Study of pure annihilation type decays B→Ds∗KB \to D_s^{*} K

In this work, we calculate the rare decays B0→Ds∗−K+B^0 \to D_s^{*-} K^+ and B+→Ds∗+Kˉ0B^+ \to D_s^{*+} \bar{K}^0 in perturbative QCD approach with Sudakov resummation. We give the branching ratio of 10−510^{-5} for B0→Ds∗−K+B^0 \to D_s^{*-}K^+, which will be tested soon in BB factories. The decay B+→Ds∗+Kˉ0B^+ \to D_s^{*+} \bar{K}^0 has a very small branching ratio at O(10−8){\cal O}(10^{-8}), due to the suppression from CKM matrix elements ∣Vub∗Vcd∣|V_{ub}^* V_{cd}|. It may be sensitive to new physics contributions.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

Recently, there have been considerable efforts to search for naturally occurring substances that can inhibit, reverse, or retard the multi-stage carcinogenesis. A wide array of phenolic substances derived from edible and medicinal plants have been reported to possess anticarcinogenic and antimutagenic activities and in many cases, the chemopreventive activities of phytochemicals are associated with their anti-inflammatory and/or antioxidative properties. Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer cultivated in Korea has been widely used in traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of various diseases. Certain fractions or purified ingredients of ginseng have been shown to exert anticarcinogenic and antimutagenic activities. Our previous studies have revealed that the methanol extract of heat-processed Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer attenuates the lipid peroxidation in rat brain homogenates and is also capable of scavenging superoxide generated by xanthine- xanthine oxidase or by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) in differentiated human promyelocytic leukemia (HL-60) cells. Topical application of the same extract onto shaven backs of female ICR mice also suppressed TPA-induced skin tumor promotion. Likewise, topical application of ginsenoside Rg3, one of the constituents of heat-treated ginseng, significantly inhibited TPA-induced mouse epidermal ornithine decarboxylase activity and skin tumor promotion. Expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in TPA-stimulated mouse skin was markedly suppressed by Rg3 pretreatment. In addition, Rg3 inhibited TPA-stimulated activation of NF-kappaB and extracellular-regulated protein kinase (ERK), one of the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase in mouse skin and also in cultured human breast epithelial cells (MCF-10A)

    Perturbative QCD analysis of B→ϕK∗B \to \phi K^* decays

We study the first observed charmless B→VVB\to VV modes, the B→ϕK∗B\to\phi K^* decays, in perturbative QCD formalism. The obtained branching ratios B(B→ϕK∗)∌15×10−6B(B\to\phi K^*)\sim 15 \times 10^{-6} are larger than ∌9×10−6\sim 9\times 10^{-6} from QCD factorization. The comparison of the predicted magnitudes and phases of the different helicity amplitudes, and branching ratios with experimental data can test the power counting rules, the evaluation of annihilation contributions, and the mechanism of dynamical penguin enhancement in perturbative QCD, respectively.Comment: 14 pages, 2 tables, brief disscussion on hard sacle added, version to appear in PR

Nonstandard order parameters and the origin of CP violation

The consideration of chirality-preserving 2-fermion order parameters may shed new light on the strong CP problem and the breakdown of flavor symmetries. We describe two situations, one having the standard KM picture for weak CP violation and another having new sources of weak CP violation.Comment: 12 pages, no figure

    Perturbative QCD factorization of Ï€Îłâˆ—â†’Îł(π)\pi \gamma^*\to \gamma(\pi) and B→γ(π)lΜˉB\to \gamma(\pi)l\bar \nu

We prove factorization theorem for the processes Ï€Îłâˆ—â†’Îł\pi\gamma^*\to\gamma and Ï€Îłâˆ—â†’Ï€\pi\gamma^*\to\pi to leading twist in the covariant gauge by means of the Ward identity. Soft divergences cancel and collinear divergences are grouped into a pion wave function defined by a nonlocal matrix element. The gauge invariance and universality of the pion wave function are confirmed. The proof is then extended to the exclusive BB meson decays B→γlΜˉB\to\gamma l\bar\nu and B→πlΜˉB\to\pi l\bar\nu in the heavy quark limit. It is shown that a light-cone BB meson wave function, though absorbing soft dynamics, can be defined in an appropriate frame. Factorization of the B→πlΜˉB\to\pi l\bar\nu decay in kTk_T space, kTk_T being parton transverse momenta, is briefly discussed. We comment on the extraction of the leading-twist pion wave function from experimental data.Comment: 21 pages in Latex file, version to appear in Phys. Rev.

