The multivariate master equation for a general reaction-diffusion system is solved perturbatively, in the vicinity of a bifurcation point leading to symmetry-breaking transitions. The possibility to express the result through a Brazovskii type of potential is examined, and a comparison with the Langevin analysis of Walgraef et al. [Adv. Chem.
