Properties of electrons near a Van Hove singularity
The Fermi surface of most hole-doped cuprates is close to a Van Hove
singularity at the M point. A two-dimensional electronic system, whose Fermi
surface is close to a Van Hove singularity shows a variety of weak coupling
instabilities. It is a convenient model to study the interplay between
antiferromagnetism and anisotropic superconductivity. The renormalization group
approach is reviewed with emphasis on the underlying physical processes.
General properties of the phase diagram and possible deformations of the Fermi

Deformation of the Fermi surface in the extended Hubbard model
The deformation of the Fermi surface induced by Coulomb interactions is
investigated in the t-t'-Hubbard model. The interplay of the local U and
extended V interactions is analyzed. It is found that exchange interactions V
enhance small anisotropies producing deformations of the Fermi surface which
break the point group symmetry of the square lattice at the Van Hove filling.
This Pomeranchuck instability competes with ferromagnetism and is suppressed at
a critical value of U(V). The interaction V renormalizes the t' parameter to
smaller values what favours nesting. It also induces changes on the topology of
the Fermi surface which can go from hole to electron-like what may explain

We are all made of stars,? the song claims. Indeed, as Carl Sagan said, we are made of star stuff. But we often forget the message of unity ingrained in such reality. The typical narrow short-term perspective characterizing human planning, combined with self-interest, frequently leads to a tragedy of the commons where the very same resources essential for survival or prosperity are compromised or destroyed (Hardin 1968). Such selfish exploitation of common goods sits at the base of many current global problems, including the depletion of natural resources, accelerated climate change, and the loss of biodiversity. Fortunately, there is an increasing awareness of the importance of the natural environment, and an emerging paradigm shift is attempting to ameliorate the negative consequences of global problems for our children and subsequent generations. However, most if not all current plans are somehow shortsighted. For example, the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 set their targets for the year 2030. The United Nations Climate Change Conferences of the Parties implicitly or explicitly set their purposes for one or a few generations. The question is whether short-term goals and vision will be enough?or even adequate?to ensure the preservation of most life forms, including humanity, into the distant future. Although short-term targets are essential to trigger the necessary immediate action, shouldn't biodiversity preservation thinking and planning occur on a much longer time frame? Contribution of Collaborative Work to Teacher Reflection and the Transformation of Pedagogical Practices of School and University Science Teachers // Contribución del trabajo colaborativo en la reflexión docente y en la transformación de las prácticas pedagógicas de profesores de ciencia escolares y universitarios
Poor results of science learning, both at school and university, have led us to acknowledge the need to transform our teaching. Currently, reflection and collaborative work with colleagues are conceived as being key factors in the process of the transformation of practices. Based on the experiences of a group of school and university science teachers working on action-research, we describe the contribution that collaborative work has on reflection for the transformation of practices. The main aspects are the recognition of strengths and weaknesses, listening to and learning from the experience of others, and the discussion of specific classroom practices. On the other hand, these reflections contribute to the transformation at different levels: the teacher, classroom teaching practices, and the school community. The fact that it is a diverse group that includes both school and university teachers generate enriching reflections that help to transform practices in both areas. enseñanza. En la actualidad, la reflexión y el trabajo colaborativo con colegas se

experiencia de un grupo de docentes escolares y universitarios de ciencia que realiza
una investigación-acción, describimos la contribución que tiene el trabajo colaborativo
sobre la reflexión para la transformación de las prácticas. Destacan aspectos como el
reconocimiento de debilidades y fortalezas, el escuchar y aprender de la experiencia
de otros y la discusión de prácticas concretas de aula. Por otra parte, estas reflexiones
contribuyen a la transformación en diferentes niveles: del profesor, de las prácticas
del docente en el aula y de la comunidad escolar. El hecho de que sea un grupo
diverso, que incluye a profesores tanto del sistema escolar como universitario, genera
reflexiones enriquecedoras, que ayudan a transformar las prácticas en estos dos ámbitos,
beneficiando no solo al sistema escolar, sino también a la formación de profesores de
ciencia, y dando luces acerca de una nueva relación universidad-escuela

