J-GLOBAL ID : 200901048993785165This study aimed to re-evaluate the diverse values of Judo from the perspective of physical techniques. It also attempted to clarify the various values in the Budo in order to further advance Judo while embracing its local and global characteristics. The dilution of the culture of modern Judo is gaining attention as one of its problems, and the concepts of competition and victory are typical examples. However, the competitive nature of Judo is a valuable concept. Therefore, its traditional nature has to be maintained while including competitiveness. “Human development” is closely related to the tradition of Budo, and an attempt at “human development” is closely linked to the traditional idea of education in Japan. Thus, it clearly exhibits exposure to valuable concepts in conjunction with the learning of physical skills. In addition, it can be regarded as an activity that represents the culture of a “Path” that involves multifaceted growth at the same time. A discussion of aspects like that will also reveal some of the qualitative thoughts on traditional values unique to Japan.1520860078895597568application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape

J-GLOBAL ID : 200901048993785165This study aimed to re-evaluate the diverse values of Judo from the perspective of manner. It also attempts to consider the prospect of martial arts, which respects tradition but looks ahead to further development. Budo in modern society recognizes great value in competition. However, its maturity is different compared to that as a cultural entity. Therefore, the individual is immature as a Budo athletes. The way Budo adapt to modern society should be a culture that can include such athletes, and we need someone to guide them. Judo shows the methods and processes of education for various purposes. However, the goal of integrating those “Michi” is cultural excellence. Thus, Judo and other martial arts are systems that aim to develop maturity in cultural beings. Moreover, a new martial arts culture will continue to be created by the mature existence there. Therefore, the development potential of culture by the mutual relationship between humans and culture and universal value thinking at the core of that interaction are the traditional qualities of Budo. We will disseminate the structure and elements globally. Furthermore, efforts to popularize better Budo will be the foundation that will support the future development of the Budo.1520015653966844416application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape

A New Test for the Absorption Mechanism of GPS Radio Sources Using Polarization Properties

We consider the use of polarization properties as a means to discriminate between Synchrotron Self-Absorption (SSA) and Free--Free Absorption (FFA) in GHz-Peaked Spectrum (GPS) sources. The polarization position angle (PA) of synchrotron radiation at high frequencies for the optically thin regime is perpendicular to the magnetic field, whereas it is parallel to the magnetic field at low frequencies for the optically thick regime. Therefore, SSA produces a change in PA of 9090^{\circ} across the spectral peak, while FFA does not result in such a change. We analyzed polarization data from VLA observations for six GPS sources to see if such a change in PA was present. Our results indicate that there is no significant evidence for 9090^{\circ} change in PA across the spectral peak, suggesting that FFA is more likely than SSA for low-frequency cutoffs in these sources

We observed the narrow-line quasar SDSS J094857.3+002225, which has the highest known radio loudness for a narrow-line Seyfert~1 galaxy (NLS1), at 1.7--15.4 GHz with the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA). This is the first very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) investigation for a radio-loud NLS1. We independently found very high brightness temperatures from (1) its compactness in a VLBA image and (2) flux variation among the VLBA observation, our other observations with the VLBA, and the Very Large Array (VLA). A Doppler factor larger than 2.7--5.5 was required to meet an intrinsic limit of brightness temperature in the rest frame. This is evidence for highly relativistic nonthermal jets in an NLS1. We suggest that the Doppler factor is one of the most crucial parameters determining the radio loudness of NLS1s. The accretion disk of SDSS J094857.3+002225 is probably in the very high state, rather than the high/soft state, by analogy with X-ray binaries with strong radio outbursts and superluminal jets such as GRS 1915+105.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in PAS

We investigated the usefulness of Gafchromic MD-55 film (Nuclear Associates, Inc.) for measuring the radiation doses on the radiotherapy of laryngeal cancers. Since larynx has thin wedge-shaped structure in anterior neck adjacent to airway, the radiation doses to the lesion may be diminished because of build-up and build-down. So, the dose has been measured with conventional measuring systems such as thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD). However, it was not possible to evaluate the dose distribution correctly using TLD, because it is impossible to float a TLD chip in an air cavity. In this study, we employed Gafchromic MD-55 film as a dosimeter, for it can be set on the area of interest and with a measurability of dose range of 3 to 100 Gy, though it has no energy dependency. And this radiometer is composition near the soft tissue of the human body. The dose distributions to larynx were investigated with this film using neck phantom under each radiation beam energy of 4, 6 and 10 MV x-rays. Our neck phantom is made from acrylic resin and simulates a normal larynx on the basis of image information of computed tomography (CT). Moreover we observed secondary build-up and build-down curves in tissue in the vicinity of air cavities, especially at 10 MV x-rays. These findings suggest that patients with TI-T2 glottic cancers with anterior commissure invasion may receive more effective treatment with 4 MV x-rays rather than with 6 MV and 10 MV x-rays.
