Thirty cats were divided into two groups: group 1 (owner-kept cats) and group 2 (stray cats). Group 1 consisted of 11 cats in which the vaccination status was up to date whereas group 2 consisted of 19 cats in which the vaccination status was unknown. Conjunctival swabs were taken from these cats for bacteria isolation and identification. Giemsa staining of the swabs was also conducted to identify Chlamydophila sp. Two cats in group 1, one male and one female Persian which had bilateral watery discharge, were positive (18.18%) for bacteria in their eyes. The male Persian cat was positive for Enterobacter spp. and Moraxella nonliquefaciens bilaterally. However, in both eyes of the female Persian cat, only Enterobacter spp. was isolated. In group 2, 11 domestic short hair stray cats had only Staphylococcus intermedius in their eyes which did not show any ocular discharges. Three cats in this group had bilateral isolation and four had unilateral isolation of this bacteria. Of the 30 cats studied, the most predominant bacteria isolated was S. intermedius (36.67%) followed by Enterobacter spp. (6.6%) and M. nonliquefaciens (3.3%). None of the 30 cats studied showed the presence of Chlamydophila sp. in their eyes and there was no evidence of eye lesions in these cats. It is believed that the S. intermedius isolated was normal conjunctival flora of the eyes of these cats. Enterobacter spp. and M. nonliquefaciens could also be the normal flora of the Persian cats, since these bacteria were isolated from their eyes in the absence of lesions but with ocular discharge that may promote the growth of these microorganisms

    Get PDF
Doctors have an essential role in healthcare service, and their quality of life (QoL) is crucial for their professional satisfaction and overall well-being. This study assessed the QoL among physicians and explored the influencing factors that affect it. This cross-sectional study was carried out using a self-administered Internet survey. The survey was focused on physicians employed at various hospitals and clinics in Egypt. Data on participants' demographics, work-related factors, and QoL were collected using WHOQOL-BREF. WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire measures a participant's perception of their life quality across various domains, including general health, physical well-being, psychological health, social relationships, and the environment. The scores for each domain are calculated based on participants' responses to specific items, with higher scores indicating a better QoL. The QoL scores were 3.57±1.02 for the general health domain, 12.93±2.49 for physical domain, 12.29±2.67 for psychological domain, 12.87±3.20 for social domain, and 11.00±2.58 for environmental domain. The overall QoL score was 3.64±0.835. The findings indicate a moderate QoL among the participating physicians. The physicians' QoL domains were affected by age, sex, education level, marital status, chronic disease, smoking, speciality, working hours per week, extra working hours, and work experience

Building Information Modelling (BIM): Contractual Issues of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Construction Projects

    Get PDF
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an emerging technology that provides a platform for a comprehensive digital representation of a facility to be created by integrating data from design conception until demolition. In seeking the optimum use of BIM, a large degree of cooperation and collaboration among multi-disciplinary contributors are required for the digital data exchange and sharing process to be deployed. This situation, however, brings up new issues in delineating liabilities and limitations of contributors as the demarcation line of each contributor becomes unclear. In Malaysia, there is no known BIM-enabled standard form of contract that preserves the intellectual property rights (IPR) of the BIM projects’ contributors. Therefore, the present study attempts to investigate the issues pertaining to IPR in the context of BIM adoption in the construction project. Qualitative methodology involving literature review, analysis of existing IPR provisions and semi-structured interviews with the experts were conducted. The research identified two major issues related to IPR in BIM projects: copyright ownership of the BIM model and data infringement. This paper is substantial to deliver knowledge to the construction industry practitioners regarding the legal and contractual considerations in the adoption of BIM

Results indicated that the perceived value of garden showcase at garden festival are good predictors of visitors behavior change. Thus, the most significant contribution of this study is a theoretical understanding with empirical results using the new factors of perceived value of garden festival, satisfaction and behavior intention to revisit and construct own garden in the contact of the modified TRA. This will be useful for garden festival organizers as well as marketing organization

Analysis of partial AZFc deletions in Malaysian infertile male subjects

    Get PDF
Complete deletions in the AZF (a, b, and c) sub-regions of the Y-chromosome have been shown to contribute to unexplained male infertility. However, the role of partial AZFc deletions in male infertility remains to be verified. Three types of partial AZFc deletions have been identified. They are gr/gr, b1/b3, and b2/b3 deletions. A recent meta-analysis showed that ethnic and geographical factors might contribute to the association of partial AZFc deletions with male infertility. This study analyzed the association of partial AZFc deletions in Malaysian infertile males. Fifty two oligozoospermic infertile males and 63 fertile controls were recruited to this study. Screening for partial AZFc deletions was done using the two sequence-tagged sites approach (SY1291 and SY1191) which were analyzed using both the conventional PCR gel-electrophoresis and the high resolution melt, HRM method. Gr/gr deletions were found in 11.53% of the cases and 9.52% of the controls (p = 0.725). A B2/b3 deletion was found in one of the cases (p = 0.269). No B1/b3 deletions were identified in this study. The results of HRM analysis were consistent with those obtained using the conventional PCR gel-electrophoresis method. The HRM analysis was highly repeatable (95% limit of agreement was -0.0879 to 0.0871 for SY1191 melting temperature readings). In conclusion, our study showed that partial AZFc deletions were not associated with male infertility in Malaysian subjects. HRM analysis was a reliable, repeatable, fast, cost-effective, and semi-automated method which can be used for screening of partial AZFc deletions
