Surgical Treatment of Pancreatic Cysts: Review of 21 Cases

    Get PDF
Twenty one patients with the pancreatic cyst on whom operation was given in our department from 1965 to 1984 were divided into those with the inflammatory cyst (16 cases) and with the neoplastic cyst (5 cases), and the surgical results were examined. The surgical formulas of the inflammatory cyst were further divided into 9 cases of internal drainage of the cyst into the gastrointestinal tract, 1 case of external drainage, and 6 cases of cyst excision together with the resection of the pancreas, and the results were rather satisfactory. On the other hand, the cases of the neoplastic cyst were divided into 2 cases of cystadenocarcinoma, 1 case of cystadenoma and 2 cases of mucinous adenocarcinoma. The contents in the cyst were all mucinous. It is considered that, when the contents of the pancreatic cyst are mucinous, its malignant potential is high. Since examination during operation is often insufficient, we have been trying to recommend resection so far as possible

Measurement of secondary ionization coefficient of CaO film electrode

    No full text
The secondary ionization coefficient γ of a CaO film electrode is investigated taking into account the difference in breakdown voltage obtained by repeated voltage applications. Such measurement is performed under a sinusoidal voltage of 0.5 Hz. If the CaO film electrode acts as the cathode, breakdown voltage gradually decreases and converges to an almost constant value after several breakdowns. From the obtained results, the γ of the CaO film electrode is determined for each breakdown using Townsend’s criterion. The γ in the first breakdown is lower than those in subsequent breakdowns, particularly in the steady state. The difference in γ is considered to originate from accumulated charges on the CaO film electrode

Formations of negative ions in Sf

Formation of negative ions initiated by interaction of thermal electrons and in the corona discharge (CD) in N2 with small admixture of SF6; was studied using the ion mobility spectrometry- orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometry (IMS-oaTOF) at atmospheric pressure. The negative ions have been analyzed by the ion mobility spectrometry and mass spectrometry (IMS-MS) and two-dimensional spectra (2D IMS-MS) have been recorded. We discuss the mechanisms of the negative ion formation in the N2/SF6 mixtures (0.003-0.018%) as well as the transport parameters of the ions in these mixtures. The values of the reduced ion mobilities of negative ions formed in these mixtures were determined (2.43 cm2/V s for HF2– (HF)n, 2.32 cm2/V s for NO3– (HF)n, 2.08 cm2/V s for SF5–, 2.01 cm2/V s for SOF5–, 2.00 for SOF4– 1.99 cm2/V s for SF6–, 1.83 cm2/V s for SOF5–(H2O)n and 1.73 for SOF5–(H2O)n(HF)m). The assignment of the ion mobility peaks was performed on the basis of the 2D IMS-MS spectra

Abstract Retrieval-By-Unification Operation on a Relational Knowledge Base

    No full text
This paper describes a method for retrieval-by-unification (RBU) operations, especially unification-join, on a relational knowledge base. The relational knowledge base is a conceptual model for a knowledge base. In this model knowledge is represented by term relations. Terms in the term relations are retrieved with operation called RBUs (i.e., unification-join and unification-restriction). To perform unification-join in the simplest manner, all possible pairs of tuples in term relations should be checked to see if each pair of terms in the tuples is unifiable or not. This would result in an extremely heavy processing load. We propose a method which involves ordering terms and, as result, omitting some pairs from this processing. The paper also de-scribes a method for implementing the unificaiion en-gine (UE), that is, hardware dedicated to the RBU op-erations
