Geography of Leisure Among the Young ā How to Choose Your Favourite Shopping Centre
sigurnosti i kontrole.
Free time or leisure activities are usually perceived as a topic of tourism geography. However, all the economic activities that occur during a regular visit to a shopping centre, as one of the most popular places for spending free time, draw it into the scope of retail and, thereby, economic geography as well. Sociologists claim that shopping centres have replaced parks and free time activities. Parents largely welcome this trend, because shopping centres offer some kind of safe and controlled environment.
Wandering around shopping centres is becoming more and more popular among young Croatians as well. So far, in foreign literature, different models and frameworks for understanding the mall experience have been put forward. This paper presents factors relevant for young peoplein making their choice. Finally, a framework or a model for choosing a favourite shopping centre is offered. With the trend of extensive opening of shopping centre, this model could become useful to shopping centre managements in development of shopping centres and their fight for customers
Business Functions and Problem of Closure of Commercial Premises in Ilica Street in Zagreb
Over the past 15 years vast changes have occurred in the functions of certain areas of a city. Decentralization of retail and the process of transition have resulted in the changes of functions of certain parts of the city. Trend of opening of new domestic and foreign shopping centres, hypermarkets and other types of retail outlets have caused a relative decline of the number of retail outlets in city centre. First part of the paper gives a research of changes in business functions of Ilica street with an analysis of level of satisfaction with the location, infrastructure and cooperation with the neighbouring establishments. Second part of the paper deals with the problem of closure of business premises in the city centre
Promjene nekih karakteristika sumporne termalne vode zbog kloriranja
Positive and negative effects of water chlorination and aeration were examined in samples of sulphuric thermal water from rehabilitation pools. Although chlorination considerably improved the microbiological quality of the water, it caused various negative physical and chemical changes. Aeration caused loss ot hydrogen sulphide and production of colloidal sulphur (milky turbidity), whereas chlorination developed a yellowish-reddish-brown colouring depending on chlorine dosage, and also provoked the disappearance of sulphides. It is concluded that sulphuric thermal water should not be chlorinated because of elimination, through chlorination, of therapeutically active compounds causing organoleptic changes that are subject to complaints from patients.
The bicycle renaissance or the sudden return of bicycles and cycling to the
public space has been a characteristic of Western societies for several decades. In
the last thirty or so years, bicycle traffic has become a sort of paradigm of spatial
and urban planning. This paper detects the physical, social, and contextual
elements influencing the choice (or lack thereof) of a bicycle as a means of
transportation among the high-schoolers in the city of Äakovo.BiciklistiÄka renesansa ili nagli povratak bicikla i biciklizma u javni prostor

Problem zbrinjavanja otpada: primjer lokacije Tarno u ZagrebaÄkoj županiji
Considering the growing problem of waste disposal, this paper analyses
the spatial distribution, legal and sociological framework, and relevant environmental
components of existing waste landfills in Zagreb County (geological, hydrogeological
and geomorphological features of the locations, climate). In addition to potential
ecological and health consequences, waste disposal often has complex social and
economic consequences for the surrounding locations. Therefore, these environmental
aspects were also used to analyse the justification of decision to select the location
Tarno as a potential county waste management centre. This is an interesting case
since it aroused negative reactions from political structures and the local population
of the nearby Town of IvaniÄ Grad. In addition to the environmental parameters, the
topographic exposure index of the wider area was determined. This is based on the
characteristics of the wind rose in order to identify areas of maximum exposure to
the negative impact of odour due to the prevailing air currents. Special attention was
paid to the buffer zone up to 3000 m from the location of potential landfill sites. Considering
the strong resistance towards the selection of this location for a county waste
management centre, the attitudes of local residents, their level of knowledge and their
awareness of the issue were also examined. The existence of the NIMBY syndrome
and YIAMBY was also tested.S obzirom na sve veÄi problem zbrinjavanja otpada analizirana je prostorna distribucija, zakonski
ZagrebaÄke županije (geoloÅ”ka podloga, hidrogeoloÅ”ke i geomorfoloÅ”ke znaÄajke terena,
klima).
negativne reakcije politiÄkih struktura i lokalnog stanovniÅ”tva IvaniÄ Grada.

Tourism of Krapinske Toplice Spa - present position and possibilities of Its development
This paper presents present state of development of tourism in Krapinske Toplice Spa and possibilities of further development from the geographical point of view. Natural, socio-economical, cultural and historical components of the area are analysed. Special attention is given to development of health tourism and its impact on the development of other types of tourism. Paper explains the main reason of slower tourist development of Krapinske Toplice in comparison to other spas in the region
The impact of transportation connectivity on academic achievement of secondary school pupils: a case study of the Donji Miholjac Secondary School, Croatia
This study provides an overview of the influence of transportation connectivity as the sole predictor of academic success, using the example of pupils of the Donji Miholjac Secondary School who travel longer distances to school. The study was conducted in April 2016 using the methods of surveying, travel diaries, and pupil interviews. The survey results were compared with information on pupilsā academic success for the academic year of 2015/16. The study showed that there was a difference between the success of resident pupils and travelling pupils, in which the effects of other factors were not marginalised. The main issue pertaining to transport and academic success was a lack of alignment between bus schedules and the schoolās timetable, meaning that travelling pupils are required to spend long amounts of time in transport, which resident pupils are not subjected to, and poorly-planned public transportation routes, in terms of the needs of the travelling pupil, which extended travel time. Though exact data showed differences in academic success, the travelling pupils did not perceive that their daily travels had a significant impact on their academic success
