    The regulation about the energy-saving thermal insulation of buildings consists of the following parts: Buildings to be constructed with normal indoor temperatures; buildings to be constructed with low indoor temperatures; constructional changes at existing buildings; supplementing regulations; requirements for the reduction of the annual heating energy demand of buildings to be constructed with normal indoor temperatures (Appendix 1); requirements for the reduction of the annual transmission heat demand of buildings to be constructed with low indoor temperatures (Appendix 2); requirements for the limitation of the thermal transmission of external components of existing buildings in case of the first installation, of replacement or retrofitting (Appendix 3); necessary insulation level in order to limit heat losses (Appendix 4).     The new Thermal Insulation Ordinance specifies a 30-40 % reduction in energy consumption as compared with the former version. This means that thicker thermal insulation layers must be applied. Hard foamed polyurethane is available in the thermal insulation categories 0.25, 0.30, and 0.35, which saves room space and opens up new design possibilities. This brochure describes the properties of hard foamed polyurethane and discusses its applications in inclined roofs, flat roofs, ceilings, walls, and floorsDie neue Waermeschutzverordnung bedeutet eine Minderung des Energieverbrauches von 30-40% gegenueber der alten Verordnung. Dies fuehrt zu steigenden Daemmstoffdicke. This publication reviews thermal insulation materials of hard foamed PUR on the basis of data acquired by the Association of Western European PUR producers (ISOPA).     This contribution describes the use of polyurethane (PUR) as an insulation material for flat roofs. The advantages of PUR are: low thermal conductivity, thermal behaviour and compressive strength. PUR rigid foam insulating materials are offered with aluminium surface layers with a thickness greater than 80 mm and in the thermal conductivity stage WLS 024. In the first part of this contribution, the architectural and building physical requirements from standards and technical rules are described: Energy Conservation Ordinance (EnEV), minimum requirements to the characteristics of rigid foam insulating materials, flame behaviour of insulating plates. The second part of this contribution describes the thermal insulation of ventilated and non-ventilated flat roofs (flat roofs with standard version, sanitation of flat roofs with PUR insulation, sloping roof, terrace roof, parking decks).     Sommerlicher Waermeschutz PUR - der Hochleistungs-Daemmstoff

    In this contribution, the Forschungsinstitut fuer Waermeschutz e.V. (Muenchen, Federal Republic of Germany) has investigated the consequences of different construction of high-peaked roofs on the room climate of an extended attic. The energy conservation ordinance and the standard norm DIN 4108-2 regulated the characteristic values of sun entry according to buildings with windows. The characteristic values of sun entry depend on several factors: intensity of sun irradiation, regional position of a house and the predominant climate, aeration, construction and heat storage behavior of the inside structural components. By means of thermal computer simulations, the influence of insulating panels consisting of polyurethane rigid foam and wood fibre panels in different constructions of high-peaked roofs on the room climate is investigated. The heat storage behavior of the different insulating materials used in this investigation have no influence on the temperature in the interior. In the modern architecture, great areas of the windows and glassworks become more and more popular. The buildings are brought in south direction more and more. In order to guarantee sommerly heat protection, suitable measures have to be taken. The protection devices against sun at the windows in southern direction are important considering a comfortable room climate.
