Repeated apomorphine administration alters dopamine D1 and D2 receptor densities in pigeon basal telencephalon

When pigeons are repeatedly administered a dose of apomorphine they show an increasing behavioral response, much as rodents do. In birds this expresses itself in an augmented pecking response. This sensitization is assumed to be largely due to a conditioning process. Here we present evidence that sensitization is accompanied by an alteration of the D 1 to D 2 dopamine receptor densities. An experimental group of pigeons was repeatedly injected with apomorphine, and a control group with saline. The basal forebrain tissue, known to be rich in dopamine receptors, was subjected to binding assays using tritiated specific D 1 and D 2 dopamine receptor antagonists. There was a trend towards an increase in D 1 and a significant decrease in D 2 receptor densities in apomorphine-treated birds compared to the saline-treated controls. We conclude that extended apomorphine treatment modifies the D 1 dopamine receptor density in the opposite manner to the D 2 dopamine receptor density.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/46541/1/221_2004_Article_2158.pd

Logistics management based on demand forecasting

    No full text
The companies of any industry are strongly affected with current globalization trend, which makes supply chain flows more and more bulky and complex. To be competitive in cost and eco-friend way under contemporary business market conditions, the companies should apply system approach of logistics management to plan, manage and control of their logistics processes. Each company’s system can be analysed and divided into essential logistics sub-systems: purchasing, production, packaging, warehousing, distribution and reverse material flow management. Thus, the system and process approach are crucial for up-to-date logistics systems or subsystems management in context of long-term sustainable growth. Any effective logistics management system should be based on sub-system of demand forecasting. Demand forecasting is increasingly getting important to make right managerial decisions. Well developed demand forecasting sub-sytem in a company is a ground for effective planning, management and control of all company’s processes then also for effective logistics or supply chain management

Physico-chemical properties of the system (LiF-NaF)eut-LaF3 – Phase equilibria, density and volume properties, electrical conductivity andsurface tension

    No full text
A detailed physico-chemical investigation of molten system (LiF-NaF)eut-LaF3 up to 15 mol% of LaF3 has been done. The phase equilibria were measured by two independent methods (TA and DSC) and consequently Calphad modelling and calculation was performed in order to interpret obtained experimental data. Additional physico-chemical properties like density, electrical conductivity and surface tension were measured. It was found that all investigated properties reflect the ionic changes in the melt providing consistent data, i.e. the most significant changes in these properties are observed at ca. 10 mol% LaF3. The volume propertieswere calculated, as well, providing information about volume expansion. Also temperature anomalous behaviour was observed for the electrical conductivity and surface tension
