Quasi-shuffle products revisited
Quasi-shuffle products, introduced by the first author, have been useful in
studying multiple zeta values and some of their analogues and generalizations.
The second author, together with Kajikawa, Ohno, and Okuda, significantly
extended the definition of quasi-shuffle algebras so it could be applied to
multiple zeta q-values. This article extends some of the algebraic machinery of
the first author's original paper to the more general definition, and uses this
extension to obtain various algebraic formulas in the quasi-shuffle algebra in
a transparent way. Some applications to multiple zeta values, interpolated
multiple zeta values, multiple q-zeta values, and multiple polylogarithms are

Curves of every genus with many points, I: Abelian and toric families
Let N_q(g) denote the maximal number of F_q-rational points on any curve of
genus g over the finite field F_q. Ihara (for square q) and Serre (for general
q) proved that limsup_{g-->infinity} N_q(g)/g > 0 for any fixed q. In their
proofs they constructed curves with many points in infinitely many genera;
however, their sequences of genera are somewhat sparse. In this paper, we prove
that lim_{g-->infinity} N_q(g) = infinity. More precisely, we use abelian
covers of P^1 to prove that liminf_{g-->infinity} N_q(g)/(g/log g) > 0, and we
use curves on toric surfaces to prove that liminf_{g-->infty} N_q(g)/g^{1/3} >
0; we also show that these results are the best possible that can be proved

59Co Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Studies of Superconducting and Non-superconducting Bilayer Water Intercalated Sodium Cobalt Oxides NaxCoO2.yH2O
We report 59Co nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) studies of bilayer water
intercalated sodium cobalt oxides NaxCoO2.yH2O (BLH) with the superconducting
transition temperatures, 2 K < T_c <= 4.6 K, as well as a magnetic BLH sample
without superconductivity. We obtained a magnetic phase diagram of T_c and the
magnetic ordering temperature T_M against the peak frequency nu_3 59Co NQR
transition I_z = +- 5/2 +-7/2 and found a dome shape superconducting phase.
The 59Co NQR spectrum of the non-superconducting BLH shows a broadening below
T_M without the critical divergence of 1/T_1 and 1/T_2, suggesting an
unconventional magnetic ordering. The degree of the enhancement of 1/T_1T at
low temperatures increases with the increase of nu_3 though the optimal
nu_3~12.30 MHz. In the NaxCoO2.yH2O system, the optimal-T_c superconductivity
emerges close to the magnetic instability. T_c is suppressed near the phase
boundary at nu_3~12.50 MHz, which is not a conventional magnetic quantum

Anisotropic magnetic fluctuations in the ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe studied by angle-resolved ^{59}Co NMR
We have carried out direction-dependent ^{59}Co NMR experiments on a single
crystal sample of the ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe in order to study the
magnetic properties in the normal state. The Knight shift and nuclear
spin-lattice relaxation rate measurements provide microscopic evidence that
both static and dynamic susceptibilities are ferromagnetic with strong Ising
anisotropy. We discuss that superconductivity induced by these magnetic
fluctuations prefers spin-triplet pairing state.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Weak Magnetic Order in the Bilayered-hydrate NaCoOHO Structure Probed by Co Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance - Proposed Phase Diagram in Superconducting NaCoO HO
A weak magnetic order was found in a non-superconducting bilayered-hydrate
NaCoOHO sample by a Co Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance
(NQR) measurement. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by
temperature shows a prominent peak at 5.5 K, below which a Co-NQR peak
splits due to an internal field at the Co site. From analyses of the Co NQR
spectrum at 1.5 K, the internal field is evaluated to be 300 Oe and is
in the -plane. The magnitude of the internal field suggests that the
ordered moment is as small as using the hyperfine coupling
constant reported previously. It is shown that the NQR frequency
correlates with magnetic fluctuations from measurements of NQR spectra and
in various samples. The higher- sample has the stronger
magnetic fluctuations. A possible phase diagram in NaCoOHO is depicted using and , in which the crystal distortion
along the c-axis of the tilted CoO octahedron is considered to be a
physical parameter. Superconductivity with the highest is seemingly
observed in the vicinity of the magnetic phase, suggesting strongly that the
magnetic fluctuations play an important role for the occurrence of the

We give explicit equations for the simplest towers of Drinfeld modular curves
over any finite field, and observe that they coincide with the asymptotically

General Report —Session IV: Dynamic Earth Pressures and Seismic Design of Earth Retaining Structures
Phonon and Elastic Instabilities in MoC and MoN
We present several results related to the instability of MoC and MoN in the
B1 (sodium chloride) structure. These compounds were proposed as potential
superconductors with moderately high transition temperatures. We show that the
elastic instability in B1-structure MoN, demonstrated several years ago,
persists at elevated pressures, thus offering little hope of stabilizing this
material without chemical doping. For MoC, another material for which
stoichiometric fabrication in the B1-structure has not proven possible, we find
that all of the cubic elastic constants are positive, indicating elastic
stability. Instead, we find X-point phonon instabilities in MoC (and in MoN as
well), further illustrating the rich behavior of carbo-nitride materials. We
also present additional electronic structure results for several transition
metal (Zr, Nb and Mo) carbo-nitride systems and discuss systematic trends in
the properties of these materials. Deviations from strict electron counting

Superconductivity induced by longitudinal ferromagnetic fluctuations in UCoGe
From detailed angle-resolved NMR and Meissner measurements on a ferromagnetic
(FM) superconductor UCoGe (T_Curie ~ 2.5 K and T_SC ~ 0.6 K), we show that
superconductivity in UCoGe is tightly coupled with longitudinal FM spin
fluctuations along the c axis. We found that magnetic fields along the c axis
(H || c) strongly suppress the FM fluctuations and that the superconductivity
is observed in the limited magnetic field region where the longitudinal FM spin
fluctuations are active. These results combined with model calculations
strongly suggest that the longitudinal FM spin fluctuations tuned by H || c
induce the unique spin-triplet superconductivity in UCoGe. This is the first
clear example that FM fluctuations are intimately related with

Anisotropic Superconducting Properties of Optimally Doped BaFe(AsP) under Pressure
Magnetic measurements on optimally doped single crystals of
BaFe(AsP) () with magnetic fields applied
along different crystallographic axes were performed under pressure, enabling
the pressure evolution of coherence lengths and the anisotropy factor to be
followed. Despite a decrease in the superconducting critical temperature, our
studies reveal that the superconducting properties become more anisotropic
under pressure. With appropriate scaling, we directly compare these properties
with the values obtained for BaFe(AsP) as a function of
