W artykule om贸wione zostan膮 parametry fizykochemiczne biomasy drzewnej, biomasy z upraw energetycznych oraz odpad贸w i pozosta艂o艣ci z produkcji rolnej (tzw. biomasy "agro" ).Biomass is a technologically difficult fuel due to its physical and chemical properties, significantly different from coal combusted in power plant boilers. At the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal research, concerning determination of different properties of biomass used in power industry, has been carried out since many years.     Polski rynek biomasy pochodz膮cej z upraw energetycznych i odpad贸w z produkcji rolnej jest niestabilny i uzale偶niony od wielko艣ci rolniczych powierzchni produkcyjnych i plon贸w biomasy. Import 艂upin palmy olejowca gwinejskiego (PKS), mo偶e by膰 dodatkowym 藕r贸d艂em pozyskiwania biomasy do cel贸w energetycznych. Tym materia艂em palnym interesuj膮 si臋 producenci energii i ciep艂a na ca艂ym 艣wiecie. W artykule podj臋to pr贸b臋 klasyfikacji PKS, jako biomasy stosowanej do cel贸w energetycznych. Przedstawiono wyniki analiz w艂a艣ciwo艣ci energetycznych, chemicznych oraz zawarto艣ci frakcji biodegradowalnej badanych w IChPW pr贸bek PKS, na tle w艂a艣ciwo艣ci innych rodzaj贸w biomasy pochodzenia rolnego.The Polish market of biomass from energy crops and agricultural waste is unstable and strongly dependent on the area of agricultural production land and biomass crops. Import of Palm Kernel Shell may be an additional source of obtaining biomass for energy purposes. Energy and heat manufacturers from all over the world are interested in that combustible material. This paper described an attempt to classify PKS as biomass used for energy purposes. Results from analysing energy characteristics, chemical properties and content biodegradable fraction content in PKS samples tested in IChPW samples of PKS were presented in comparison to characteristics of other types of biomass of agricultural origin

    Sewage sludge as a renewable energy carrier and CO2 zero emission biomass in CO-combustion with coal

    Sewage sludge management in Poland is a major environmental problem. The preferred solution to this problem may be co-combustion of sludge with coal in existing power plants. The paper presents the current legal basis and the benefits associated with the recognition of sewage sludge as renewable energy carrier and biomass with zero CO2 emission factor in the processes of coal cocombustion. Energy parameters of sewage sludge resulting from its organic fraction, which is mostly biodegradable material, have been characterized. The results of investigation of the biodegradable fraction content in sewage sludge by the method of selective dissolution have also been presented
