Three mesoporous silica with different functional group were prepared by one-step synthesis based on the simultaneous hydrolysis and condensation of sodium silicate with organo - silane in the presence of template surfactant polydimethylsiloxane - polyethyleneoxide (PDMS - PEO). The prepared materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and nitrogen adsorption/desorption experiments. The results indicate that the preparation of methyl and phenyl functionalized silica were successful and the mass of methyl and phenyl groups bonded to the silica structure are 15, 38 mmol per gram silica. The average diameter of the silica particles are 103.51, 167.25 , and 86.41 nm while the average pore diameter are 6.7, 16.4, and 2.7 nm for unfunctionalized, methyl, and phenyl functionalized silica respectively

In present work experimental studies have been carried out on three types of crystalline zeolites were prepared and used as supports for platinum catalysts. All were synthesized in the laboratory (ZSM-5, -11, and –23) with SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of 37, 86 and 94 respectively. N-Pentane is used as a feedstock for the process. The isomerization and cracking reaction were investigated to characterize the catalysts performance toward higher activity and selectivity to desired products. The performance of catalysts was studied under the following operating condition:liquid hour space velocity in the range of (1-2 hr-1), reaction temperature in the range of (310-350 °C). The results showed that the prepared catalysts exhibit different activities toward n-Pentane isomerization and hydrocracking. These catalysts have high activity toward isomerization at low temperature while at high temperature the yield toward hydrocracking is increased. Also hydroconversion of n-Pentane decreases with increasing of liquid hour space velocity

The aim of this study was to prepare novel supramolecular hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) that can selectively separate and recover scandium metal ions, Sc(III), from an aqueous phase based on molecular recognition technology (MRT). Moreover, this approach is fully compatible with green chemistry principles. In this work, natural amorphous silica (SiO2) nanoparticles were prepared by a precipitation method from Iraqi rice husk (RH) followed by surface modification with 3-amino-propyl triethoxysilane (APTES) as coupling agent and Kryptofix 2.2.2 (K2.2.2) as polycyclic ligand. To evaluate the potential of the hybrid nanoparticles, the prepared HNPs were used for the solid–liquid extraction of scandium, Sc(III), ions from model solutions due to the fact that K2.2.2 are polycyclic molecules. These polycyclic molecules are able to encapsulate cations according to the corresponding cavity size with the ionic radius of metal by providing a higher protection due their cage-like structures. Moreover, the authors set the objectives to design a high-technology process using these HNPs and to develop a Sc recovery method from the aqueous model solution prior to employing it in industrial applications, e.g., for Sc recovery from red mud leachate. The concentrations of Sc model solutions were investigated using the UV-Vis spectrophotometer technique. Different characterization techniques were used including scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The extraction efficiency of Sc varied from 81.3% to 96.7%. Moreover, the complexed Sc ions were efficiently recovered by HCl with 0.1 mol/L concentration. The stripping ratios of Sc obtained ranged from 93.1% to 97.8%
