The Two-Boson-Exchange Correction to Parity-Violating Elastic Electron-Proton Scattering
We calculate the two-boson-exchange (TBE) corrections to the parity-violating
asymmetry of the elastic electron-proton scattering in a simple hadronic model
including the nucleon and the intermediate states. We find that
contribution is, in general, comparable with the
nucleon contribution and the current experimental measurements of
strange-quark effects in the proton neutral weak current. The total TBE
corrections to the current extracted values of
in recent experiments are found to lie in the
range of .Comment: 3 pages, 2 figs, 1 table, talk given at International Conference of

A New Study of the Transition to Uniform Nuclear Matter in Neutron Stars and Supernovae
A comprehensive microscopic study of the properties of bulk matter at
densities just below nuclear saturation g
cm, zero and finite temperature and high neutron fraction, is outlined,
and preliminary results presented. Such matter is expected to exist in the
inner crust of neutron stars and during the core collapse of massive stars with
$M \gtrsim 8M_{\odot}Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Participant Contribution at the ``Dense Matter in

Birman-Schwinger and the number of Andreev states in BCS superconductors
The number of bound states due to inhomogeneities in a BCS superconductor is
usually established either by variational means or via exact solutions of
particularly simple, symmetric perturbations. Here we propose estimating the
number of sub-gap states using the Birman-Schwinger principle. We show how to
obtain upper bounds on the number of sub-gap states for small normal regions
and derive a suitable Cwikel-Lieb-Rozenblum inequality. We also estimate the
number of such states for large normal regions using high dimensional
generalizations of the Szego theorem. The method works equally well for local
inhomogeneities of the order parameter and for external potentials.Comment: Final version to appear in Phys Rev
The discovery of 12min X-ray pulsations from 1WGA J1958.2+3232
During a systematic search for periodic signals in a sample of ROSAT PSPC
(0.1-2.4 keV) light curves, we discovered 12min large amplitude X-ray
pulsations in 1WGA J1958.2+3232, an X-ray source which lies close to the
galactic plane. The energy spectrum is well fit by a power law with a photon
index of 0.8, corresponding to an X-ray flux of about 10E-12 ergs cmE-2 sE-1.
The source is probably a long period, low luminosity X-ray pulsar, similar to X
Per, or an intermediate polar.Comment: 5 pages (figures included). Accepted for publication on MNRA