La transformación de las prácticas de los docentes en el área de ciencias, tanto a nivel escolar como universitario (incluida la formación inicial), constituye una necesidad urgente si pretendemos alfabetizar científicamente a la población. Este estudio muestra una propuesta de cinco principios para el desarrollo profesional docente en ciencias, que emergen desde la indagación colaborativa de las propias prácticas de un conjunto de docentes de educación primaria, secundaria y universitaria, quienes trabajan hace cuatro años en un proceso de desarrollo profesional conjunto. Estos principios incluyen la construcción de una visión común acerca del para qué enseñar ciencias, la indagación de las prácticas a partir de las particularidades de la educación científica, la reflexión individual y colectiva sobre las prácticas, la valoración de la autoridad de la experiencia para el aprendizaje docente y la promoción de un ambiente de desarrollo profesional que involucre diversidad de contextos y niveles de enseñanza. // The transformation of teaching practices in the area of sciences, both at school and university levels (including initial training), is an urgent need if we intend to achieve scientific literacy in the population. This study shows a proposal of five principles for teacher professional development in sciences, emerged from the collaborative inquiry of self-practices in a group of primary, secondary and university teachers, who have been working together for four years in a professional development process. These principles include the construction of a common vision on the purpose for teaching sciences; the inquiry of practices starting from the distinctive features of scientific education; individual and collective reflection on practices; the valuation of the authority of experience for teacher learning; and the promotion of an environment of professional development involving diverse contexts and teaching levels. Implications for professional development are discussed
Evaluación de los riegos de la Comunidad de Regantes V del Canal de las Bardenas
14 Pag., 2 Tabl., 1 Fig.[ES] En este artículo se presentan los resultados de las evaluaciones de riego que se han llevado a cabo dentro de la segunda fase del trabajo denominado “Mejora de la Gestión Integral del Agua de Riego en la Comunidad de Regantes V del Canal de Bardenas”. El 80 % de la superficie de esta comunidad está ocupado por suelos de plataformas residuales, mientras que el resto son suelos de aluvial. Para caracterizar la capacidad de retención de agua de los suelos (CRA) se realizó un muestro en el que se describieron 50 perfiles. Para determinar la infiltración de los suelos y los índices de calidad del riego por superficie se realizaron 50 evaluaciones de riego. Un adecuado manejo del agua a nivel de parcela y unas texturas francas-franco arenosas permiten alcanzar niveles de eficiencia medios en las parcelas de las plataformas (53 % de media), cuyos suelos se caracterizan por una baja CRA (60 mm de media). En aluviales la eficiencia llega hasta un 80 % de media, gracias a las elevadas capacidades de retención de agua de estos suelos (182 mm de media). Actualmente se está realizado un reaprovechamiento de las aguas de desagüe que posiblemente provoque que la eficiencia a nivel de comunidad sea mayor que la obtenida a nivel de parcela. Estos resultados permiten pensar que la modernización de los regadíos, mediante el cambio a un sistema de riego presurizado, tendría un fuerte impacto sobre la eficiencia en parcela, aunque el impacto sobre la eficiencia en la comunidad sería menor. La modernización tendría resultados muy beneficiosos social y económicamente para los agricultores, además de mejorar la calidad de las aguas de los ríos que atraviesan la comunidad.[EN] Results of the irrigation evaluations performed in the second phase of the project “Improvement of the Water Irrigation Integral Management in the Comunidad de Regantes V del Canal de Bardenas” are presented in this paper. An 80 % of the area of the Irrigation District is occupied by soils of residual platforms, and the rest of the soils are alluvial. A soil survey was performed for characterising the water holding capacity (WHC) of the soils, using 50 soil profiles. A total of 50 irrigation evaluations was performed for determining soil infiltration and the performance indexes of surface irrigation in the study area. An adequate water management in border irrigation and loam-sandy loam textures permit to attain 53 % application efficiency in platforms, whose soils are characterized by a low WHC (with an average of 60 mm). In alluvial soils the application efficiency is higher, with an average of 80 %, due to the high water holding capacity of these soils (an average of 182 mm). Currently, The district is enforcing a program for irrigation return flows reuse. This program surely results in an irrigation district efficiency substantially higher that the average application efficiency. With these results is possible to think that an irrigation modernization, through a change to a pressurized irrigation system will severely improve the application efficiency, but the effect on the irrigation district efficiency will only be moderate. Kinetic Energy-induced Growth Regimes of Nanocolumnar Ti Thin Films Deposited by Evaporation and Magnetron Sputtering
We experimentally analyze different growth regimes of Ti thin films associated to the existence of kinetic energy-induced relaxation mechanisms in the material's network when operating at oblique geometries. For this purpose, we have deposited different films by evaporation and magnetron sputtering under similar geometrical arrangements and at low temperatures. With the help of a well-established growth model we have found three different growth regimes: (i) low energy deposition, exemplified by the evaporation technique, carried out by species with typical energies in the thermal range, where the morphology and density of the film can be explained by solely considering surface shadowing processes, (ii) magnetron sputtering under weak plasma conditions, where the film growth is mediated by surface shadowing mechanisms and kinetic-energy-induced relaxation processes, and (iii) magnetron sputtering under intense plasma conditions, where the film growth is highly influenced by the plasma, and whose morphology is defined by nanocolumns with similar tilt than evaporated films, but with much higher density. Phytopathogenic fungi associated with blueberry dieback (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) pruning and sealing management
Objective: Identify the phytopathogenic fungi related to the downward death of blueberry, verify their pathogenicity, their incidence after pruning and the type of sealing.
Design/methodology/approach: For this, samples of symptomatic stems and branches were collected in eight commercial blueberry lots in the municipalities of Ahome, El Fuerte and Guasave in the state of Sinaloa, of which 196 fungal isolates were obtained, which were morphologically identified; to subsequently perform pathogenicity tests on detached leaf and bilox rods; Likewise, 2 pruning angles and three sealants were evaluated compared to an absolute control with a completely random arrangement.
Results: Based on morphological analysis, the genera were determined: Alternaria, Fusarium, Lasiodiplodia, Pestalotia and Curvularia, however, only the isolates of Lasiodiplodia were pathogenic in leaves and rods, while the best result is achieved with the angle of pruning 45º and sealing with vinyl paint type washable plastic plus copper oxychloride.

