Ground-state stability and excitation spectrum of a one-dimensional dipolar supersolid
We study the behavior of the excitation spectrum across the quantum phase
transition from a superfluid to a supersolid phase of a dipolar Bose gas
confined to a one-dimensional geometry. Including the leading beyond-mean-field
effects within an effective Hamiltonian, the analysis is based on Bogoliubov
theory with several order parameters accounting for the superfluid as well as
solid structure. We find fast convergence of the ground-state energy in the
supersolid with the number of order parameters and demonstrate a stable
excitation spectrum with two Goldstone modes and an amplitude mode in the
low-energy regime. Our results imply that for realistic experimental parameters
with Dysprosium atoms, the supersolid phase is stable in the thermodynamic
limit and the transition into the supersolid phase is of second order driven by
the roton instability
Dimensional crossover for the beyond-mean-field correction in Bose gases
We present a detailed beyond-mean-field analysis of a weakly interacting Bose
gas in the crossover from three to low dimensions. We find an analytical
solution for the energy and provide a clear qualitative picture of the
crossover in the case of a box potential with periodic boundary conditions. We
show that the leading contribution of the confinement-induced resonance is of
beyond-mean-field order and calculate the leading corrections in the three- and
low-dimensional limits. We also characterize the crossover for harmonic
potentials in a model system with particularly chosen short- and long-range
interactions and show the limitations of the local-density approximation. Our
analysis is applicable to Bose-Bose mixtures and gives a starting point for
developing the beyond-mean-field theory in inhomogeneous systems with
long-range interactions such as dipolar particles or Rydberg-dressed atoms.Comment: 5 pages and supplemental material, revised treatment of the harmonic

Dynamics of solitons in the one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation
We investigate bright solitons in the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation in the
framework of an extended variational approach. We apply the latter to the stationary
ground state of the system as well as to coherent collisions between two or more solitons.
Using coupled Gaussian trial wave functions, we demonstrate that the variational approach
is a powerful method to calculate the soliton dynamics. This method has the advantage that
it is computationally faster compared to numerically exact grid calculations. In addition,
it goes far beyond the capability of analytical ground state solutions, because the
variational approach provides the ability to treat excited solitons as well as dynamical
interactions between different wave packets. To demonstrate the power of the variational
approach, we calculate the stationary ground state of the soliton and compare it with the
analytical solution showing the convergence to the exact solution. Furthermore, we extend
our calculations to nonstationary solitons by investigating coherent collisions of several
wave packets in both the low- and high-energy regime. Comparisons of the variational
approach with numerically exact simulations on grids reveal excellent agreement in the
high-energy regime while deviations can be observed for low energies
The Sustainability Data Science Life Cycle for automating multi-purpose LCA workflows for the analysis of large product portfolios
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a powerful and sophisticated tool to gain deep understanding of the environmental hotspots and optimization potentials of products. Yet, its cost-intensive manual data engineering and analysis workflows restrain its wider application in eco-design, green procurement, supply chain management, sustainable investment or other relevant business processes. Especially for large product portfolios and increasing reporting requirements, traditional LCA workflows and tools often fail to provide the necessary scalability. The Sustainability Data Science Life Cycle (S-DSLC) is a concept for workflow automation for multi-purpose LCA of large product portfolios. The concept integrates the frameworks of LCA, the cross-industry standard process for data mining (CRISP-DM), and the Data Science Life Cycle (DSLC). Key aspects of the concept are deep business-, stakeholder and user-understanding, deployment of LCA results in interactive browser tools (i.e. LCA-dashboards and Guided Analytics) tailored to the needs of individual roles and business processes, as well as the automation of data preparation, model generation and Life Cycle Impact Assessment based on modern data analytic tools. The demonstration of the concept shows substantial scalability improvements for dealing with large product portfolios and broad application of LCA results in various business processes
The SSTeP-KiZ System—Secure Real-Time Communication Based on Open Web Standards for Multimodal Sensor-Assisted Tele-Psychotherapy
In this manuscript, we describe the soft- and hardware architecture as well as the implementation of a modern Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) system for sensor-assisted telepsychotherapy. It enables telepsychotherapy sessions in which the patient exercises therapy-relevant behaviors in their home environment under the remote supervision of the therapist. Wearable sensor information (electrocardiogram (ECG), movement sensors, and eye tracking) is streamed in real time to the therapist to deliver objective information about specific behavior-triggering situations and the stress level of the patients. We describe the IT infrastructure of the system which uses open standards such as WebRTC and OpenID Connect (OIDC). We also describe the system’s security concept, its container-based deployment, and demonstrate performance analyses. The system is used in the ongoing study SSTeP-KiZ (smart sensor technology in telepsychotherapy for children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder) and shows sufficient technical performance
