Performance of the ATLAS tau trigger during 2011 data taking period
Many models for physics Beyond the Standard Model predict an increased
production rate of tau leptons. Therefore hadronically decaying tau leptons
play an important role in searches for new physics at the LHC. By triggering on
them, the discovery power of ATLAS can be greatly enhanced for many Beyond the
Standard Model searches. In this contribution we present a brief description of
the ATLAS tau trigger system and demonstrate its robustness and reliability
during 2011.Comment: Poster presented at "XXXI PHYSICS IN COLLISION", Vancouver, Canada,

The UNIDO World Productivity Database: An Overview
This article introduces a new unique database, the World Productivity Database (WPD), which contains information on levels and growth of aggregate total factor productivity (TFP) for up to 112 countries, covering the period 1960 to 2000. At its core are numerous measurement methods, variations in functional forms and specifications â including schooling and health â of the production function, constant and variable returns to scale, as well as measures of technical progress and change in technical efficiency. In addition, five labour and four capital stock measures are used to derive a variety of TFP measures. Another significant feature is TFP forecasts for the period of 2001-2010.Productivity, total factor productivity, labour input, capital input, cross-country comparison
The Court of Claims and the Wunderlich Act: Trends in Judicial Review
Lawyers faced with government contract controversies can easily find themselves in a hopeless quandary. If the matter cannot be settled administratively, the course of judicial review is a unique and unfamiliar one, with a vast number of pitfalls-pitfalls whose size and location seem to change with each new decision rendered by the Court of Claims. This article attempts to exhaustively chart the pitfalls and the course to be followed for effective handling of a review. It is an invaluable aid to the practitioner
Why Development Levels Differ: The Sources of Differential Economic Growth in a Panel of High and Low Income Countries
Average income per capita in the countries of the OECD was more than 20 times larger in 2000 than that of the poorest countries of sub-Sahara Africa and elsewhere, and many of the latter are not only falling behind the world leaders, but have even regressed in recent years. At the same time, other low-income countries have shown the capacity to make dramatic improvements in income per capita. Two general explanations have been offered to account for the observed patterns of growth. One view stresses differences in the efficiency of production are the main source of the observed gap in output per worker. A competing explanation reverses this conclusion and gives primary importance to capital formation. We examine the relative importance of these two factors as an explanation of the gap using 112 countries over the period 1970-2000. We find that differences in the efficiency of production, as measured by relative levels of total factor productivity, are the dominant factor accounting for the difference in development levels. We also find that the gap between rich and most poor nations is likely to persist under prevailing rates of saving and productivity change. To check the robustness of these conclusions, we employ different models of the growth process and different assumptions about the underlying data. Although different models of growth produce different relative contributions of capital formation and TFP, we conclude that the latter is the dominant source of gap. This conclusion must, however, be qualified by the poor quality of data for many developing countries.

Finding Structural Information of RF Power Amplifiers using an Orthogonal Non-Parametric Kernel Smoothing Estimator
A non-parametric technique for modeling the behavior of power amplifiers is
presented. The proposed technique relies on the principles of density
estimation using the kernel method and is suited for use in power amplifier
modeling. The proposed methodology transforms the input domain into an
orthogonal memory domain. In this domain, non-parametric static functions are
discovered using the kernel estimator. These orthogonal, non-parametric
functions can be fitted with any desired mathematical structure, thus
facilitating its implementation. Furthermore, due to the orthogonality, the
non-parametric functions can be analyzed and discarded individually, which
simplifies pruning basis functions and provides a tradeoff between complexity
and performance. The results show that the methodology can be employed to model
power amplifiers, therein yielding error performance similar to
state-of-the-art parametric models. Furthermore, a parameter-efficient model
structure with 6 coefficients was derived for a Doherty power amplifier,
therein significantly reducing the deployment's computational complexity.
Finally, the methodology can also be well exploited in digital linearization
techniques.Comment: Matlab sample code (15 MB):

Palkanlaskennan työohjeistuksen ja vuosikellon laadinta
TÀmÀn opinnÀytetyön tavoitteena oli koota palkanlaskijalle työohjeistus vuosikelloon pohjautuen. Ohjeistuksen tarkoituksena on tukea uuden työntekijÀn perehdytystÀ, auttaa palkanlaskijaa hahmottamaan ja aikatauluttamaan palkanlaskennan tehtÀvÀt sekÀ toimia muistivÀlineenÀ itsenÀisen työn alkaessa. Ohjeistus toimii myös muistivÀlineenÀ kokeneemmalle palkanlaskijalle.
Teoreettinen viitekehys koostuu palkkahallinnosta sekÀ uuden työntekijÀn perehdyttÀmisestÀ. Palkkahallinnon tehtÀviÀ sÀÀtelevÀt lait, sÀÀdökset ja sopimukset. LÀhdemateriaali on kerÀtty alan kirjallisuudesta, verkkolÀhteistÀ, lakipykÀlista sekÀ viranomaistiedotteista.
Työohjeistus on jaettu eri osiin, jotta työnkuvan hahmottaminen helpottuu. Ohjeistuksesta nÀkee yksinkertaisessa muodossa mitÀ suoritteita tÀytyy tehdÀ minÀkin kautena. TehtÀvÀt on jaettu eri osiin riippuen siitÀ, koska ne tÀytyy suorittaa ja kuinka usein. Kaudet on jaettu palkkakauteen, kuukauteen, neljÀnnesvuoteen sekÀ vuodenvaihteeseen. Ohjeistuksen loppuun on koottu tiivistelmÀ tehtÀvistÀ kuukausitasolla. The purpose of this thesis was to put together work instructions for wages clerk based on the annual timetable. The purpose of these instructions is to assist the onboarding process of a new employee and also work as a supportive tool for the job itself. The instructions will also be helpful for a more experienced employee by, for example, working as a check list. Another purpose of these work instructions is to help a clerk based to better understand and schedule the tasks of a payroll.
The theoretical framework consists of the tasks of payroll and also of the onboarding process of new employees. The tasks of a payroll have been accumulated based on different kinds of laws, regulations, and agreements. The sources to support this thesis have been collected from the existing literature in the field, web-based sources, and laws. The same resources were also used for the work instructions, and on top of that, the authorâs personal experience as a wages clerk was used as support.
The instructions were composed into a more general form so that they would be applicable for every wages clerk regardless of the field one works in or the organization one works for. Organizations may have their own policies that affect payroll in practice. Different fields have different kinds of collective agreements that also affect payroll.
The instructions are divided into separate components to make it easier to understand the job description. Furthermore, tasks are divided into separate components based on the time period one has to complete the task. The instructions also include the payroll period, monthly, quarterly, and end the of year performances ratings. There is also a summary of monthly performances ratings at the end

Retinoskopi av katter : en validerande studie av undersökningsmetoden pÄ katt
Retinoscopy, also known as skiascopy, is an objective method for assessing the
refraction of the eye. This method has been used for a long time, both in animals
and human patients. According to the literature, it has been postulated that it is not
necessary to obtain cycloplegia before the examination in lower mammals. Some
authors even mention that it can make the examination more difficult. Therefore it
is not recommended. In this study of 21 cats of different ages, it has been shown
that cats can accommodate during the retinoscopy, even adult cats, which makes
the results unreliable. This implies that cycloplegia should be induced in this
species, for instance by application of atropine eye drops before the examination
