First used in 2019 by the European Union, the double materiality concept raises questions for companies and academics. The purpose of our study is to show the extent of double materiality disclosure in the sustainability report of TotalEnergies, one of the top European companies included in the Integrated Oil and Gas industry. We used a qualitative methodology, content analysis. We find that most of the aspects related with materiality are vaguely presented. This is one of the first studies dedicated to the reflexion of the double materiality in the reports. Double materiality has the potential to help companies integrate sustainability into their internal processes. Our research has implications for standard-setters. We argue that there is a need for clear standards that will help companies contribute to the achievement of global sustainability-related goals

Corporate responsibility reporting according to Global Reporting Initiative: an international comparison

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an organization that has managed to impose its reporting practices on corporate responsibility among large transnational companies. The model proposed by GRI is based on the supposed convergence between the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. This convergence can be presumed at macroeconomic level, but at the level of enterprises, the three dimensions are often divergent. By analyzing the structure of reports included in the GRI database, our article aims to identify the factors that impact on company’s behavior in the corporate responsibility reporting process. In addition, our research invites to answer the following question: is it not possible that these reports attempt to exaggerate company environmental and social performance, rather than to cause a change in their conduct

For a long time, internal audit has been seen mainly as an activity of providing assistance to external auditors, especially by checking up accounting procedures as part of the internal control evaluation process. At present, while this role of the internal auditor has not disappeared, the role of consultant manager has gained primary importance. In this context, it is increasingly obvious that the professional profile of the internal auditor will undergo changes generated not only by the changes in the role that he or she fulfils, but also by the challenges that the business world needs to deal with: risk management, increasingly sophisticated information technology, data mining etc. This study relies on the information provided by The Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation – IIARF which includes data extracted from The Global Internal Audit Common Body of Knowledge – CBOK database, and it aims to point out the practices and trends regarding internal audit in Romania and worldwide, and, respectively, the competencies traditionally required from internal auditors, their views on the skills they master and on the scope of their further skill development

The paper aims to analyze the state of the accounting research in Romania, as compared to the other countries in Eastern Europe, as well as to identify the causes of the observed situation and its possible deviations in the research activity, respectively in the field of research evaluation. The Scimago database was used to carry out the research, which allowed the analysis of Romania's position in Eastern Europe in terms of the number of published articles, average number of article quotes and self-citations. The study of the specialized literature and the direct knowledge of some aspects specific to the Romanian academic life allowed to identify possible causes of the current situation, and also some behaviors, not always normal, generated by the enforcement of certain criteria for the occupation of didactic functions without a sufficient analysis of the Romanian realities, and even without any care to restore the traditional social role of the universities
