An exploration into the client at the heart of therapy : a qualitative perspective
Over 50 years ago Eysenck challenged the existing base of research into psychotherapy. Since that time, a large number of investigations have been conducted to verify the efficacy of therapy. Recently however, an increasing number of studies have cast new doubts on this research base. Instead of therapy being a function of the therapist, it is now becoming ever more apparent that the client plays a prime role in the therapeutic process. The qualitative studies presented in this paper provide some examples of research that demonstrates that clients are actively involved in their therapy, even making counselling work despite their counsellor. These studies suggest that clients may not experience therapy as beneficially as traditional outcome studies indicate. This raises a new challenge to researchers to more fully explore the client's experience of therapy, a challenge to which qualitative methods of inquiry would appear well suited
Brexit and Information Communication & Technology (ICT): Shaping ICT priorities
Information Communication and Technology (ICT) is fundamental to the delivery and support of all aspects of society in addition to significantly contributing directly to each nation’s GDP. This briefing captures key actions and requirements for the domain in the light of the UK’s decision to exit the EU. It is based on the views of ICT and other professionals from the UK and internationally. It makes the case that the UK Government needs to work overtly with a wide range of ICT experts to ensure that laws are optimized for the ICT domain and that there are targeted policies and funding strategies to support and grow the ICT domain through this change. In addition, it raises the significance of international cooperation in particular to meet environmental and ICT ethical challenges

However, a major issue facing society is the extent to which the concept of the digital record has been challenged and, furthermore, to what extent the digital evidence base is at risk because we do not have all the tools to maintain and sustain it through time. Rethinking the digital evidence base raises many questions. McLeod and Lomas have debated and researched the notions of fixity for well over a decade. Results from the CASTLES Survey of Gravitational Lenses
We show that most gravitational lenses lie on the passively evolving
fundamental plane for early-type galaxies. For burst star formation models (1
Gyr of star formation, then quiescence) in low Omega_0 cosmologies, the stellar
populations of the lens galaxies must have formed at z_f > 2. Typical lens
galaxies contain modest amounts of patchy extinction, with a median
differential extinction for the optical (radio) selected lenses of E(B-V) =
0.04 (0.07) mag. The dust can be used to determine both extinction laws and
lens redshifts. For example, the z_l=0.96 elliptical lens in MG0414+0534 has an
R_V=1.7 +/- 0.1 mean extinction law. Arc and ring images of the quasar and AGN
source host galaxies are commonly seen in NICMOS H band observations. The hosts

Feedback from massive stars at low metallicities : MUSE observations of N44 and N180 in the Large Magellanic Cloud
Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 27 pages, 21 figuresWe present MUSE integral field data of two HII region complexes in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), N44 and N180. Both regions consist of a main superbubble and a number of smaller, more compact HII regions that formed on the edge of the superbubble. For a total of 11 HII regions, we systematically analyse the radiative and mechanical feedback from the massive O-type stars on the surrounding gas. We exploit the integral field property of the data and the coverage of the HeII5412 line to identify and classify the feedback-driving massive stars, and from the estimated spectral types and luminosity classes we determine the stellar radiative output in terms of the ionising photon flux . We characterise the HII regions in terms of their sizes, morphologies, ionisation structure, luminosity and kinematics, and derive oxygen abundances via emission line ratios. We analyse the role of different stellar feedback mechanisms for each region by measuring the direct radiation pressure, the pressure of the ionised gas, and the pressure of the shock-heated winds. We find that stellar winds and ionised gas are the main drivers of HII region expansion in our sample, while the direct radiation pressure is up to three orders of magnitude lower than the other terms. We relate the total pressure to the star formation rate per unit area, , for each region and find that stellar feedback has a negative effect on star formation, and sets an upper limit to as a function of increasing pressure.Peer reviewe
