Educating adults towards color blind diagnostic among children through poster awareness campaign / Intan Nur Firdaus Muhammad Fuad, Sharifah Raudzah S. Mahadi & Nur Hisham Ibrahim
To identify whether a person has a color blind deficiency a test commonly used for this detection is Ishihara test, where the dots of the various colors are combined to form an object, letters or numbers. These tests are normally found in hospitals or institutions where patients undergo the test. Assimilation of skills needed to interpret the objects, letters or numbers are required to specify whether
the person has a color vision problem.1 The development of children's language can be seen in terms of the ability to receive, understand and produce. Children as early as one year often possess limited skills in interpreting objects but are difficult to interpret letters and numbers. Among the objects that can be interpreted by children are commonly surrounded by their environment and that repeat for the child to remember. It is known as cognitive (mental activity) of Jean Piaget's theory.2

who are not illiterate. Been aware on that issues Dr. Terrace L. Wagoner test the

easily been recognize by children. For example like ball, apple, star and etc., in the
form of dots of color. Dr. Terrace test also has been approved by a number of
ophthalmologists. These test however, only suitable for children aged 3 years and
above. 3
In Malaysia colorblind issue among kids are not commonly been
discussed. Rarely do we see Malaysian society, especially parents concerned about
this issue. Mostly color blindness is only detected when they are starting out to
express their opinions and their feelings. Parents and educators that are not been
educating by this inability, will make their children face this disabilities to deal
with it themselves
Health related quality of life among Iraqi immigrants settled in Malaysia
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Migrants everywhere face several demands for health and maintaining good health and quality of life could be challenging. Iraqis are the second largest refugee group that has sought refuge in the recent years, yet little is known about their health related quality of life (HRQOL). The study aims at assessing the HRQOL among Iraqis living in Malaysia.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A self-administered Arabic version of Sf-36 questionnaire was distributed among 300 Iraqi migrants in Malaysia. The questionnaire taps eight concepts of physical and mental health to assess the HRQOL. Univariate analysis was performed for group analysis (t test, ANOVA) and Multiple Linear Regression was used to control for confounding effects.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Two hundred and fifty three participants ranging in age from 18 to 67 years (Mean = 33.6) returned the completed questionnaire. The majority was males (60.1%) and more than half of the respondents (59.5%) were married. Less than half (45.4%) and about a quarter (25.9%) reported bachelor degree and secondary school education respectively and the remaining 28.7% had either a master or a PhD degree.</p> <p>Univariate analysis showed that the HRQOL scores among male immigrants were found to be higher than those of females in physical function (80.0 vs. 73.5), general health (72.5 vs. 60.7) and bodily pain (87.9 vs. 72.5) subscales. The youngest age group had significantly higher physical function (79.32) and lower mental health scores (57.62).</p> <p>The mean score of physical component summary was higher than the mental component summary mean score (70.22 vs. 63.34).</p> <p>Stepwise multiple linear regression, revealed that gender was significantly associated with physical component summary (β = - 6.06, p = 0.007) and marital status was associated with mental component summary (β = 7.08, p = 0.003).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>From the data it appears that Iraqi immigrants living in Malaysia have HRQOL scores that might be considered to indicate a relatively moderate HRQOL. The HRQOL is significantly affected by gender and marital status. Further studies are needed to explore determinants of HRQOL consequent to immigration. The findings could be worthy of further exploration.</p
Lactophorin in Camel Milk Undergoing Specific Proteolysis and Exhibiting Potent Anticancer Action against Human Colon and Breast Cancer Cells Through ROS Generation
Background: Camel milk has been recognized for its health benefits since ancient times and has recently been attracting increasing attention as a form of medical treatment for diverse human diseases. Studies on the health benefits of camel milk attributed its medicinal effects to nutritional status, but the molecular mechanisms of proteins involved in such effects remain unknown.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the anticancer properties of camel milk proteins (CMPs).
Methods: CMPs were fractionated into camel casein proteins (CCPs) and camel whey proteins (CWPs). The CWP exhibited the most potent anticancer activity against colon (HCT-116) and breast (MCF-7) cancer
cells. The CWP was further fractionated into cationic and anionic proteins using HiTrap cationic (SP-XL) and anionic (QFF) exchange columns.
Results: QFF-bound proteins (QFF-B) exhibited the strongest anticancer activities against both cancer cells. QFF-B proteins produced three peaks (P1~P3) on RP-HPLC, whereas P3 showed superior anticancer activity. The cytotoxic effects of CWP and QFF-B proteins are associated with increased production of intracellular ROS and subsequent apoptosis in both cancer cells. MALDI-TOF-MS identified lactophorin, glycation-dependent cell adhesion molecule1 (GlyCAM-1), and its three driven fragments as dominant peptides in QFF-B, while RP-HPLC-P3 contained two of them with molecular masses of 8080.3 and 9395.6 Da. The two peptides, both derived from the C-terminal of lactophorin, were the most representative peptides in the most active protein fractions (QFF-B and RP-HPLC-P3).
Conclusion: The results highlight for the first time that lactophorin is the major anti-cancer ingredient in camel milk and its unique C-terminal peptides present potential candidacy as anticancer agents in
nutraceutical and pharmacological applications
Modified technique for sacrospinous-sacrotuberous ligament complex colpopexy in apical prolapse: preliminary results of a pilot randomized study
Background: Apical prolapse is frequently encountered following vaginal hysterectomy either or as a primary finding in patients with pelvic organ prolapse. This pilot comparative study introduces a modified sacrospinous sacrotuberous ligament fixation with biologic mesh augmentation which necessitates no special kits to be performed.Methods: This study was conducted at Department of Obstetrics and gynecology, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, and Department of Women Health of Bethanien Hospital, Iserlöhn, Germany from March 2018 to May 2020. 40 women with either utero-vaginal or vaginal vault prolapse were randomized to either; group (A): 20 women scheduled for modified sacrospinous-sacrotuberous fixation procedure, or group (B): 20 women scheduled for conventional sacrospinous-sacrotuberous fixation procedure.Results: Improvement of the Pelvic organ prolapse quantification system (POP-Q) stage from the base line pre-operative stage was 1 stage higher in the modified SS/ST-F group compared to the conventional SSF group (3 stage improvement from baseline in SS/ST-F group versus 2 stage improvement only in conventional SSF group).Conclusions: This pilot study provides a modified sacrospinous sacrotuberous ligament colpopexy technique which is easier to be performed and mastered, does not need the use of special devices, provides better improvement of grade of prolapse and less complications compared to the conventional technique.
Incidence of Nosocomial Infection with Nasal Continuous Positive Air Way Pressure Versus Mechanical Ventilation During Treatment of Respiratory Distress in Preterm Neonates
Abstract: Objective: to determine the incidence of nosocomial infections in preterm infants with respiratory distress, if treatment with continuous positive air way pressure (CPAP) compared to treatment with mechanical ventilation (MV). Patients and Methods: Sixty premature neonates admitted to the intensive care unit in Al Galaa Teaching Hospital, in their first day of life suffering from respiratory distress, the infants were divided into two groups, 1 st group include 30 patients supported by CPAP and the 2 nd group include 30 patients who were supported by mechanical ventilation. Blood cultures and early endotracheal cultures were taken in the 1 st day of life from the sixty neonates in both groups then another late endotracheal culture was taken from them in the 5 th day of life. Results: 36.67% of patients in the MV group had +ve blood culture and 63.33% had no growth, while in the CPAP group 16.67% had +ve blood culture and 83.33% showed no growth. Early endotracheal cultures showed +ve growth in 63.33% in the MV groups a 23.33% in the CPAP group. (P=0.002), on the other hand late endotracheal cultures showed +ve growth in 36.67% in the MV group and 16.67% in the CPAP group. Klebsiella was the most frequent organism in all +ve cultures. Conclusion: The incidence of positive infection in blood cultures and endotracheal cultures is higher in the MV group than in the CPAP group. The incidence of klebsiella among the whole population in the two studied groups was higher in MV group more than in the CPAP group in all the cultures. Within the cases having positive cultures, MV patients needed longer duration on ventilation than patients on CPAP (whether the cultures were taken from the blood or endotracheal)

