The electromagnetic vertex of neutrinos in an electron background and a magnetic field
We study the electromagnetic vertex function of a neutrino that propagates in
an electron background in the presence of a static magnetic field. The
structure of the vertex function under the stated conditions is determined and
it is written down in terms of a minimal and complete set of tensors. The
one-loop expressions for all the form factors is given, up to terms that are
linear in the magnetic field, and the approximate integral formulas that hold
in the long wavelength limit are obtained. We discuss the physical
interpretation of some of the form factors and their relation with the concept
of the neutrino induced charge. The neutrino acquires a longitudinal and a
transverse charge, due to the fact that the form factors depend on the
transverse and longitudinal components of the photon momentum independently. We
compute those form factors explicitly in various limiting cases and find that
the longitudinal and transverse charge are the same for the case of a
non-relativistic electron gas, but not otherwise.Comment: 18 pages. Revtex4, axodra
Finite Temperature Wave-Function Renormalization, A Comparative Analysis
We compare two competing theories regarding finite temperature wave-function
corrections for the process and for and
related processes of interest for primordial nucleosynthesis. Although the two
methods are distinct (as shown in ) they yield the same finite
temperature correction for all and processes. Both methods
yield an increase in the He/H ratio of .01% due to finite temperature
renormalization rather than a decrease of .16% as previously predicted.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures. LaTe
Plasma wave instabilities induced by neutrinos
Quantum field theory is applied to study the interaction of an electron
plasma with an intense neutrino flux. A connection is established between the
field theory results and classical kinetic theory. The dispersion relation and
damping rate of the plasma longitudinal waves are derived in the presence of
neutrinos. It is shown that Supernova neutrinos are never collimated enough to
cause non-linear effects associated with a neutrino resonance. They only induce
neutrino Landau damping, linearly proportional to the neutrino flux and

Wave Function Renormalization at Finite Temperature
We present a derivation of the medium dependent wave function renormalization
for a spinor field in presence of a thermal bath. We show that, as already
pointed out in literature, projector operators are not multiplicatively
renormalized and the effect involves a non trivial spinor dependence, which
disappears in the zero temperature covariant limit. The results, which differ
from what already found in literature, are then applied to the decay of a
massive scalar boson into two fermions and to the --decay and crossed
related processes relevant for primordial nucleosynthesis.Comment: 11 pages, RevTe
The Uncertainty in Newton's Constant and Precision Predictions of the Primordial Helium Abundance
The current uncertainty in Newton's constant, G_N, is of the order of 0.15%.
For values of the baryon to photon ratio consistent with both cosmic microwave
background observations and the primordial deuterium abundance, this
uncertainty in G_N corresponds to an uncertainty in the primordial 4He mass
fraction, Y_P, of +-1.3 x 10^{-4}. This uncertainty in Y_P is comparable to the
effect from the current uncertainty in the neutron lifetime, which is often
treated as the dominant uncertainty in calculations of Y_P. Recent measurements
of G_N seem to be converging within a smaller range; a reduction in the
estimated error on G_N by a factor of 10 would essentially eliminate it as a
source of uncertainty in the calculation of the primordial 4He abundance.Comment: 3 pages, no figures, fixed typos, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Deceleration and trapping of heavy diatomic molecules using a ring-decelerator
We present an analysis of the deceleration and trapping of heavy diatomic
molecules in low-field seeking states by a moving electric potential. This
moving potential is created by a 'ring-decelerator', which consists of a series
of ring-shaped electrodes to which oscillating high voltages are applied.
Particle trajectory simulations have been used to analyze the deceleration and
trapping efficiency for a group of molecules that is of special interest for
precision measurements of fundamental discrete symmetries. For the typical case
of the SrF molecule in the (N,M) = (2, 0) state, the ring-decelerator is shown
to outperform traditional and alternate-gradient Stark decelerators by at least
an order of magnitude. If further cooled by a stage of laser cooling, the
decelerated molecules allow for a sensitivity gain in a parity violation
measurement, compared to a cryogenic molecular beam experiment, of almost two
orders of magnitude
Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar
collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run
of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8
TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining
particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet.
The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence
implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative
calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to Physics Letters
Search for Higgs bosons decaying to tautau pairs in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We present a search for the production of neutral Higgs bosons decaying into
tautau pairs in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The
data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1, were collected by
the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits at the
95% C.L. on the product of production cross section and branching ratio for a
scalar resonance decaying into tautau pairs, and we then interpret these limits
as limits on the production of Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric
standard model (MSSM) and as constraints in the MSSM parameter space.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, submitted to PL
Measurement of the photon-jet production differential cross section in collisions at \sqrt{s}=1.96~\TeV
We present measurements of the differential cross section dsigma/dpT_gamma
for the inclusive production of a photon in association with a b-quark jet for
photons with rapidities |y_gamma|< 1.0 and 30<pT_gamma <300 GeV, as well as for
photons with 1.5<|y_gamma|< 2.5 and 30< pT_gamma <200 GeV, where pT_gamma is
the photon transverse momentum. The b-quark jets are required to have pT>15 GeV
and rapidity |y_jet| < 1.5. The results are based on data corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb^-1, recorded with the D0 detector at the
Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The measured cross
sections are compared with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations
using different sets of parton distribution functions as well as to predictions
based on the kT-factorization QCD approach, and those from the Sherpa and
Pythia Monte Carlo event generators.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Phys. Lett.
Limits on anomalous trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW, WZ and Wgamma production in pp-bar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present final searches of the anomalous gammaWW and ZWW trilinear gauge
boson couplings from WW and WZ production using lepton plus dijet final states
and a combination with results from Wgamma, WW, and WZ production with leptonic
final states. The analyzed data correspond to up to 8.6/fb of integrated
luminosity collected by the D0 detector in pp-bar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96
TeV. We set the most stringent limits at a hadron collider to date assuming two
different relations between the anomalous coupling parameters
Delta\kappa_\gamma, lambda, and Delta g_1^Z for a cutoff energy scale Lambda=2
TeV. The combined 68% C.L. limits are -0.057<Delta\kappa_\gamma<0.154,
-0.015<lambda<0.028, and -0.008<Delta g_1^Z<0.054 for the LEP parameterization,
and -0.007<Delta\kappa<0.081 and -0.017<lambda<0.028 for the equal couplings
parameterization. We also present the most stringent limits of the W boson
magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to PL
