Creating motivational measures that are capable of enhancing employee job satisfaction is paramount to every organisation due to the fact that is brings about positive job attitude and also bring about perceived equity among employees in the workplace. However, the physical environment at which employee work is also believed to have a great deal on determining the level of employee job satisfaction, job attitude and perceived equity on performance of an employee. Therefore providing a conducive physical working environment is critical to organisations as it will further enhance job satisfaction, job attitude and equity which will result to higher employee performance. This study examines the impact of job satisfaction, job attitude and job equity on the performance of non-academic staff of Bauchi state University Gadau Nigeria with physical working environment as the moderator variable. Therefore, a total number of two hundred and seventy questionnaires were given out non- academic staff of BASUG using systematic random sampling and data collected is analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The result of the study finds that there is positive and significant relationship between job satisfaction, job attitude and job equity on the performance of non- academic staff of the University. The findings further suggest that physical environment negatively moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and employee performance while it positively moderate the relationship between job attitude and job equity on performance of the non- academic staff of the University. Therefore, the study will serve as a policy guide to the management of the University in areas relating to employee performance improvement and it will also further make an impetus the field of organisational behaviour and human resource managemen

Effects of instructional approaches, attitude, and gender on financial accounting achievement among secondary school students in Nigeria

The financial accounting achievement of secondary school students in Nigeria over the years has persistently remained not encouraging, especially in their national examination. This is due to the persistent use of the conventional teaching approach. Several studies in other subject areas have documented that effective instructional approaches have significantly improved students’ achievement. However, arguments exist in the literature that knowing students’ attitude towards a subject could help the teacher to use appropriate instructional approaches to address the students’ learning problems. Therefore, this study extended the work of previous studies by examining the effects of instructional approaches, attitude, and gender on financial accounting achievement among secondary school students in Nigeria. An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was adopted where a cluster sampling technique was used in the study. The quantitative data were collected from 240 students, while twelve students participated in the interview. The data collected were statistically treated using ANCOVA, multiple regression, and t-test, while NVivo was used in analysing the qualitative data. The results revealed that cooperative instructional approach is the most effective approach for teaching financial accounting to secondary school students compared to the demonstration, guided discovery, and conventional approaches. Students’ attitude towards financial accounting also has a significant influence on their financial accounting achievement, whereas students’ gender difference has no influence on their financial accounting achievement. By implications, the findings of the present study suggest that the government should encourage curriculum planners and financial accounting teachers of secondary schools to adopt the cooperative instructional approach as an instructional approach for teaching financial accounting in secondary schools to improve their students’ achievement in the subject. Furthermore, financial accounting students should be motivated, especially by their teachers to develop a more positive attitude towards financial accounting. This will also help in improving their achievement in the subject

This study is about the motivation and employee productivity of Bauchi state institutions. The idea of motivation is thus one of the areas that had tremendous contribution hence this study was conducted. The major problem facing institutions of learning especially in the developing world is the issue of withdrawal behavior i.e. employee turnover intention, absenteeism and lateness hence this study investigate whether such problems has any relationship with motivational issue. A questionnaire survey was conducted with one hundred and twenty questionnaires sent and eighty three filled questionnaires were returned. Analysis was conducted using the SPSS package to which the subsequent result of the correlations shows significant relationship between all the independent variables and the dependent variables except lateness which shows no relationship with the independent variables a multiple regression was also conducted and finally a discussion, recommendation and conclusion was made

This study was conducted to evaluate the most studied class among Fish, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds and Mammals in Nigeria. Data were obtained from the Web of Science core collection from 1970-2020 with the inclusion of each class (“Fish” “Amphibians”, “Reptiles” “Birds” and “Mammals”) and country (“Nigeria”) as the search terms. The most studied class, fields within each class (Web of Science subject categories), most cited article and author, and affiliation with most publication were identified and used to reveal the most studied class in Nigeria. The results show that the class Fish with a total 536 publications, is the leading research focuses, most studied and had the highest number of publications, followed by Birds (214), then Mammals (52), Amphibians (30) and Reptiles (25) which is the least studied and with the least number of publications. It can be concluded that research on Fish remained the hotspot, whereas there is a paucity of data and research on Reptiles. Attention should be given to the least studied classes i.e. Amphibians and Reptiles so as to achieve a balance across the vertebrate classes

Interprofessional Education (IPE) Activity amongst Health Sciences Students at Sultan Qaboos University : The time is now!

    Get PDF
Historically, health professionals have been educated in profession-specific institutions which provide limited opportunities for learning interprofessional (IP) skills. Many qualified practitioners are therefore poorly prepared for the challenges of IP practice (IPP). Patients today have complex needs and typically require more than one professional to address their medical issues and effective IP care relies upon health care professionals’ abilities to communicate with one another. Competent communication improves the quality of care, thus enhancing patient outcomes. The objective of IP education (IPE) is to prepare students to deliver IP care in the future. Sultan Qaboos University’s medical and nursing colleges train the future health workforce for Oman. However, students have no opportunities for collaborative learning. It is imperative that opportunities be created where students learn with, about, and from each other with the aim of improving the quality of care they are likely to deliver in the future

A series of experiments were carried out under glasshouse and field conditions, at the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM), Serdang (latitude 3002'N and longitude 101042'E), during the period January 1994 to December 1996. The main objective of the research is to study the nature of abscission of chilli flowers and to use plant growth regulators (PGRs) to improve fruit set and yield of chilli under heat stressed tropical conditions. Most of the flowers fall 3 days after anthesis. This suggest that flower abscission under heat stress is related to the ontogenic changes taking place in the flowers at this stage (pollination and fertilization). Pollen viability and pollen tube growth were not impaired by the stress. Also seed production and viability were similar under both glasshouse and open conditions. Electron microscopic observations revealed an abscission zone between the peduncle and the twig. The first morphological evidence of abscission by way of cell separation became visible at anthesis. Energy dispersive X - ray scan of this zone showed higher accumulation of Ca2+ relative to the surrounding areas. The visibility of cell separation at anthesis indicated that the process of abscission begun prior to pollination and fertilisation. Endogenous hormone analysis in abscising chilli flowers showed that peak production of ethylene and its precursor 1- aminocyclopropane- lcarboxylic acid (ACC) was at anthesis. Similarly, highest levels of indole acetic acid (IAA) were detected at this stage. The level of abscissic acid (ABA) increased with advancement of abscission. On the use of PGRs to improve fruit set and yield of chilli, naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), paclobutrazol (PP333), gibberellic acid (GA4+7), and triacontanol (TRIA) were applied to pot grown chilli plants. The GA4+7 treatment proved superior over other PGRs in flower count, fruit count, fruit size and total fruit yield. The yield increase following NAA application has not been consistent. The application of TRIA proved effective only in the open. PP333 application increased fruit set and gave the least recorded abscission. In addition this treatment gave yields that are comparable to other PGRs. GA4+7 and PP333 were selected for the next stage of the study
