Echo of the Quantum Bounce
We identify a signature of quantum gravitational effects that survives from
the early universe to the current era: Fluctuations of quantum fields as seen
by comoving observers are significantly influenced by the history of the early
universe. In particular we show how the existence (or not) of a quantum bounce
leaves a trace in the background quantum noise that is not damped and would be
non-negligible even nowadays. Furthermore, we estimate an upper bound for the
typical energy and length scales where quantum effects are relevant. We discuss
how this signature might be observed and therefore used to build falsifiability
tests of quantum gravity theories.Comment: Revtex4.1. 2 Figures. V2: Content extended and edited to match

The Quantum Echo of the Early Universe
We show that the fluctuations of quantum fields as seen by late comoving
observers are significantly influenced by the history of the early Universe,
and therefore they transmit information about the nature of spacetime in
timescales when quantum gravitational effects were non-negligible. We discuss
how this may be observable even nowadays, and thus used to build falsifiability
tests of quantum gravity theories.Comment: 3 pages. 2 Figures. Proceedings Theory Canada 9. Published in

Violation of the strong Huygen's principle and timelike signals from the early Universe
We analyze the implications of the violations of the strong Huygens principle
in the transmission of information from the early universe to the current era
via massless fields. We show that much more information reaches us through
timelike channels (not mediated by real photons) than it is carried by rays of
light, which are usually regarded as the only carriers of information.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. RevTeX 4.1. V2: Updated to match published

Design of an analog/digital truly random number generator
An analog-digital system is presented for the generation of truly random (aperiodic) digital sequences. This model is based on a very simple piecewise-linear discrete map which is suitable for implementation using monolithic analog sampled-data techniques. Simulation results are given illustrating the optimum choice of the model parameters. Circuit implementations are reported for the discrete map using both switched-capacitor (SC) and switched-current (SI) techniques. The layout of a SI prototype in a 3-μm n-well double-polysilicon double-metal technology is included

Nonlinear time-domain macromodeling of OTA circuits
The authors present an accurate nonlinear macromodel of the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) which is suitable for the transient simulation of OTA-based CMOS analog integrated circuits. As compared to device-level OTA models, the proposed macromodel is advantageous in terms of CPU time. Also, in circuits with many OTAs, it does not have the problems of convergence that the device-level MODEL has. All the macromodel parameters can be calculated from measurements made at the OTA terminals. Experimental results from a 3-μm CMOS OTA prototype as well as simulation results from device-level models are included and compared to simulation results from the macromodel

States of low energy in the Schwinger effect
States of low energy in cosmology minimise the energy density when smeared in
a chosen time interval. We extend their construction to generic homogeneous
(possibly anisotropic) particle creation settings. Focusing on the Schwinger
effect, we study the role played by the support of the smearing function and
identify the vacua obtained in the limiting cases of small and large time
intervals. We also analyse the spectral properties of the power spectrum and
the number of created particles, which are complementary in characterising the
vacuum, and investigate the multipolar contributions coming from the
anisotropies.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figure
