Neurosecretory cells in the cirripede, Pollicipes polymerus J. B. Sowerby
A detailed morphological description of neurosecretory cells in the pedunculate barnacle Pollicipes polymerus J. B. Sowerby (Cirripedia) is given. The general anatomy of its central nervous system conforms to that in other pedunculates. Some neurons of the central nervous system are specialized for secretion and are uniformly distributed in all of the ventral ganglia and in the brain

Sea surface temperature and salinity conditions in 1969 at Agate Beach and Yaquina Bay, Oregon : a technical report to the Office of Naval Research
Daily temperature and salinity conditions measured in the surf at Agate Beach, Oregon are summarized by 15 day periods for 1968 and 1969. For each period the number of observations, the high, the low, the mean and the standard deviation of the temperature and salinity measurements are tabulated and figured. Daily data for 1969, derived from afternoon measurements is also given. A map indicating the stations is included, and the data are briefly discussed with the differences between the two years emphasized. The late occurrence of upwelling in 1969 accounts. for the major differences between the two years. A water surface temperature station approximately 3 miles inside the mouth of Yaquina Bay was maintained in 1968 and 1969 by use of continuously recording thermographs. Daily data are given, starting in April, 1968, of surface temperature at higher high, lower low, lower nigh, and higher low waters. The influence of the state of the tide on bay temperatures, as well as that of other seasonal hydrographic phenomena are evident in the tabulations

A Description of the North Shore of the Salmon River Mouth
This is a description of the physical setting and distribution of plant and animal species near the mouth of the Salmon River. Intertidal invertebrates are emphasized. A more marine location is contrasted with a more estuarine site."The following observations were made on July 20, 1966, at a low tide of -1.7 feet." (p.1

Temperature relations of central Oregon marine intertidal invertebrates : a prepublication technical report to the Office of Naval Research
This report is concerned with environmental and animal internal temperatures in the intertidal zone at low tide. Daily sea surface temperatures at Agate Beach, Ore., are compared to weekly measurements made near-by. Greater range and fluctuations are revealed by daily measurements. Data are provided on animal internal temperatures at low tide in early summer for 16 common invertebrates of the rocky intertidal, and some heating rates for 4 of these species. Internal temperature and heating rates were obtained for the sea urchin, Strongylocentrotus purpuratus, in June, 1968, during a heat-kill period. All species were found to normally sustain as much as 10°C increases above sea surface temperatures at low tide in early summer. Implications of this for other aspects of the biology of the intertidal fauna are discussed. The hypothesis is advanced that intertidal invertebrates require a temperature regime which includes as seasonal variations both the low and high temperatures experienced at low tide. The increased digestive and assimilative efficiency produced by summer low tide high internal temperatures may be necessary for successful food utilization and gonad reserve build-up

Inshore sea surface temperature and salinity conditions at Agate Beach, Yaquina Bay and Whale Cove, Oregon, in 1970 : a technical report to the Office of Naval Research
Dai 1 y temperature and sa 1 in i ty conditions measured in the surf at Agate Beach, Oregon, are given and summarized by 15 day periods, with the range, mean and standard deviation of each period indicated. Conditions in 1970 are briefly compared to those observed in 1968 and 1969, and temperature measurements at this station summarized for 15 day periods is figured for the period 1967-1970. Water and near surface air temperatures at a station 3 miles ins{de Yaquina Bay measured at the daily four tidal extremes are tabulated. A system for continuously recording temperature from a thermistor chain installed in the intertidal is described. The design and construction ot thermistor pressure cases, thermistor shielding, and a dual range Wheat- stone Bridge are described and figured. Data recorded from intertidal thermistor cha in installed at Whale Cove, Oregon, at the four daily tidal extremes are given. These data are compared to those from Agate Beach, 10 miles away, and it is concluded that there is poor correlation between the two locations due to hydrographic and topographic differences
