Extraction of Projection Profile, Run-Histogram and Entropy Features Straight from Run-Length Compressed Text-Documents

Document Image Analysis, like any Digital Image Analysis requires identification and extraction of proper features, which are generally extracted from uncompressed images, though in reality images are made available in compressed form for the reasons such as transmission and storage efficiency. However, this implies that the compressed image should be decompressed, which indents additional computing resources. This limitation induces the motivation to research in extracting features directly from the compressed image. In this research, we propose to extract essential features such as projection profile, run-histogram and entropy for text document analysis directly from run-length compressed text-documents. The experimentation illustrates that features are extracted directly from the compressed image without going through the stage of decompression, because of which the computing time is reduced. The feature values so extracted are exactly identical to those extracted from uncompressed images.Comment: Published by IEEE in Proceedings of ACPR-2013. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1403.778

Entropy Computation of Document Images in Run-Length Compressed Domain

Compression of documents, images, audios and videos have been traditionally practiced to increase the efficiency of data storage and transfer. However, in order to process or carry out any analytical computations, decompression has become an unavoidable pre-requisite. In this research work, we have attempted to compute the entropy, which is an important document analytic directly from the compressed documents. We use Conventional Entropy Quantifier (CEQ) and Spatial Entropy Quantifiers (SEQ) for entropy computations [1]. The entropies obtained are useful in applications like establishing equivalence, word spotting and document retrieval. Experiments have been performed with all the data sets of [1], at character, word and line levels taking compressed documents in run-length compressed domain. The algorithms developed are computational and space efficient, and results obtained match 100% with the results reported in [1].Comment: Published in IEEE Proceedings 2014 Fifth International Conference on Signals and Image Processin

Time-varying transmission between oil and equities in the MENA region: New evidence from DCC-MIDAS analyses

    Get PDF
In this paper we use the DCC-MIDAS (Dynamic Conditional Correlation-Mixed Data Sampling) model to infer the association between oil and equities in five MENA countries between February 2006 and April 2017. The model indicates that higher oil returns tends to reduce the long-term risk of the Saudi market, but to increase it in other markets. The risk transfer from oil to MENA equities is found to be weak. The dynamic conditional correlation between oil and equities is not always positive and it unexpectedly changes sign during the sample period. However, the association always strengthens when there is a large draw down in oil prices as well as during periods of high volatility. Finally, we find that short term association occasionally breaks from the longer-term correlation particularly in Egypt and Turkey. These patterns of influence and associations are unique, and have important implications for equity portfolio managers who are interested in investing in energy and MENA equities

    Structural optimization using FEA tools

A structural surface prototype with varying structural properties that has been adapted to its specific loading requirements has been designed using finite element analysis tools in Grasshopper for Rhino. The goal of this project is to design a method for reducing the amount of material required to achieve an acceptable structural strength. This is done to reduce construction costs and provide the capability to form surfaces that existing construction materials are incapable of. This research involved the analysis of carbon fiber\u27s material performance using finite element methods to guide decision making regarding the prototype\u27s construction. This digital prototype shows the potential applications and formability properties using the optimization method explored. A proof of concept pedestrian bridge constructed of fiber-reinforced polymer in a non-traditional form is presented

Research into improving building energy performance has the potential to create new and innovative architectural products. Through developing green architectural technologies aimed at increasing energy efficiency architects and engineers must overcome the financial architectural and engineering challenges of their implementation. A prototype facade design was designed to respond to sunlight intensity as part of a study on similar facade schemes

DISPOSITION KINETICS AND DOSAGE REGIMEN OF TAMOXIFEN IN ADULT HEALTHY FEMALE VOLUNTEERS

Breast cancer is the second most pervasive cause of mortalities in the world and Tamoxifen is the hormone therapy of choice in pre-menopausal estrogen receptor positive breast cancer women and sometimes in post-menopausal women. The pharmgeonetics factors widely affect the pharmacokinetic parameters. Information regarding this anti breast cancer drug shows that bio disposition of Tamoxifen has not been widely studied in local healthy adult female subjects. Disposition kinectics and dosage regimen were investigated in eight healthy adult females of a specific age group 35-55 years. Blood samples were collected at various intervals after oral administration 20mg Tamoxifen tablet. Plasma concentrations were determined with HPLC. Plasma concentration versus time curve was analyzed with one compartment pharmacokinetic model to calculate the kinetic parameters such as Cmax and volume of distribution etc. The pharmacokinetic analysis revealed Cmax of 28.11 ± 2.11 ng/mL at mean Tmax of 7.7 hours. The mean ± SE volume of distribution was 306.6 ± 3.681 L/kg ,respectively while extrapolated zero time drug concentration of elimination phase 0.037 ± 0.005ng/mL. Mean ± SE rate constant for elimination phase was 0.12 ± 0.002 hr-1. Due to decrease in Cmax attained after single oral dose, it is recommended that dosing interval of Tamoxifen should be decreased as to attain steady state levels for pharmacotherapeutic results in breast cancer females. However, 5-10ng/mL change is due to the changes of environment, epigenetic and genetic variation between Pakistan and drug manufacturing foreign countries
