Theory of plasmon decay in dense plasmas and warm dense matter
The decay of the Langmuir waves in dense plasmas is not accurately predicted
by the prevalent Landau damping theory. A dielectric function theory is
introduced, predicting much higher damping than the Landau damping theory. This
strong damping is in better agreement with the experimentally observed data in
metals. It is shown that the strong plasmon decay leads to the existence of a
parameter regime where the backward Raman scattering is unstable while the
forward Raman scattering is stable. This regime may be used to create intense
x-ray pulses, by means of the the backward Raman compression. The optimal pulse
duration and intensity is estimated
A glance at imaging bladder cancer.
Purpose: Early and accurate diagnosis of Bladder cancer (BCa) will contribute extensively to the management of the disease. The purpose of this review was to briefly describe the conventional imaging methods and other novel imaging modalities used for early detection of BCa and outline their pros and cons.
Methods: Literature search was performed on Pubmed, PMC, and Google scholar for the period of January 2014 to February 2018 and using such words as bladder cancer, bladder tumor, bladder cancer detection, diagnosis and imaging .
Results: A total of 81 published papers were retrieved and are included in the review. For patients with hematuria and suspected of BCa, cystoscopy and CT are most commonly recommended. Ultrasonography, MRI, PET/CT using 18F-FDG or 11C-choline and recently PET/MRI using 18F-FDG also play a prominent role in detection of BCa.
Conclusion: For initial diagnosis of BCa, cystoscopy is generally performed. However, cystoscopy can not accurately detect carcinoma insitu (CIS) and can not distinguish benign masses from malignant lesions. CT is used in two modes, CT and computed tomographic urography (CTU), both for dignosis and staging of BCa. However, they cannot differentiate T1 and T2 BCa. MRI is performed to diagnose invasive BCa and can differentiate muscle invasive bladder carcinoma (MIBC) from non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma (NMIBC). However, CT and MRI have low sensitivity for nodal staging. For nodal staging PET/CT is preferred. PET/MRI provides better differentiation of normal and pathologic structures as compared with PET/CT. Nonetheless none of the approaches can address all issues related for the management of BCa. Novel imaging methods that target specific biomarkers, image BCa early and accurately, and stage the disease are warranted
Coarsening Dynamics of an Antiferromagnetic XY model on the Kagome Lattice: Breakdown of the Critical Dynamic Scaling
We find a breakdown of the critical dynamic scaling in the coarsening
dynamics of an antiferromagnetic {\em XY} model on the kagome lattice when the
system is quenched from disordered states into the Kosterlitz-Thouless ({\em
KT}) phases at low temperatures. There exist multiple growing length scales:
the length scales of the average separation between fractional vortices are
found to be {\em not} proportional to the length scales of the quasi-ordered
domains. They are instead related through a nontrivial power-law relation. The
length scale of the quasi-ordered domains (as determined from optimal collapse
of the correlation functions for the order parameter )
does not follow a simple power law growth but exhibits an anomalous growth with
time-dependent effective growth exponent. The breakdown of the critical dynamic
scaling is accompanied by unusual relaxation dynamics in the decay of
fractional () vortices, where the decay of the vortex numbers is
characterized by an exponential function of logarithmic powers in time.Comment: 13 pages, 26 figure
Concurrent Magnetic and Metal-Insulator Transitions in (Eu,Sm)B_6 Single Crystals
The effects of magnetic doping on a EuB_6 single crystal were investigated
based on magnetic and transport measurements. A modest 5% Sm substitution for
Eu changes the magnetic and transport properties dramatically and gives rise to
concurrent antiferromagnetic and metal-insulator transitions (MIT) from
ferromagnetic MIT for EuB6. Magnetic doping simultaneously changes the
itinerant carrier density and the magnetic interactions. We discuss the origin

Patterns of Striped order in the Classical Lattice Coulomb Gas
We obtain via Monte Carlo simulations the low temperature charge
configurations in the lattice Coulomb gas on square lattices for charge filling
ratio in the range . We find a simple regularity in the low
temperature charge configurations which consist of a suitable periodic
combination of a few basic striped patterns characterized by the existence of
partially filled diagonal channels. In general there exist two separate
transitions where the lower temperature transition () corresponds to the
freezing of charges within the partially filled channels. is found to be
sensitively dependent on through the charge number density within the channels.Comment: 4 pages, 8 figure
A Spectral Line Survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHZ toward Orion-KL
We present the results of a spectral line survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz
toward Orion-KL. The observations were made using the 14 m radio telescope of
Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Typical system temperatures were between
500 and 700 K, with the sensitivity between K in units of .
A total of 149 line spectra are detected in this survey. Fifty lines have
been previously reported, however we find 99 new detections. Among these new
lines, 32 are `unidentified', while 67 are from molecular transitions with
known identifications. There is no detection of H or He recombination lines.
The identified spectra are from a total of 16 molecular species and their
isotopic variants. In the range from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz, the strongest spectral
line is the J=3-2 transition of CS molecule, followed by transitions of the
, , , and . Spectral lines from
the large organic molecules such as , , , and are prominent; with 80 % of the
identified lines arising from transitions of these molecules. The rotational
temperatures and column densities are derived using the standard rotation
diagram analysis for (), , and with and . These estimates are fairly comparable to the values for the

UBVI Surface Photometry of the Spiral Galaxy NGC 300 in the Sculptor Group
We present UBVI surface photometry for 20.'5 X 20.'5 area of a late-type
spiral galaxy NGC 300. In order to understand the morphological properties and
luminosity distribution characteristics of NGC 300, we have derived isophotal
maps, surface brightness profiles, ellipticity profiles, position angle
profiles, and color profiles. By merging the I-band data of our surface
brightness measurements with those of Boeker et al. (2002) based on Hubble
Space Telescope observations, we have made combined I-band surface brightness
profiles for the region of 0."02 < r < 500" and decomposed the profiles into