Threshold resummation for exclusive B meson decays

We argue that double logarithmic corrections αsln⁥2x\alpha_s\ln^2 x need to be resumed in perturbative QCD factorization theorem for exclusive BB meson decays, when the end-point region with a momentum fraction x→0x\to 0 is important. These double logarithms, being of the collinear origin, are absorbed into a quark jet function, which is defined by a matrix element of a quark field attached by a Wilson line. The factorization of the jet function from the decay B→γlΜˉB\to\gamma l\bar\nu is proved to all orders. Threshold resummation for the jet function leads to a universal, {\it i.e.}, process-independent, Sudakov factor, whose qualitative behavior is analyzed and found to smear the end-point singularities in heavy-to-light transition form factors.Comment: 10 pages, more details are include

Bottleneck resources, market relatedness, and the dynamics of organizational growth

Entering a new product market requires assembling a bundle of resources. Because missing a single resource can foil the entire entry effort, we argue that bottleneck resources – those most difficult to obtain or sell externally – anchor the direction of firm growth. We characterize market resources as bottlenecks to product-market entry because they are (on average) more challenging to obtain and sell than technological resources, and we articulate why the importance of market resources varies with the strength of external markets for technology. Using cross-industry data linking firms’ product portfolios with patents, we find resource dynamics whereby market resources drive the strategic decision to enter, and firms fill technological gaps using both internal R&D and external acquisitions (joint ventures and alliances). Our study underscores the importance of resources for firm growth dynamics and specifically highlights market resources as the bottleneck that constrains and directs the direction of product market entr

Charmless two-body B decays: A global analysis with QCD factorization

In this paper, we perform a global analysis of B→PPB \to PP and PVPV decays with the QCD factorization approach. It is encouraging to observe that the predictions of QCD factorization are in good agreement with experiment. The best fit Îł\gamma is around 79∘79^\circ. The penguin-to-tree ratio ∣Pππ/TÏ€Ï€âˆŁ|P_{\pi \pi}/T_{\pi \pi}| of π+π−\pi^+ \pi^- decays is preferred to be larger than 0.3. We also show the confidence levels for some interesting channels: B0→π0π0B^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0, K+K−K^+ K^- and B+→ωπ+B^+ \to \omega \pi^+, ωK+\omega K^+. For B→πK∗B \to \pi K^\ast decays, they are expected to have smaller branching ratios with more precise measurements.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev.

    kTk_T factorization of exclusive processes

    Get PDF
We prove kTk_T factorization theorem in perturbative QCD (PQCD) for exclusive processes by considering Ï€Îłâˆ—â†’Îł(π)\pi\gamma^*\to \gamma(\pi) and B→γ(π)lΜˉB\to\gamma(\pi) l\bar\nu. The relevant form factors are expressed as the convolution of hard amplitudes with two-parton meson wave functions in the impact parameter bb space, bb being conjugate to the parton transverse momenta kTk_T. The point is that on-shell valence partons carry longitudinal momenta initially, and acquire kTk_T through collinear gluon exchanges. The bb-dependent two-parton wave functions with an appropriate path for the Wilson links are gauge-invariant. The hard amplitudes, defined as the difference between the parton-level diagrams of on-shell external particles and their collinear approximation, are also gauge-invariant. We compare the predictions for two-body nonleptonic BB meson decays derived from kTk_T factorization (the PQCD approach) and from collinear factorization (the QCD factorization approach).Comment: 11 pages, REVTEX, 5 figure
