Parazitofauna orangutanu (Pongo pygmaeus, 1760) ve vztahu k ekologickym a etologickym faktorum.
Information regarding parasites of orangutan wild population are very rare. Strongyloides sp. were documented in all articles with the highest prevalence. This parasite common in nonhuman monkeys and anthropoid apes can cause serious clinical disease and death at rehabilitation stations and zoos. Balantidium coli was documented as the other common parasite. During November1996 parasitological investigation of 20 orangutans living in the captivity within the frame of facilities of Singapore Zoological Garden was carried out. The parasitological study was primarily focused on the following parasites: Balantidium coli and Strongyloides sp. We detected these parasites: Balantidium coli, Entamoeba coli, Endolimax nana, Chilomastix mesneli, Strongyloides sp., Oesophagostomum sp., Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma sp., Enterobius vermicularis, and Ascaris lumbricoidea. The prevalence of parasites was higher in quarantine orangutans at the regabilitation centrum and ex-captive orangutans and in areas with intensive contacts with humans and in populations with higher densities, presumably because of the greater opportunities for infectious transmission. We didn't collect enough fecal samples from wild orangutan populations because of difficulties with collecting the samples, so our knowledge of the wild orangutan parasites in relation to their behaviour are fragmental and long term studies are needed.Available from STL Prague, CZ / NTK - National Technical LibrarySIGLECZCzech Republi