A Predictive Model for Steady State Ozone Concentration at an Urban-Coastal Site
Ground level ozone (O3) plays an important role in controlling the oxidation budget in the boundary layer and thus affects the environment and causes severe health disorders. Ozone gas, being one of the well-known greenhouse gases, although present in small quantities, contributes to global warming. In this study, we present a predictive model for the steady-state ozone concentrations during daytime (13:00–17:00) and nighttime (01:00–05:00) at an urban coastal site. The model is based on a modified approach of the null cycle of O3 and NOx and was evaluated against a one-year data-base of O3 and nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) measured at an urban coastal site in Jeddah, on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. The model for daytime concentrations was found to be linearly dependent on the concentration ratio of NO2 to NO whereas that for the nighttime period was suggested to be inversely proportional to NO2 concentrations. Knowing that reactions involved in tropospheric O3 formation are very complex, this proposed model provides reasonable predictions for the daytime and nighttime concentrations. Since the current description of the model is solely based on the null cycle of O3 and NOx, other precursors could be considered in future development of this model. This study will serve as basis for future studies that might introduce informing strategies to control ground level O3 concentrations, as well as its precursors’ emissions

The Malaysia DREEM: perceptions of medical students about the learning environment in a medical school in Malaysia
BACKGROUND: Students’ perceptions of their learning environment, by defining its strengths and weaknesses, are important for continuous improvement of the educational environments and curriculum. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore students’ perceptions of their learning environment, among medical students in Malaysia. Various aspects of the education environment were compared between year levels and sex. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Management and Science University, Shah Alam, Malaysia in 2012. A total number of 438 medical students participated in this study, and the response rate was 87.6%. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Comparisons of the mean scores of Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) subscales were calculated. The t-test was used to determine statistically significant differences. RESULTS: The majority of the study participants were female, Malay, and from year 3 (68.7%, 65.3%, and 55.7%; respectively). Analysis of each of the 50 items of the DREEM inventory showed that 47 items scored ranged between 2.00 and 3.00, and three items scored below 2.00. These were identified as problem areas in this medical school that are required to be critically addressed. The overall score showed that the medical students’ perceptions were positive. The students’ perception toward educational environment was positive for all five DREEM subscales. CONCLUSION: The study found that, in general, the perceptions of the participants about the learning environment were positive. Nevertheless, the study also found there is a need for curriculum improvement in this school and identified priority areas for such improvement