Effects of early life exposure to traffic-related air pollution on brain development in juvenile Sprague-Dawley rats
Epidemiological studies link traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) to increased risk for various neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs); however, there are limited preclinical data demonstrating a causal relationship between TRAP and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Moreover, much of the preclinical literature reports effects of concentrated ambient particles or diesel exhaust that do not recapitulate the complexity of real-world TRAP exposures. To assess the developmental neurotoxicity of more realistic TRAP exposures, we exposed male and female rats during gestation and early postnatal development to TRAP drawn directly from a traffic tunnel in Northern California and delivered to animals in real-time. We compared NDD-relevant neuropathological outcomes at postnatal days 51-55 in TRAP-exposed animals versus control subjects exposed to filtered air. As indicated by immunohistochemical analyses, TRAP significantly increased microglial infiltration in the CA1 hippocampus, but decreased astrogliosis in the dentate gyrus. TRAP exposure had no persistent effect on pro-inflammatory cytokine levels in the male or female brain, but did significantly elevate the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 in females. In male rats, TRAP significantly increased hippocampal neurogenesis, while in females, TRAP increased granule cell layer width. TRAP had no effect on apoptosis in either sex. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed that TRAP-exposed females, but not males, also exhibited decreased lateral ventricular volume, which was correlated with increased granule cell layer width in the hippocampus in females. Collectively, these data indicate that exposure to real-world levels of TRAP during gestation and early postnatal development modulate neurodevelopment, corroborating epidemiological evidence of an association between TRAP exposure and increased risk of NDDs
