Cache-based Query Processing for the Boolean Retrieval Model

    Get PDF
We propose a new method of processing general Boolean queries utilizing previous query results stored in a result cache in a mediator architecture. A simple but noble normalization form is developed to describe keyword-based Boolean queries and the content of the result cache. We propose Boolean query processing algorithms based on this form of presentation that utilizes the result cache. We show that the proposed method theoretically guarantees improved performance over the conventional query processing method without using a cache

Two-gap and paramagnetic pair-breaking effects on upper critical field of SmFeAsO0.85_{0.85} and SmFeAsO0.8_{0.8}F0.2_{0.2} single crystals

We investigated the temperature dependence of the upper critical field [Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T)] of fluorine-free SmFeAsO0.85_{0.85} and fluorine-doped SmFeAsO0.8_{0.8}F0.2_{0.2} single crystals by measuring the resistive transition in low static magnetic fields and in pulsed fields up to 60 T. Both crystals show that Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T)'s along the c axis [Hc2c(T)H_{c2}^c(T)] and in an abab-planar direction [Hc2ab(T)H_{c2}^{ab}(T)] exhibit a linear and a sublinear increase, respectively, with decreasing temperature below the superconducting transition. Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T)'s in both directions deviate from the conventional one-gap Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg theoretical prediction at low temperatures. A two-gap nature and the paramagnetic pair-breaking effect are shown to be responsible for the temperature-dependent behavior of Hc2cH_{c2}^c and Hc2abH_{c2}^{ab}, respectively.Comment: 21 pages, 8 figure

Roles of dark energy perturbations in the dynamical dark energy models: Can we ignore them?

We show the importance of properly including the perturbations of the dark energy component in the dynamical dark energy models based on a scalar field and modified gravity theories in order to meet with present and future observational precisions. Based on a simple scaling scalar field dark energy model, we show that observationally distinguishable substantial differences appear by ignoring the dark energy perturbation. By ignoring it the perturbed system of equations becomes inconsistent and deviations in (gauge-invariant) power spectra depend on the gauge choice.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Fabrication of flexible UV nanoimprint mold with fluorinated polymer-coated PET film

    Get PDF
UV curing nanoimprint lithography is one of the most promising techniques for the fabrication of micro- to nano-sized patterns on various substrates with high throughput and a low production cost. The UV nanoimprint process requires a transparent template with micro- to nano-sized surface protrusions, having a low surface energy and good flexibility. Therefore, the development of low-cost, transparent, and flexible templates is essential. In this study, a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film coated with a fluorinated polymer material was used as an imprinting mold. Micro- and nano-sized surface protrusion patterns were formed on the fluorinated polymer layer by the hot embossing process from a Si master template. Then, the replicated pattern of the fluorinated polymer, coated on the flexible PET film, was used as a template for the UV nanoimprint process without any anti-stiction coating process. In this way, the micro- to nano-sized patterns of the original master Si template were replicated on various substrates, including a flat Si substrate and curved acryl substrate, with high fidelity using UV nanoimprint lithography

Association between prostate-specific antigen and serum testosterone:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background Serum testosterone assays are an important tool in the clinical evaluation of a number of endocrine disorders including male hypogonadism. However, serum testosterone has a limited role in real clinical use due to its inaccuracy. We aimed to assess the association between prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and testosterone as well as the effects of various types of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for PSA level. Methods Two electronic databases were screened: PubMed (1966 through December 2018) and Cochrane Library (1993 through December 2018). The first strategy compared the overall increase in PSA following testosterone treatment compared with placebo. The second strategy analyzed the overall association between PSA and testosterone among the observational studies. Results In the first strategy, 22 articles were included in the final analysis. In the second strategy, 18 studies were included. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) showed a significant change in PSA level compared to that in the placebo group (mean difference [MD]: 0.13, 95% CI: 0.01-0.25, P = .04). Compared to placebo, only intramuscular (IM) TRT shows a significant change in PSA level group (MD: 0.16, 95% CI: 0.01-0.30, P = .04), as neither the oral nor topical type showed a significant change in PSA. In the second strategy analysis, there was no overall correlation found between PSA and testosterone (z = 0.04, 95% CI: -0.04 to 0.12, P = .04; r = 0.039). However, in the subgroup of non-BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia), a significant correlation between PSA and testosterone (z = 0.07, 95% CI: 0.01-0.13, P = .009; r = 0.089) was found. Conclusions We found that TRT, particularly IM TRT, significantly changed the PSA level compared with the placebo group. Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between PSA and testosterone in patients with non-BPH. According to these findings, we suggest the possibility of PSA as a surrogate marker of testosterone

Robust Adaptive Depth Control of Hybrid Underwater Glider in Vertical Plane

    Get PDF
Hybrid underwater glider (HUG) is an advanced autonomous underwater vehicle with propellers capable of sustainable operations for many months. Under the underwater disturbances and parameter uncertainties, it is difficult that the HUG coordinates with the desired depth in a robust manner. In this study, a robust adaptive control algorithm for the HUG is proposed. In the descend and ascend periods, the pitch control is designed using backstepping technique and direct adaptive control. When the vehicle approaches the target depth, the surge speed control using adaptive control combined with the pitch control is used to keep the vehicle at the desired depth with a constant cruising speed in the presence of the disturbances. The stability of the proposed controller is verified by using the Lyapunov theorem. Finally, the computer simulation using the numerical method is conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller for a hybrid underwater glider system
