Infection prevention in dentistry is an important topic that has gained more interest in recent years and guidelines for the prevention of cross-transmission are common practice in many countries. However, little is known about the real risks of cross-transmission, specifically in the dental healthcare setting. This paper evaluated the literature to determine the risk of cross-transmission and infection of viruses and bacteria that are of particular relevance in the dental practice environment. Facts from the literature on HSV, VZV, HIV, Hepatitis B, C and D viruses, Mycobacterium spp., Pseudomonas spp., Legionella spp. and multi-resistant bacteria are presented. There is evidence that Hepatitis B virus is a real threat for cross-infection in dentistry. Data for the transmission of, and infection with, other viruses or bacteria in dental practice are scarce. However, a number of cases are probably not acknowledged by patients, healthcare workers and authorities. Furthermore, cross-transmission in dentistry is under-reported in the literature. For the above reasons, the real risks of cross-transmission are likely to be higher. There is therefore a need for prospective longitudinal research in this area, to determine the real risks of cross-infection in dentistry. This will assist the adoption of effective hygiene procedures in dental practice

User-Defined Body Gestures for an Interactive Storytelling Scenario

    No full text
Abstract. For improving full body interaction in an interactive storytelling scenario, we conducted a study to get a user-defined gesture set. 22 users performed 251 gestures while running through the story script with real interaction disabled, but with hints of what set of actions was currently requested by the application. We describe our interaction design process, starting with the conduction of the study, continuing with the analysis of the recorded data including the creation of gesture taxonomy and the selection of gesture candidates, and ending with the integration of the gestures in our application

Traveller: An Interactive Cultural Training System controlled by User-Defined Body Gestures

Abstract. In this paper, we describe a cultural training system based on an interactive storytelling approach and a culturally-adaptive agent architecture, for which a user-defined gesture set was created. 251 full body gestures by 22 users were analyzed to find intuitive gestures for the in-game actions in our system. After the analysis we integrated the gestures in our application using our framework for full body gesture recognition. We further integrated a second interaction type which applies a graphical interface controlled with freehand swiping gestures

KINterestTV - Towards Non–invasive Measure of User Interest While Watching TV

Part 2: Key ApplicationsInternational audienceIs it possible to determine only by observing the behavior of a user what are his interests for a media? The aim of this project is to develop an application that can detect whether or not a user is viewing a content on the TV and use this information to build the user profile and to make it evolve dynamically. Our approach is based on the use of a 3D sensor to study the movements of a user’s head to make an implicit analysis of his behavior. This behavior is synchronized with the TV content (media fragments) and other user interactions (clicks, gestural interaction) to further infer viewer’s interest. Our approach is tested during an experiment simulating the attention changes of a user in a scenario involving second screen (tablet) interaction, a behavior that has become common for spectators and a typical source of attention switches
