The size of the largest fluctuations in a market model with Markovian switching

This paper considers the size of the large fluctuations of a stochastic differential equation with Markovian switching. We concentrate on processes which obey the Law of the Iterated Logarithm, or obey upper and lower iterated logarithm growth bounds on their almost sure partial maxima. The results are applied to financial market models which are subject to random regime shifts. We prove that the security exhibits the same long-run growth properties and deviations from the trend rate of growth as conventional geometric Brownian motion, and also that the returns, which are non-Gaussian, still exhibit the same growth rate in their almost sure large deviations as stationary continuous-time Gaussian processes

Crystal orientation and thickness dependence of superconductivity on tetragonal FeSe1-x thin films

Superconductivity was recently found in the simple tetragonal FeSe structure. Recent studies suggest that FeSe is unconventional, with the symmetry of the superconducting pairing state still under debate. To tackle these problems, clean single crystals and thin films are required. Here we report the fabrication of superconducting beta-phase FeSe1-x thin films on different substrates using a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. Quite interestingly, the crystal orientation, and thus, superconductivity in these thin films is sensitive to the growth temperature. At 320C, films grow preferably along c-axis, but the onset of superconductivity depends on film thickness. At 500C, films grow along (101), with little thickness dependence. These results suggest that the low temperature structural deformation previously found is crucial to the superconductivity of this material

Massive Complex Scalar Field in a Kerr-Sen Black Hole Background: Exact Solution of Wave Equation and Hawking Radiation

    Get PDF
The separated radial part of a massive complex scalar wave equation in the Kerr-Sen geometry is shown to satisfy the generalized spheroidal wave equation which is, in fact, a confluent Heun equation up to a multiplier. The Hawking evaporation of scalar particles in the Kerr-Sen black hole background is investigated by the Damour-Ruffini-Sannan's method. It is shown that quantum thermal effect of the Kerr-Sen black hole has the same characteras that of the Kerr-Newman black hole.Comment: Revtex, 5 pages, no figure, submitted to Phys. Rev.

Discovery of {\gamma}-ray pulsation and X-ray emission from the black widow pulsar PSR J2051-0827

We report the discovery of pulsed {\gamma}-ray emission and X-ray emission from the black widow millisecond pulsar PSR J2051-0827 by using the data from the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and the Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer array (ACIS-S) on the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Using 3 years of LAT data, PSR J2051-0827 is clearly detected in {\gamma}-ray with a signicance of \sim 8{\sigma} in the 0.2 - 20 GeV band. The 200 MeV - 20 GeV {\gamma}-ray spectrum of PSR J2051-0827 can be modeled by a simple power- law with a photon index of 2.46 \pm 0.15. Significant (\sim 5{\sigma}) {\gamma}-ray pulsations at the radio period were detected. PSR J2051-0827 was also detected in soft (0.3-7 keV) X-ray with Chandra. By comparing the observed {\gamma}-rays and X-rays with theoretical models, we suggest that the {\gamma}-ray emission is from the outer gap while the X-rays can be from intra-binary shock and pulsar magnetospheric synchrotron emissions.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted by ApJ on Jan 28, 201

Asteroseismology of the δ\delta Scuti star HD 50844

Aims. We aim to probe the internal structure and investigate more detailed information of the δ\delta Scuti star HD 50844 with asteroseismology. Methods. We analyse the observed frequencies of the δ\delta Scuti star HD 50844 obtained by Balona (2014), and search for possible multiplets based on the rotational splitting law of g-mode. We tried to disentangle the frequency spectra of HD 50844 by means of the rotational splitting only. We then compare them with theoretical pulsation modes, which correspond to stellar evolutionary models with various sets of initial metallicity and stellar mass, to find the best-fitting model. Results. There are three multiplets including two complete triplets and one incomplete quintuplet, in which mode identifications for spherical harmonic degree ll and azimuthal number mm are unique. The corresponding rotational period of HD 50844 is found to be 2.440.08+0.13^{+0.13}_{-0.08} days. The physical parameters of HD 50844 are well limited in a small region by three modes identified as nonradial ones (f11f_{11}, f22f_{22}, and f29f_{29}) and by the fundamental radial mode (f4f_{4}). Our results show that the three nonradial modes (f11f_{11}, f22f_{22}, and f29f_{29}) are all mixed modes, which mainly represent the property of the helium core. The fundamental radial mode (f4f_{4}) mainly represents the property of the stellar envelope. In order to fit these four pulsation modes, both the helium core and the stellar envelope must be matched to the actual structure of HD 50844. Finally, the mass of the helium core of HD 50844 is estimated to be 0.173 ±\pm 0.004 MM_{\odot} for the first time. The physical parameters of HD 50844 are determined to be M=M= 1.81 ±\pm 0.01 MM_{\odot}, Z=Z= 0.008 ±\pm 0.001. Teff=T_{\rm eff}= 7508 ±\pm 125 K, logg=g= 3.658 ±\pm 0.004, R=R= 3.300 ±\pm 0.023 RR_{\odot}, L=L= 30.98 ±\pm 2.39 LL_{\odot}.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 6 tables, accepted for publication in A&

Anisotropic Magnetoresistance in Charge-Ordering Na0.34(H3O)0.15CoO2Na_{0.34}(H_3O)_{0.15}CoO_2:Strong Spin-Charge Coupling and Spin Ordering

Angular-dependent in-plane magnetoresistance (AMR) for single crystal Na0.34(H3O)0.15CoO2Na_{0.34}(H_3O)_{0.15}CoO_2 with charge ordering is studied systematically. The anisotropic magnetoresistance shows a twofold symmetry at high temperature with rotating H in the Co-O plane, while a sixfold symmetry below a certain temperature (TρT_\rho). At TρT_\rho, the symmetry of AMR changes from twofold to fourfold with rotating magnetic field (H) in the plane consisting of the current and c-axis. The variation of AMR symmetry with temperature arises from the subtle changes of the spin structure. These results give a direct evidence for the itinerant electrons directly coupled to the localized spins.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
