Concentrations of trace elements in wild edible mushrooms

The concentrations of Cu, Cd, Co, Ni, Mn, Pb, Zn and Fe in 66 samples of mushroom fruiting bodies, representing seven species, mainly all edible, were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The mushrooms were collected from near roads and inner parts of forest and lawns in Bahkesir in the north western part of Turkey. The results indicate that the Fe level in the species Volvariella speciosa (Fr.) Sing. from near the road was the highest with a mean of 6990 mg/kg. The level of Ni was the highest in Clitocybe flaccida (Sow.: Fr.) Kummer, from near road with a mean of 3.32 mg/kg. Cu levels were almost similar for both areas within a range of 35-89 mg/kg in the different species. The Cd was accumulated mostly by Lactarius sanguifluus (Paulet: Fr.) Pr. and V. speciosa from near road with a mean of 1.60 mg/kg. Concentration of Mn, Pb, Co and Zn in L. sanguifluus from near road were the highest with means of 63.6, 7.66, 6.03 and 149 mg/kg, respectively. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd

ELECTRON-MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION FROM AMNIOTIC EPITHELIUM COVERING THE PLACENTA AND UMBILICAL-CORD IN CASES OF POLYHYDRAMNIOS AND OLIGOHYDRAMNIOS

Totally 25 cases without any fetal anomaly, 10 with polyhydramnios, 10 with oligohydramnios and 5 with normal volume of amniotic fluid were taken into consideration. Their amnion covering the placenta and umbilical cord were examined under electron microscope. In the group with polyhydramnios the microvilli facing the amniotic cavity were denser in certain regions. The intercellular space was widened and the terminal bars were opened. Within the cells the number of vesicles were increased and there were large cysternas within these vesicles. It was postulated that the large cysternas found in the basal and apical parts of the cell were composed of macropinocytosic vesicles of the basal membran. In the group with oligohydramnios the microvilli on the apical side were diminished. The intercellular space of the lateral side was narrowed. The electron density of the basal lamina was increased. The cellular structures were apparently reduced having just a few vesicles and lipid granules. Both in polyhydramnios and oligohydramnios the amniotic epithel cells covering the placenta and umbilical cord are responsible for the transfer of the fluid into the amniotic cavity. Possibly they control the amount of fluid by reducing or increasing its passage

WOS: 000329171500018In this study, an attempt has been made to determine macrofungal specimens collected from Kilis in 2006 and 2007. After field and laboratory studies, 47 taxa belonging to 17 families and 2 divisions were identified: 4 taxa belong to Ascomycota and 43 to Basidiomycota. Three of them, Inocybe taxocystis (J. Favre & E. Horak) Senn-Irlet, Russula laccata Huijsman, and Russula medullata Romagn., are new records for Turkey.Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [TBAG-104T236]We would like to thank the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for financially supporting this project (TBAG-104T236)

WOS: 000329918200018In this study, an attempt has been made to establish macrofungal specimens collected from Antalya between 2005 and 2009. After field and laboratory studies, 136 taxa belonging to 40 families and 2 divisions were identified. Twenty taxa belong to Ascomycota and 116 to Basidiomycota. Three of them, Cortinarius subferrugineus (Batsch) Fr., Entoloma vernum Lundell, and Inocybe piceae Stangl & Schwobel, are new records for Turkey.Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [TBAG-104T236]We would like to thank the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for supporting this project (TBAG-104T236) financially
