Application of Roland Barthes' Narrative Codes to Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone

    No full text
This paper aims to find out the utilization of Roland Barthes' narrative codes in Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone. The story of the novel is woven around these codes. Roland Barthes introduced these codes in 1970s, after a thorough study of the novel Sarrasine, written by Honore de Balzac. After the study, Roland Barthes made his own framework and named it, the Narrative Codes of textual analysis. These are: The Hermeneutic Code, The Proairetic Code, The Semantic Code, The Symbolic Code, and The Cultural Code. Roland Barthes' codes are part of Structuralism's approach. The story of the novel in the given study revolves around a girl named Alina Starkov. She saves the woebegone people of Ravka- a fictional city- from the influence of the Darkling. The researcher utilizes a Qualitative approach by exploiting the codes mentioned above to explore the text. The analysis discusses the findings with reference to the novel. Many quotations have been taken from the text of the novel to make the study and analysis genuine. The study is limited to a few extracts of the novel and it concludes that Proairetic and Enigmatic code is used more frequently than others. Language is used as a tool to manifest cultural code. While the semantic code is least used in the novel

An ultrawideband monopole fractal antenna with coplanar waveguide feed

    Get PDF
A novel ultrawideband fractal antenna in monopole configuration is proposed. Wideband behavior and miniaturization is achieved using concentric heptagonal array structure. Coplanar waveguide is used to feed fractal antenna. Base shape for fractal antenna is heptagonal geometry. Final fractal shape is achieved by performing four base shape iterations. FR4 substrate is used for antenna fabrication. Simulated and measured results comparison shows a bandwidth of 7 GHz with 9 GHz center frequency. Radiation pattern of monopole fractal antenna is omni directional. Fundamental purpose of designing and fabricating UWB fractal antenna is its application in body area networks for remote patient health monitoring. Its application also includes C and X band frequencies

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Tetrahydrocarbazole Linked 1,2-Diazoles in Aqueous-Brønsted Acid Catalytic System

A new series of tetrahydrocarbazole coupled 1,2-diazoles 4/5/6(a–o) in moderate to excellent yield was synthesized successfully via multicomponent reaction approach by adopting Michael type-addition of hydrazines on in situ generated α,β-unsaturated ketones via aldol type strategy under synthetic microwave radiations and conventional heating. Structural confirmations of all the prepared compounds were achieved by spectroscopic techniques. The best results were achieved when equal amounts of water-acetic acid were used in microwave conditions in 4 minutes
