HEALTH CONDITION IN AND SURROUNDING CONSTRUCTION
The health and environmental sacrifices are some of the biggest problems with
construction and developing a world that better suits our needs and luxurious living
standards. It is however unavoidable in most cases as we need to use toxic
chemicals and materials like cement to make it possible for us to move forward and
have sustainable growth in the industry. In general, construction is a very risky
business and more so a risk to the health of humans. Construction does not only
affect people working on a construction site, but also the public in general.
According to Earle (2012), Construction can have a major impact on the
environment, which can in turn have a drastic influence on the people living in the
surrounding areas. Construction also influences the health of people globally since
the carbon footprint of construction has a negative influence on the planet.
The purpose of the research and surveys are to determine the severity of the effects
that construction has on human health and the impact and effectiveness of methods
that are being used to limit these effects. Construction impacts human health on
different levels, which are: Site/construction workers; Social Impact; EnvironmentalThesis (BSc. Hons QS) (Construction Economics))--University of Pretoria, 201
Design and construction risks for a shipping port and container terminal : case study
This paper presents the risk identification process, a checklist of 215 different risks, and an associated risk breakdown structure (RBS) for the design and construction phases for a shipping port and associated container terminal. The case study project scope for the research includes a 3,500-m breakwater, 80 ha of reclaimed land, a 1,000-m-long quay wall, port equipment, and buildings. The checklist is categorized according to the project work breakdown structure (WBS) and includes risks associated with (1) breakwater, (2) reclaimed land, (3) entrance canal and basin, (4) quay wall, (5) container yard and buildings, (6) power supply, and (7) project management office. Since the research outcome was developed by subject matter experts during an actual project, it can be used during risk identification, as a completeness check after risk identification on similar projects, or for individual activities (e.g., quay wall construction) per the required project scope. The research also includes a list of risks that specifically relate to marine construction.https://ascelibrary.org/journal/jwped5hj2020Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM
The occurrence of Schistosoma mattheei in the south-western Transvaal
To determine whether Schistosoma mattheei is present in the south-western Transvaal, sixty habitats were
searched for the intermediate host snail, Bulinus africanus. Ten populations of this snail were located, 2 of
which were infected with S. mattheei. Eggs of one of these isolates, originating from a spring in the Mooi River,
were examined with an optical microscope. Scanning electron micrographs of the teguments of adult male
worms and the terebratorial membranes of miracidia are described. These parasites are morphologically similar
to some previously described from another habitat in the same geographical area and both populations can be
regarded as typical S. mattheei. The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

The tegument of Schistosoma hippopotami from Hippopotamus amphibius in the Kruger National Park
Schistosoma hippopotami were collected from the right heart chambers and pulmonary arteries of Hippopotamus
amphibius culled in the Kruger National Park. The schistosomes were subjected to scanning electron
microscopy as well as optical microscopy. The results indicate that S. hippopotami is not conspecific to S.
mansoni as suggested in the literature. On account of the morphology of certain tegumental structures of both
male and female parasites, it is suggested that S. hippopotami is adapted to the pulmonary arterial circulation of
its host. The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

Notes on the occurrence of tubercular spines in Schistosoma margrebowiei and Schistosoma mattheei
Scanning electron microscopical (SEM) studies on tegument of the bovid schistosomes, Schistosoma margrebowiei and Schistosoma mattheei have yielded conflicting results; certain authors observed the tubercles on the tegument of these species to be spined, while others reported that they are spineless. The present study indicates that the protrusion of tubercular spines is subject to phenotypic plasticity regulated by external factors such as the identiy of the host species and whether or not the schistosome is paired. The articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.
