    Conditional Demand System for Beverages

    Get PDF
Estimates of a conditional demand system for twelve beverages, based on the Rotterdam model subject to a full, first-order autoregressive process, are discussed. Impacts of beverage prices, total beverage expenditures and promotions on beverage quantities demanded are provided. The results indicate that all beverages were normal goods; the majority had price elastic demands; most had a relatively large own-promotion effect; and a number of significant cross-promotional effects exist, indicating a relatively high level of competition for market share among the beverages studied.conditional demand system, beverages, Agribusiness,

Do Consumers Really Use Food Labels?

    Get PDF
Ordered Probit models are used to estimate the probabilities of consumers reading food labels for harmful ingredients and for using labels to assist with food purchasing decisions. Demographics, health concerns, attitudes, and eating habits are shown to influence the likelihood of using food labels. Effects from over 25 variables are ranked in terms of their relative impacts on the use of food labels. Dieting, concerns about calories, foreign foods, and many other variable effects on the use of food labels are shown.Consumer/Household Economics,

q-Moments remove the degeneracy associated with the inversion of the q-Fourier transform

It was recently proven [Hilhorst, JSTAT, P10023 (2010)] that the q-generalization of the Fourier transform is not invertible in the full space of probability density functions for q > 1. It has also been recently shown that this complication disappears if we dispose of the q-Fourier transform not only of the function itself, but also of all of its shifts [Jauregui and Tsallis, Phys. Lett. A 375, 2085 (2011)]. Here we show that another road exists for completely removing the degeneracy associated with the inversion of the q-Fourier transform of a given probability density function. Indeed, it is possible to determine this density if we dispose of some extra information related to its q-moments.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figure

Production and Price Effects of New Diseases and Other Challenges Confronting the Processed Orange Industry

Sao Paulo and Florida are the primary producers of orange juice. Both regions face production challenges. In this paper, a model of the world orange juice market is used to analyze the effect of citrus greening and high sugarcane prices on the production and price of orange juice.Crop Production/Industries, Demand and Price Analysis, Production Economics,
