Wzrost, plon oraz jakość owoców dwóch odmian borówki niskiej
The hybridisation of Vaccinium angustifolium with Vaccinium corymbosum has led to several cultivars which are also known as Lowbush or Half-highbush blueberry. The appearance, taste and chemical composition of their fruits are reminiscent of those from wild varieties of Vaccinium angustifolium. The research was conductedat the Research Station of the Laboratory of Orchard at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. The plant height, size, yield, quality and the chemical composition of fruits of Lowbush blueberry bushes (‘Emil’ and ‘Putte’) were determined. Lowbush blueberry bushes were planted at distances of 1.0 × 2.5 m in acid muck soil (peat) at the Research Station of the Fruit Farming Department in 2005. Six-year-old bushes were characterized by a relatively low height, 70 cm on average; however, ‘Putte’ cultivar plants were slightly bigger. They also rendered a higher yield, totalling to 1401 g over the 4 years of research. On average, 100 g of fruits were collected from one bush in the first year and 600–700 g in the last year. Moreover, fruits from these bushes were characterized by a higher content of extract, organic acids and polyphenolic compounds, among which anthocyanins constituted the largest group. ‘Emil’ cultivar fruits were bigger and firmer than fruits of ‘Putte’ cultivar.
The experiment was carried out in the years 2007–2008 in the Experimental Pomological Station at Rajkowo near Szczecin. In 2005 the plants of lowbush blueberry, ‘Emil’ cv. were planted in peat (acid muck soil), sawdust (previously composted), and cocoa husk substrate (a by-product from chocolate confectionary plant) at spacing 1.0 × 2.5 m. Plant growth, quantity, quality, and chemical composition of yield were assessed. No effect of substrate was observed regarding plant height tested in the substrates however, the bushes planted in peat and cocoa husk had bigger leaves and one-year shoots. Further, the bushes grown in these substrates yielded best and their fruits were largest, showed highest firmness as well as highest content of soluble solids, organic acids, and phenol compounds.
Influence of foliar fertilisation with calcium fertilisers on the firmness and chemical composition of two highbush blueberry cultivars
Maintaining the high quality of fruits after harvest, which amongst other things is determined
by firmness, is the aim producers strive after. Calcium, which fruits can be enriched
with also in an extraradicular manner, is mostly responsible for the mechanical resistance of
fruits. In the research conducted at the Laboratory of Orcharding, West Pomeranian University
of Technology in Szczecin, the influence of foliar calcium fertilisers on the quality of fruits from
two cultivars of highbush blueberry was studied. The firmness, size and chemical composition
of fruits were examined (the content of mineral and organic compounds, especially polyphenols).
At the fruit growth stage, bushes were sprayed 4 times with calcium solutions every 10 days,
starting from the first decade of June. All fertilisers caused an increase in calcium concentrations
in fruits (0.12-0.15 g 100 g-1), as compared with the control (0.09 g 100 g-1). The weight of
100 fruits collected from bushes sprayed with the Lebosol, Folanx and Calcinit fertilisers was
the highest and it ranged from 327 to 365 g, and the Sunrise cultivar fruits were larger. The
firmest (391 and 415 G mm) and the most resistant to mechanical damage (132 and 114 G mm)
were the fruits sprayed with the calcium chloride and Folanx fertilisers, while fruits sprayed
with Folanx and Calcinit were characterised by the highest polyphenol content (300 and 313 mg
100 g-1), and anthocyanins, among which delphinidin-3-galactoside predominated, constituted
the largest group of compounds (77-80%).
The Calcinit and Lebosol Calcium Forte fertilisers had the greatest influence on the change
of chemical composition of the fruits, while the Folanx fertiliser had the greatest influence on
the increase in fruit firmness. All calcium-based fertilisers decreased the acidity of fruits and,
except for calcium chloride, they increased the nitrite level
There was tested an influence of three biostymulants Atonik SL, Biochikol 020 PC and Tytanit on yield and fruits quality of three fruiting repeating Polish raspberry cultivars: Pokusa, Polka and Poranna Rosa during years of 2005–2006. These agents had a positive influence on fruits quality and yielding to all tested cultivars. The fruits with exception of Tytanit treated fruit especially in the beginning of harvest, were characterized by better firmness and were bigger. However, Tytanit treatment increased soluble solids content in fruits and reduced in Polka cv. nitrates concentration. Among tested cultivars, cv. Polka was characterized by the highest yield, that was of c. a. 50% greater that of cv. Pokusa, which was characterized by the gratest fruits sizes. The ‘Poranna Rosa’ shawed the least soluble solids and vitamin C content and had the highest acidity.W latach 2005–2006 określono wpływu trzech bioregulatorów, Atonic, Biochikol 020 PC i Tytanit, na plon oraz jako owoców trzech powtarzających owocowanie polskich odmian malin: Pokusa, Polka i Poranna Rosa. Żółte owoce Porannej Rosy zawierały najmniej ekstraktu i witaminy C i miały największą kwasowość
i zasobniejsze w substancje bioaktywne. W pracy określono wpływ sposobu uprawy krzewów
borówki wysokiej odmiany ‘Duke’ (konwencjonalnej i ekologicznej) na jakość plonu: wielkość
owoców, ich jędrność i skład chemiczny. Badania przeprowadzono w latach 2009–2011 w Pracowni
Jagody
zebrane z krzewów uprawianych konwencjonalnie charakteryzowały się większą zawartością
ekstraktu i azotanów.
zawartością związków polifenolowych, zwłaszcza antocyjanów i flawonowi. Owoce małe zawierały
również więcej kwasu chlorogenowego. An increase in ecological food is observed in Poland. Produce obtained from
ecological farms is perceived as healthier and richer in bioactive substances. The study defines
the influence of cultivation methods of high-bush blueberry, ‘Duke’ cultivar (conventional and
ecological) on the yield quality; size of fruits, their firmness and chemical composition. The
study was performed in the years 2009–2011 at the Pomiculture Department and a production
farm. The fruits collected at an ecological plantation were larger, there were also more large
fruits (> 12 mm) in the general yield. These fruits, however, were characterised by lower
firmness and lower resistance to mechanical damage. Berries collected from bushes cultivated
in a conventional manner were characterised by a higher content of extract and nitrates.
Regardless of the cultivation method, small fruits (< 12 mm), were characterised by greater
firmness, both along the height axis and the diameter and a higher extract content. Small fruits
and fruits collected from conventionally cultivated bushes were also characterised by a higher
content of polyphenolic compounds, especially anthocyanins and flavonols. Small fruits also
contained more chlorogenic acid
