Predictions for dijet production in DIS using small x dynamics
We study the properties of dijet production in deep inelastic scattering
using a unified BFKL/DGLAP framework, which includes important subleading ln
(1/x) contributions. We calculate the azimuthal decorrelation between the jets.
We compute the cross section for dijet production as a function of Q^2 and the
jet transverse momentum, as well as calculate the total dijet rate. We compare

Self-interaction chromatography as a tool for optimizing conditions for membrane protein crystallization
The second virial coefficient, or B value, is a measurement of how well a protein interacts with itself in solution. These interactions can lead to protein crystallization or precipitation, depending on their strength, with a narrow range of B values (the `crystallization slot') being known to promote crystallization. A convenient method of determining the B value is by self-interaction chromatography. This paper describes how the light-harvesting complex 1-reaction centre core complex from Allochromatium vinosum yielded single straight-edged crystals after iterative cycles of self-interaction chromatography and crystallization. This process allowed the rapid screening of small molecules and detergents as crystallization additives. Here, a description is given of how self-interaction chromatography has been utilized to improve the crystallization conditions of a membrane protein
High-Energy QCD Asymptotics of Photon-Photon Collisions
The high-energy behaviour of the total cross section for highly virtual
photons, as predicted by the BFKL equation at next-to-leading order (NLO) in
QCD, is discussed. The NLO BFKL predictions, improved by the BLM optimal scale
setting, are in good agreement with recent OPAL and L3 data at CERN LEP2. NLO
BFKL predictions for future linear colliders are presented.Comment: Latex, 7 pages, 4 figure
Mapping the proton unintegrated gluon distribution in dijets correlations in real and virtual photoproduction at HERA
We discuss how the dijet azimuthal correlations in DIS and real
photoproduction at HERA probe the differential (unintegrated) gluon
distribution in the proton. We find a strong dependence of the azimuthal
correlation pattern on Bjorken-, photon virtuality and the cut on the jet
transverse momenta. A rise of the azimuthal decorrelations is observed with
decreasing Bjorken-x due to the interplay of perturbative and nonperturbative
effects. We predict a strong rise of the same-side jet rate with photon energy
for real photoproduction. We discuss conditions for the correlation function to
be dominated by hard perturbative gluons and ways of constraining the size of
the nonperturbative soft component. We make some predictions for the THERA
energy range. The analysis of the energy dependence of the isolated jet and
two-jet cross sections in photoproduction would be a new way to study the not
yet well constrained unintegrated gluon distributions and to explore the onset

Phenomenology of the Electron Structure Function
Advantages of introducing the electron structure function (ESF) in electron
induced processes are demonstrated. Contrary to the photon structure function
it is directly measured in such processes. At present energies a simultaneous
analysis of both the electron and the photon structure functions gives an
important test of the experimentally applied methods. Estimates of the ESF at
currently measured momenta are given. At very high momenta contributions from
and bosons together with - interference can be observed.

Observation of Scaling Violations in Scaled Momentum Distributions at HERA
Charged particle production has been measured in deep inelastic scattering
(DIS) events over a large range of and using the ZEUS detector. The
evolution of the scaled momentum, , with in the range 10 to 1280
, has been investigated in the current fragmentation region of the Breit
frame. The results show clear evidence, in a single experiment, for scaling

Measurement of Jet Shapes in Photoproduction at HERA
The shape of jets produced in quasi-real photon-proton collisions at
centre-of-mass energies in the range GeV has been measured using the
hadronic energy flow. The measurement was done with the ZEUS detector at HERA.
Jets are identified using a cone algorithm in the plane with a
cone radius of one unit. Measured jet shapes both in inclusive jet and dijet
production with transverse energies GeV are presented. The jet
shape broadens as the jet pseudorapidity () increases and narrows
as increases. In dijet photoproduction, the jet shapes have been
measured separately for samples dominated by resolved and by direct processes.
Leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo calculations of resolved and direct
processes describe well the measured jet shapes except for the inclusive
production of jets with high and low . The observed
broadening of the jet shape as increases is consistent with the
predicted increase in the fraction of final state gluon jets.Comment: 29 pages including 9 figure
