Structural phase control of (LaNdSr)CuO thin films by epitaxial growth technique
Epitaxial growth of (LaNdSr)CuO thin films was
studied by pulsed-laser deposition technique on three different substrates,
SrTiO (100), LaSrAlO (001), and YAlO (001). The
(Nd,Sr,Ce)CuO-type structure appears at the initial growth stage on
SrTiO (100) when the film is deposited under the growth conditions
optimized for (La,Sr)CuO. This (Nd,Sr,Ce)CuO-type structure can
be eliminated by increasing the substrate temperature and the laser repetition
frequency. Films on LaSrAlO (001) maintain a LaCuO-type structure
as bulk samples, but those on YAlO (001) show phase separation into
LaCuO- and NdCuO-type structures. Such complicated results are
explained in terms of the competition between lattice misfit and thermodynamic
conditions. Interestingly the films with LaCuO-type structure prepared
on SrTiO and LaSrAlO show different surface structures and transport
properties. The results indicate the possibility of controlling charge stripes
of (LaNdSr)CuO as was demonstrated in
(La,Ba)CuO thin films by Sato et al. (Phys. Rev. B {\bf 62}, R799
(2000)).Comment: 5 pages, 6 EPS figure, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Optical Properties of Layered Superconductors near the Josephson Plasma Resonance
We study the optical properties of crystals with spatial dispersion and show
that the usual Fresnel approach becomes invalid near frequencies where the
group velocity of the wave packets inside the crystal vanishes. Near these
special frequencies the reflectivity depends on the atomic structure of the
crystal provided that disorder and dissipation are very low. This is
demonstrated explicitly by a detailed study of layered superconductors with
identical or two different alternating junctions in the frequency range near
the Josephson plasma resonance. Accounting for both inductive and charge
coupling of the intrinsic junctions, we show that multiple modes are excited
inside the crystal by the incident light, determine their relative amplitude by
the microscopic calculation of the additional boundary conditions and finally
obtain the reflectivity.
Spatial dispersion also provides a novel method to stop light pulses, which
has possible applications for quantum information processing and the artificial
creation of event horizons in a solid.Comment: 25 pages, 20 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL RASTER MOTION SENSOR
Background. Modern sensors as sources of information determine the level of quality of informationmeasuring
and control systems of complex industrial-technological objects, especially in such science-intensive fields as
power engineering, aviation, rocket-space technology, weapons and military equipment, etc. One of the tasks in the development
of rocket-space systems is the measurement and control of movements of mechanical systems. The existing
displacement sensors are not capable of simultaneous measurement of angular and linear movements. To solve this
problem a displacement sensor was developed, which has extended functionality and is able to measure linear and angular
movements simultaneously. Materials and methods. The amplitude-logic method of processing modulated signals
from a raster displacement sensor was used in this work. In the course of the work, a design diagram of a multifunctional
displacement sensor and a schematic diagram of the secondary converter were developed. Results. As a result of the conducted
research, the possibility of creating a multifunctional displacement sensor capable of working in a wide temperature
range of 20 Γ· 600 β, capable of simultaneously measuring linear and angular movements was confirmed
MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF A TRANSFORMER LINEAR DISPLACEMENT SENSOR
Background. At present, the efficiency of development and operation of modern automated systems of
control and management of various technological processes is largely determined by the technical and economic characteristics
of the primary transducers of information (sensors) among which the important place belongs to displacement
sensors. The mathematical model of mutual inductive linear displacement sensors underlying the calculation algorithm
developed on the basis of the solution of the boundary electrodynamic problem of interaction of a homogeneous alternating
field with an electromagnetic rod is considered. Materials and methods. The systems of Poisson's and Laplace's
equations with respect to the vector potential were used in this work. Results. As a result of this research, a mathematical
model was proposed, which was used in the development of the TDS designed to measure the movements of the solar
panels of a satellite vehicle in open space conditions
Complex conductivity of thin films measured by coherent terahertz spectroscopy
The complex transmission of Y_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu_3O_7 single crystal thin films
has been measured in the range 0.2-1.0 THz using time domain spectroscopy. The
complex conductivity is calculated without using a Kramers-Kronig analysis. All
of the superconducting samples show a peak in below . The
underdoped samples show a deviation from behavior above
that may be linked with the onset of a spin gap.Comment: 2 pages, REVTEX 3.0, figures upon request. To appear in Physica C,
and as a poster @ the M^2S-HTSC conference, Grenoble, 5 July 199
