Broadband noise decoherence in solid-state complex architectures
Broadband noise represents a severe limitation towards the implementation of
a solid-state quantum information processor. Considering common spectral forms,
we propose a classification of noise sources based on the effects produced
instead of on their microscopic origin. We illustrate a multi-stage approach to
broadband noise which systematically includes only the relevant information on
the environment, out of the huge parametrization needed for a microscopic
description. We apply this technique to a solid-state two-qubit gate in a fixed
coupling implementation scheme.Comment: Proceedings of Nobel Symposium 141: Qubits for Future Quantum

Exact solution for the dynamical decoupling of a qubit with telegraph noise
We study the dissipative dynamics of a qubit that is afflicted by classical
random telegraph noise and it is subject to dynamical decoupling. We derive
exact formulas for the qubit dynamics at arbitrary working points in the limit
of infinitely strong control pulses (bang-bang control) and we investigate in
great detail the efficiency of the dynamical decoupling techniques both for
Gaussian and non-Gaussian (slow) noise at qubit pure dephasing and at optimal
point. We demonstrate that control sequences can be successfully implemented as
diagnostic tools to infer spectral proprieties of a few fluctuators interacting
with the qubit. The analysis is extended in order to include the effect of
noise in the pulses and we give upper bounds on the noise levels that can be
tolerated in the pulses while still achieving efficient dynamical decoupling

A series of 55 patients with Duchenne Progressive Muscular Dystrofy is reviewed.
A total of 22 cases were operated on by Aquiles tenoplasty. These patients were encouraged
to get standing position 24 hours after operation. Within the first week after operation
patients could walk with ortesis. Mean follow-up was 20 mounths. The therapeutic protocol
used has notably improved Ufe quality of these children, postponius the presence of cardiorrespiratory
and escoliotic secondary complications
Effects of low-frequency noise cross-correlations in coupled superconducting qubits
We study the effects of correlated low frequency noise sources acting on a
two qubit gate in a fixed coupling scheme. A phenomenological model for the
spatial and cross-talk correlations is introduced. The decoherence inside the
SWAP subspace is analysed by combining analytic results based on the adiabatic
approximation and numerical simulations. Results critically depend on amplitude
of the low frequency noise with respect to the qubits coupling strength.
Correlations between noise sources induce qualitative different behaviors
depending on the values of the above parameters. The possibility to reduce
dephasing due to correlated low frequency noise by a recalibration protocol is
discussed.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure
The sacrificial function of culture: 'denaturing similarities'. Lévi-Strauss reconsidered from an anthropology of violence
This paper aims to present and critically analyze how the structural anthropology of Levi-Strauss and, in particular, the role assigned to the prohibition of incest as an articulating mechanism between the natural and the social, understands the primary function of any cultural system. Despite the assertive approach with which we explore the Lévi-Strauss “culturalist” strategy, the development will be organized and oriented from the critical turnabout that René Girard has tried to impose on the structuralist legacy. In this way, according to new findings of the “sacrificial” theory of primitive religion, will seek to clarify and restore for social theory the problem of community control of violence as a instituting background of social order.Grupo de Investigación Antropología y Filosofía (SEJ-126). Circadian and Metabolic Effects of Light: Implications in Weight Homeostasis and Health
Daily interactions between the hypothalamic circadian clock at the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and peripheral circadian oscillators regulate physiology and metabolism to set temporal variations in homeostatic regulation. Phase coherence of these circadian oscillators is achieved by the entrainment of the SCN to the environmental 24-h light:dark (LD) cycle, coupled through downstream neural, neuroendocrine, and autonomic outputs. The SCN coordinate activity and feeding rhythms, thus setting the timing of food intake, energy expenditure, thermogenesis, and active and basal metabolism. In this work, we will discuss evidences exploring the impact of different photic entrainment conditions on energy metabolism. The steady-state interaction between the LD cycle and the SCN is essential for health and wellbeing, as its chronic misalignment disrupts the circadian organization at different levels. For instance, in nocturnal rodents, non-24 h protocols (i.e., LD cycles of different durations, or chronic jet-lag simulations) might generate forced desynchronization of oscillators from the behavioral to the metabolic level. Even seemingly subtle photic manipulations, as the exposure to a "dim light" scotophase, might lead to similar alterations. The daily amount of light integrated by the clock (i.e., the photophase duration) strongly regulates energy metabolism in photoperiodic species. Removing LD cycles under either constant light or darkness, which are routine protocols in chronobiology, can also affect metabolism, and the same happens with disrupted LD cycles (like shiftwork of jetlag) and artificial light at night in humans. A profound knowledge of the photic and metabolic inputs to the clock, as well as its endocrine and autonomic outputs to peripheral oscillators driving energy metabolism, will help us to understand and alleviate circadian health alterations including cardiometabolic diseases, diabetes, and obesity.Fil: Plano, Santiago Andrés. Las estructuras del mundo de la vida moderno frente a la globalización. Una lectura desde las sociologías de J. Habermas y A. Giddens
In this article we will discuss reconstructively and articulately, the way in which the sociologies of JürgenHabermas and Anthony Giddens conceptualize theimpact that above modern lifestyles are causing currentprocesses of globalization. More precisely, itcomes to understanding the formation of global societyas a radicalization of modern rationalization process, and, from this perspective, analyze how the operation–now global- of functional systems enable new forms ofinteraction and presents new challenges to the types ofsocial integration that have reached modern societies.; En este artículo expondremos reconstructivamente, y de forma articulada, el modo en el que las sociologías de Jürgen Habermas y Anthony Giddens conceptualizan las consecuencias que sobre las formas de vida modernas están provocando los actuales procesos de globalización.
