Nature of genetic control of the length and number of elongated internodes in deepwater rice under non-flooded condition
Inheritance of total length and number of elongated internodes in some varities of deepwater rice were studied in a 7 X 7 diallel (excluding reciprocals) by a procedure that does not require flooding. Estimates of combining ability and genetic component analysis showed highly significant additive and non-additive gene effects with preponderance of additive type. The high estimate of narrow sense heritability further supported the importance of additive gene effects. lalmagna and IR40905-11-3-1-5-2-21 were not always the best combiners. The significance of the
gene distribution indicated the presence of gene asymmetry. The average degree of dominance was 8.83 for both
total length and number of elongated internodes indicating partial dominance
Field of a Radiation Distributuion
General relativistic spherically symmetric matter field with a vanishing
stress energy scalar is analyzed. Procedure for generating exact solutions of
the field equations for such matter distributions is given. It is further
pointed out that all such type I spherically symmetric fields with distinct
eignvalues in the radial two space can be treated as a mixture of isotropic and
directed radiations. Various classes of exact solutions are given. Junction
conditions for such a matter field to the possible exterior solutions are also

The final fate of spherical inhomogeneous dust collapse II: Initial data and causal structure of singularity
Further to results in [9], pointing out the role of initial density and
velocity distributions towards determining the final outcome of spherical dust
collapse, the causal structure of singularity is examined here in terms of
evolution of the apparent horizon. We also bring out several related features
which throw some useful light towards understanding the nature of this
singularity, including the behaviour of geodesic families coming out and some

Profiling a decade of information systems frontiers’ research
This article analyses the first ten years of research published in the Information Systems Frontiers (ISF) from 1999 to 2008. The analysis of the published material includes examining variables such as most productive authors, citation analysis, universities associated with the most publications, geographic diversity, authors’ backgrounds and research methods. The keyword analysis suggests that ISF research has evolved from establishing concepts and domain of information systems (IS), technology and management to contemporary issues such as outsourcing, web services and security. The analysis presented in this paper has identified intellectually significant studies that have contributed to the development and accumulation of intellectual wealth of ISF. The analysis has also identified authors published in other journals whose work largely shaped and guided the researchers published in ISF. This research has implications for researchers, journal editors, and research institutions
Effect of water depth, seedling age, and day length on elongation induced by short-duration flooding treatment in rice
Experiments conducted on seedling age and different water depths revealed that short-duration, 7-day flooding of 3 week-
old seedling was effective in assessing elongation potential in deepwater rice varieties. Water depths of 90-100
cm were sufficient to express elongating ability and 3-week-old seedlings gave better contrast between elongating
modern varieties and non-elongating modern varieties. Maximum internode length was under short-day-length
conditions while shortest internodes were obtained in the long day treatment. Internode elongation may be due only to
the signal effect of day length or the shading effect on assimilation. Further experiments should be conducted to
confirm these findings
E-government adoption: A cultural comparison

This study compares e-government adoption in the U.K. to adoption in the U.S. In particular, this study seeks to determine if the same factors are salient in both countries. Several studies have explored citizen acceptance of e-government services in the U.S. However, few studies have explored this phenomenon in the U.K. To identify the similarities and differences between the U.K. and the U.S. a survey is conducted in the U.K. and the findings are compared to the literature that investigates diffusion in the U.S. This study proposes a model of e-government adoption in the U.K. based on salient factors in the U.S. A survey is administered to 260 citizens in London to assess the importance of relative advantage, trust and the digital divide on intention to use e-government. The results of binary logistic regression indicate that there are cultural differences in e-government adoption in the U.K. and the U.S. The results indicate that of the prevailing adoption constructs, relative advantage and trust are pertinent in both the U.S. and the U.K., while ICT adoption barriers such as access and skill may vary by culture. Implications for research and practice are discussed
High-Throughput Screening of Shape Memory Alloy Thin-Film Spreads using Nanoindentation
We have demonstrated the utility of nanoindentation as a rapid characterization tool for mapping shape memoryalloy compositions in combinatorial thin-film libraries. Nanoindentation was performed on Ni–Mn–Al ternary composition spreads. The indentation hardness and the reduced elastic modulus were mapped across a large fraction of the ternary phase diagram. The large shape memoryalloy composition region, located around the Heusler composition (Ni2MnAl), was found to display significant departure in these mechanical properties from the rest of the composition spread. In particular, the modulus and the hardness values are lower for the martensite region than those of the rest of the phase diagram
Gravitational Waves around a Naked Singularity -- Odd-Parity Perturbation of Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi Space-Time --
The motion of a spherical dust cloud is described by the
Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi solution and is completely specified by initial values of
distributions of the rest mass density and specific energy of the dust fluid.
From generic initial conditions of this spherically symmetric collapse, there
appears a naked singularity at the symmetric center in the course of the
gravitational collapse of the dust cloud. So this might be a counter example to
the cosmic censorship hypothesis. To investigate the genericity of this
example, we examine the stability of the `nakedness' of this singularity
against odd-parity modes of non-spherical linear perturbations for the metric,
i.e., linear gravitational waves. We find that the perturbations do not diverge
but are well-behaved even in the neighborhood of the central naked singularity.
This means that the naked singularity formation process is marginally stable

Collapsing shells of radiation in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and the hoop and cosmic censorship conjectures
Gravitational collapse of radiation in an anti-de Sitter background is
studied. For the spherical case, the collapse proceeds in much the same way as
in the Minkowski background, i.e., massless naked singularities may form for a
highly inhomogeneous collapse, violating the cosmic censorship, but not the
hoop conjecture. The toroidal, cylindrical and planar collapses can be treated
together. In these cases no naked singularity ever forms, in accordance with
the cosmic censorship. However, since the collapse proceeds to form toroidal,
cylindrical or planar black holes, the hoop conjecture in an anti-de Sitter

Machine learning risk prediction model for acute coronary syndrome and death from use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in administrative data
Our aim was to investigate the usefulness of machine learning approaches on linked administrative health data at the population level in predicting older patients’ one-year risk of acute coronary syndrome and death following the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Patients from a Western Australian cardiovascular population who were supplied with NSAIDs between 1 Jan 2003 and 31 Dec 2004 were identified from Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data. Comorbidities from linked hospital admissions data and medication history were inputs. Admissions for acute coronary syndrome or death within one year from the first supply date were outputs. Machine learning classification methods were used to build models to predict ACS and death. Model performance was measured by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC), sensitivity and specificity. There were 68,889 patients in the NSAIDs cohort with mean age 76 years and 54% were female. 1882 patients were admitted for acute coronary syndrome and 5405 patients died within one year after their first supply of NSAIDs. The multi-layer neural network, gradient boosting machine and support vector machine were applied to build various classification models. The gradient boosting machine achieved the best performance with an average AUC-ROC of 0.72 predicting ACS and 0.84 predicting death. Machine learning models applied to linked administrative data can potentially improve adverse outcome risk prediction. Further investigation of additional data and approaches are required to improve the performance for adverse outcome risk prediction
