Self-assembled dextrin nanogel as curcumin delivery system
Curcumin is a natural polyphenol with anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Its therapeutic potential is substantially hindered by the rather low water solubility and bioavailability, hence the need for suitable carriers. In this study, we show that self-assembled nanogels obtained from hydrophobically modified dextrin are effec-tive curcumin nanocarriers. The stability and loading efficiency of curcumin-loaded nanogel depends on the nano-gel/curcumin ratio. Higher stability of the formulation is achieved in water than in PBS buffer, as evaluated by dynamic light scattering and fluorescence measurements. The in vitro release profile, using sink conditions, indicates that dextrin nanogel may perform as a suitable carrier for the controlled release of curcumin. Effect of temperature and surfactant on the control release of microencapsulated dye in lecithin liposomes. I
The objective of our work has been the microencapsulation of dyes with lecithin from soybean, with the formation of liposomes, as a substitute for synthetic auxiliaries so as to improve the quality of the effluent.
Current scenarios promote the disintegration and leakage of the liposomes, such as, changes in temperature, pH and the use of surfactants. Since dyeing process is a mix of all these parameters, we pretended to study each one separately.
Rhodamine 6G fluorescence is known to be concentration quenched through the formation of non-fluorescent dimmers and, additionally, through the energy transfer from rhodamine monomer to these dimmers (3). The temperature, the surfactant and pH induce a release of the encapsulated dye
resulting in rhodamine dilution and consequently alterations in the dimerization/binding equilibrium. The experimental spectra indicate that rhodamine binds almost completely to liposomes. The decomposition of the rhodamine fluorescence spectra allowed us to determine the percentage of released dye during a simulated dyeing process, and allowed us to conclude that the dimerization process occurs mainly at the inner interfaces. The amount of dye released induced by temperature changes was greater in the presence of surfactant
Magnetoliposomes based on NixCu1-xFe2O4 or NiFe2-yAlyO4 nanocrystals for applications in magnetic separation and classification
Ferrites are a broad class of compounds with general formula MFe2O4, where M stands for a divalent metallic cation. Among these, copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) presents a moderate saturation magnetization, while nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) holds a large one. Mixed ferrites with composition NixCu1-xFe2O4 were then prepared by coprecipitation method, in order to control the saturation magnetization with the fraction of Ni.
Another possibility is the partial substitution of iron atoms with aluminium, as NiAl2O4 nanocrystals show very low saturation magnetization. Thus, ferrites of NiFe2-yAlyO4 composition were also obtained. XRD spectra of the obtained nanoparticles show the spinel-type crystalline phase.
Solid magnetoliposomes of the prepared mixed ferrites were obtained, and their bilayer structure was proven by the use lipophilic fluorescence probes.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Photocatalytic thin films coupled with polymeric microcapsules for the controlled-release of volatile agents upon solar activation
This work reports on the application of solar-activated photocatalytic thin films that
allow the controlled-release of volatile agents (e.g., insecticides, repellents) from the interior of
adsorbed polymeric microcapsules. In order to standardize the tests,a quantification of the
inherent controlled-release of a particular volatile agent is determined by gas chromatography
coupled to mass spectroscopy, so that an application can be offered to a wide range of supports
from various industrial sectors, such as in textiles (clothing, curtains, mosquito nets). This
technology takes advantage of the established photocatalytic property of titanium dioxide
(TiO2) for the use as an active surface/site to promote the controlled-release of a specific vapor
(volatile agentfrom within the aforementioned microcapsules.Portuguese FCT COMPETE scientific

Análise de tendências dos principais fatores determinantes dos processos hidrológicos na Rede AgroHidro.
Este projeto propõe analisar a evolução histórica, identifi car tendências em séries temporais e caracterizar o estado presente de fatores correlacionados aos processos hidrológicos em grandes bacias hidrográfi cas nacionais, em bacias representativas de ecorregiões e nas bacias a serem monitoradas e/ou modeladas pelo projeto, distribuídas nos diferentes biomas brasileiros. Sendo assim, a análise de tendências é o tema central deste Projeto Componente e permitirá correlacionar fatores e entender, com foco no setor agrícola, como tem sido a evolução na oferta e demanda de água ao longo dos anos e como o uso da terra e variáveis sócio-econômicas infl uenciam na disponibilidade e na qualidade da água. A análise de tendências permite entender o passado, caracterizar o cenário atual e como chegamos a ele e, fi nalmente, projetar cenários futuros plausíveis, além de determinar com que velocidade as alterações ocorrem. Os resultados esperados deste projeto, somados às projeções de cenários de mudanças climáticas globais ou regionais, terão forte impacto na análise da vulnerabilidade dos sistemas hidrológicos brasileiros e nas propostas de mitigação e adaptação às novas situações, certamente embasadas em tecnologias que promovam o uso eficiente da água, em termos de quantidade e qualidade, buscando garantir, de maneira sustentável, as demandas da sociedade e do setor agrícola brasileiro
