The Complex of Solutions of the Nested Bethe Ansatz. The A_2 Spin Chain
The full set of polynomial solutions of the nested Bethe Ansatz is
constructed for the case of A_2 rational spin chain. The structure and
properties of these associated solutions are more various then in the case of
usual XXX (A_1) spin chain but their role is similar
Coupled backward- and forward-propagating solitons in a composite right/left-handed transmission line
We study the coupling between backward- and forward-propagating wave modes,
with the same group velocity, in a composite right/left-handed nonlinear
transmission line. Using an asymptotic multiscale expansion technique, we
derive a system of two coupled nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equations governing
the evolution of the envelopes of these modes. We show that this system
supports a variety of backward- and forward propagating vector solitons, of the
bright-bright, bright-dark and dark-bright type. Performing systematic
numerical simulations in the framework of the original lattice that models the
transmission line, we study the propagation properties of the derived vector
soliton solutions. We show that all types of the predicted solitons exist, but
differ on their robustness: only bright-bright solitons propagate undistorted
for long times, while the other types are less robust, featuring shorter
lifetimes. In all cases, our analytical predictions are in a very good
agreement with the results of the simulations, at least up to times of the
order of the solitons' lifetimes
Non-classical symmetries and the singular manifold method: A further two examples
This paper discusses two equations with the conditional Painleve property.
The usefulness of the singular manifold method as a tool for determining the
non-classical symmetries that reduce the equations to ordinary differential
equations with the Painleve property is confirmed once moreComment: 9 pages (latex), to appear in Journal of Physics
Adult Emergence in Two Univoltine \u3ci\u3eCallosamia Promethea\u3c/i\u3e Populations: Preponderance of the Early Emerging Morph in the North and of the Late Emerging Morph in the South (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae)
Callosamia promethea is common on wild black cherry, Prunus serafina, at the University of Michigan Biological Station in northern lower Michigan. In this area the early emerging morph is preponderant, while to the south in northern Indiana, the late emerging morph is preponderant
Diapause and Emergence Patterns in Univoltine and Bivol Tine Populations of Promethea (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae)
Data are presented on the diapause and the seasonal emergence patterns of the adults of a univoltine Callosamia promethea population from northern Indiana and a partially bivoltine population from central Illinois. At Urbana, Illinois, the median emergence date of adults from overwintering Illinois pupae was about a month earlier than that of adults from overwintering Indiana pupae. Illinois samples had a much longer emergence period than Indiana samples. Indiana samples showed a slight tendency toward a bimodal emergence pattern, a few individuals emerging in late May and the rest emerging as a tightly synchronized group from late June to mid-July. Early emerging lIIinois moths produced mostly non.diapausing progeny, but the proportion of diapausing progeny increased as the season progressed. Some females produced both diapausing and non· diapausing progeny. Adults from non-diapausing pupae from early August to early September
Spin Alignment of Heavy Meson Revisited
Using heavy quark effective theory a factorized form for inclusive production
rate of a heavy meson can be obtained, in which the nonperturbative effect
related to the heavy meson can be characterized by matrix elements defined in
the heavy quark effective theory. Using this factorization, predictions for the
full spin density matrix of a spin-1 and spin-2 meson can be obtained and they
are characterized only by one coefficient representing the nonperturbative
effect. Predictions for spin-1 heavy meson are compared with experiment
performed at colliders in the energy range from GeV to
GeV, a complete agreement is found for - and -meson.
There are distinct differences from the existing approach and they are
discussed.Comment: 6 pages, Talk given at 3rd Circum-Pan-Pacific Symposium on "High

Gauge Invariance and QCD Twist-3 Factorization for Single Spin Asymmetries
The collinear factorization at twist-3 for Drell-Yan processes is studied
with the motivation to solve the discrepancy in literature about the single
spin asymmetry in the lepton angular distribution, and to show how QCD gauge
invariance is realized in the hadronic tensor. The obtained result here agrees
with our early result derived with a totally different approach. In addition to
the asymmetry we can construct another two observables to identify the spin
effect. We show that the gauge invariance of different contributions in the
hadronic tensor is made in different ways by summing the effects of gluon
exchanges. More interestingly is that we can show that the virtual correction
to one structure function of the hadronic tensor, hence to some weighted SSA
observables, is completely determined by the quark form factor. This will
simplify the calculation of higher order corrections. The corresponding result
in semi-inclusive DIS is also given for the comparison with Drell-Yan
processes.Comment: Small changes, accepted by JHE
Vortex-Bright Soliton Dipoles: Bifurcations, Symmetry Breaking and Soliton Tunneling in a Vortex-Induced Double Well
The emergence of vortex-bright soliton dipoles in two-component Bose-Einstein
condensates through bifurcations from suitable eigenstates of the underlying
linear system is examined. These dipoles can have their bright solitary
structures be in phase (symmetric) or out of phase (anti-symmetric). The
dynamical robustness of each of these two possibilities is considered and the
out-of-phase case is found to exhibit an intriguing symmetry-breaking
instability that can in turn lead to tunneling of the bright wavefunction
between the two vortex "wells". We interpret this phenomenon by virtue of a
vortex-induced double well system, whose spontaneous symmetry breaking leads to
asymmetric vortex-bright dipoles, in addition to the symmetric and
anti-symmetric ones. The theoretical prediction of these states is corroborated
by detailed numerical computations.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
