Evaluating Perception of Users Regarding Collection and Services: A Case Study of Kashmir Government Polytechnic College (KGPC)
The present study attempts to offer an insight about the user’s perception regarding library collection and service in Kashmir Government Polytechnic College (KGPC). The findings of the study reveal that preponderance (91.33%) prefer to use “Textbooks” as a source of information resource in the library while as usage of e-resources have been found low among them. It emerges that majority of users visit library on “Daily” basis to “Issue books” and read “Newspapers”. On the other hand, the finding reveals that majority of user’s visits library to avail “Internet Services” followed by “Lending Services”. Furthermore, it is observed from the analysis that the preponderance of users find library collection and services inadequate which might be due lack of awareness among them. Accordingly, the library must take dynamic initiatives to sensitize its users on the available information resources and services through current awareness and other related services in order to make sure the proper usage of library among its user
Buffering of Segmental and Chromosomal Aneuploidies in Drosophila melanogaster
Chromosomal instability, which involves the deletion and duplication of chromosomes or chromosome parts, is a common feature of cancers, and deficiency screens are commonly used to detect genes involved in various biological pathways. However, despite their importance, the effects of deficiencies, duplications, and chromosome losses on the regulation of whole chromosomes and large chromosome domains are largely unknown. Therefore, to explore these effects, we examined expression patterns of genes in several Drosophila deficiency hemizygotes and a duplication hemizygote using microarrays. The results indicate that genes expressed in deficiency hemizygotes are significantly buffered, and that the buffering effect is general rather than being mainly mediated by feedback regulation of individual genes. In addition, differentially expressed genes in haploid condition appear to be generally more strongly buffered than ubiquitously expressed genes in haploid condition, but, among genes present in triploid condition, ubiquitously expressed genes are generally more strongly buffered than differentially expressed genes. Furthermore, we show that the 4th chromosome is compensated in response to dose differences. Our results suggest general mechanisms have evolved that stimulate or repress gene expression of aneuploid regions as appropriate, and on the 4th chromosome of Drosophila this compensation is mediated by Painting of Fourth (POF)

Chemotherapy-induced transposable elements activate MDA5 to enhance haematopoietic regeneration.
Funder: RCUK | Medical Research Council (MRC); doi: https://doi.org/10.13039/501100000265Funder: Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (Max Planck Society); doi: https://doi.org/10.13039/501100004189Haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are normally quiescent, but have evolved mechanisms to respond to stress. Here, we evaluate haematopoietic regeneration induced by chemotherapy. We detect robust chromatin reorganization followed by increased transcription of transposable elements (TEs) during early recovery. TE transcripts bind to and activate the innate immune receptor melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 (MDA5) that generates an inflammatory response that is necessary for HSCs to exit quiescence. HSCs that lack MDA5 exhibit an impaired inflammatory response after chemotherapy and retain their quiescence, with consequent better long-term repopulation capacity. We show that the overexpression of ERV and LINE superfamily TE copies in wild-type HSCs, but not in Mda5-/- HSCs, results in their cycling. By contrast, after knockdown of LINE1 family copies, HSCs retain their quiescence. Our results show that TE transcripts act as ligands that activate MDA5 during haematopoietic regeneration, thereby enabling HSCs to mount an inflammatory response necessary for their exit from quiescence

Information Seeking Behaviour in Digital Environment : A study of Post Graduate Students at University of Kashmir
Information Seeking Behavior is a “consequence of a need perceived by an information user, who, in order to satisfy that need, makes demands upon formal or informal information sources or services, which result in success or failure to find relevant information”. The present study is an attempt to analyze the information seeking behavior of the PG students of social science faculties in University of Kashmir, Srinagar. The survey method was used as a data collection tool with the help of pre-defined questionnaire and interview was conducted during the month of November, 2019.There were 280 questionnaires distributed among PG students of social science disciplines, out of which a total of 245 duly filled questionnaires were returned back with a response rate of 87.5%.The findings revealed that application of ICT in libraries has greatly influenced the information seeking behavior of PG social science students in University of Kashmir

Web 2.0 Tools in Indian University Libraries
Web is intrinsically a global medium. Web has grown from a group work tool for scientists at CERN into a global information space more than billion users. Currently it is both as a read, write tool as well as a more social and participatory platform. The continuously changing trends have led to enter a new, improved web version 2.0.It is actually just an extension of the original ideas of the web. The web 2.0 has gained substantial momentum in the last decade. The influence of web 2.0 principles and technologies has fuelled an explosion of information and media content on the web and individual and corporate adoption of the technologies continues to rise. The present study has been carried out to identify, usage and application of different web 2.0 tools of the top 100 universities according to the “Ranking web of universities” 2020
Protest movements and democratic culture: A study of plebiscite front and agitations in J&K.
The History of mankind is full of contradictions which ultimately give rise to confrontations. The studies of various agitations launched in all the three units of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh from time to time against the government reveal the importance of the studies of such movements in understanding the reality. The protest movements in the three units of the state was an attack upon the prevailing system in an organized way. The present thesis is divided into five first Chapter deals with the theoretical aspects of the concept of public protest. The Chapter II deals with the problem on theoretical basis. The Chapter III deals with the historical perspective of the struggle of freedom. The Chapter IV is devoted to trace out genesis of plebiscite front. The Chapter V to protest and agitation politics of J & K
