Determination of technological parameters of saturated composites based on SiC by means of a model liquid

The paper describes a method for determining technological parameters of the formation process of saturated composites based on SiC by applying the theory of dynamic similarity. Empirical relations have been presented in terms of hydraulic analysis of the saturated liquid flow (liquid metal) and determination of the saturated composite density depending on the technological parameters of its formation process: saturation time and pressure. Adopting the method for determining the density of silumin composites reinforced with silicon carbide by means of Wood’s metal as a model liquid has been described. Microscope images of the composite structure have been shown after filling it with the model liquid. Remarks have been made on the application of the method

Stage T1c prostate cancer: defining the appropriate staging evaluation and the role for pelvic lymphadenectomy

A good staging system should be able to accurately reflect the natural history of a malignant disease, to express the extent of the disease at the time of diagnosis, and stratify patients in prognostically distinctive groups. The staging system for prostate cancer, as it is today, fails to fulfill these requirements. Approximately one third of the patients who undergo surgery for complete excision of prostate cancer in fact do not have a localize disease. The incidence of tumor at the inked margin may reach 30% for T1 stage and up to 60% for clinical T2b prostate cancer according to comparision with pathologic examination of resected specimen. Several concepts have been recently proposed as a means of improving the accuracy of the available staging system. In this paper, we review current aspects of clinical and pathological staging of prostate cancer, and the importance of these new concepts on the early stages of prostate cancer.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/47057/1/345_2005_Article_BF01300182.pd

A new records of Dermacentor reticulatus [Fabricius, 1794] in Lublin region

Background. The study about the distribution of Dermacentor reticulatus ticks in the Lublin region was conducted between 2004–2006. Material and methods. In the spring and autumn activity peak the parasites were directly collected from plants using the flagging method. In autumn 2005 the post mortem examinations of 33 dears shot by hunters were performed. Results. In total, 11 new sites of Dermacentor reticulates ticks were found, including three outside the south and west border of the Lublin province (Fig. 1). It seems that the change in Dermacentor reticulatus range is related to expansion and increased number of moose, the most important final host of the parasite until recently. Dermacentor reticulatus was observed in deep forest complexes and in the vicinity of human habitats. This fact may indicate an increasing role of deer and dogs as the host species

Attainment of sexual maturity by hybrids of rudd, Scardinius erythrophthalmus (L.) and carp bream, Abramis brama (L.) under experimental conditions

Background. In case of natural hybridisation of fish it is important to determine whether the hybrids attain sexual maturity and whether they can produce generation F2. The hybrids of rudd and carp bream, relatively frequent under natural conditions, have not been studied in the aspect of sexual maturity attainment.Materials and methods. Histological examinations of gonads of 4-5 year old rudd and carp bream hybrids were carried out in experimental environments during the pre-spawning and spawning seasons of the parental species.Results. In development of oocytes the female hybrids of rudd and carp bream reached the stage of migrating nucleus and deterioration of the morphological structure of the nucleus. In case of male hybrids the presence of spermatids was confirmed. The stage of spermatozoa was not observed in case of hybrids of rudd and bream. In case of the control species (rudd) that stage was also not observed. It is possible that the lack of that stage was affected by the parameters of the culture environment. Nevertheless, the sexual products of male hybrids of rudd and bream as well as rudd were deposited.Conclusion. The studies show that the hybrids of rudd and carp bream may reach sexual maturity in the natural environments

W pracy wykazano możliwość wykorzystania techniki termowizyjnej do diagnozowania kabli elektroenergetycznych ułożonych w ziemi. Uszkodzenie kabla zamodelowano grzejnikiem. Badania termograficzne powierzchni ziemi pod którą był zamodelowany defekt kabla wykazały jednak ograniczony zakres zastosowania z uwagi na zbyt dużą graniczną moc potrzebną do określenia śladu cieplnego. The article presents possible use of thermovision technique in diagnosing electro-energetic cables placed in the ground. The damage in cable condition has been demonstrated on an example of a heater. Thermographic study of the ground surface under which a modeled damaged cable was placed has shown limited application of the technique due to high limiting power needed to determine thermal trace
