A comparison of regression models for the ice loads measured during the ice tank test
To evaluate the time-domain positioning performance of arctic marine structures, it is necessary to generate an ice load appropriate for the current position and heading of the structure. The position and orientation angle of a floating body continuously change with time. Therefore, an ice load is required for any attitude in the time-domain simulation. In this study, we present a fundamental technique for analyzing ice loads in the frequency domain based on data measured at various angles in the ice-water tank experiment. We perform spectral analysis instead of general FFT to analyze the ice load, which has the characteristics of a random signal. To generate the necessary ice load in the time domain, we must first interpolate the measured data in the frequency domain. Using the Blackman-Tukey method, we estimate the spectrum for the measured data, then process the data to generate the training set required for machine learning. Based on the results, we perform regression analysis by applying four representative techniques, including linear regression, random forest, or neural network, and compare the results with MSE. The deep neural network method performed best, but we provide further discussion for each model
Fuzzy Study on the Winning Rate of Football Game Betting
This study aims to find variables that affect the winning rate of the football team before a match. Qualitative variables such as venue, match importance, performance, and atmosphere of both teams are suggested to predict the outcome. Regression analysis is used to select proper variables. In this study, the performance of the football team is based on the opinions of experts, and the team atmosphere can be calculated with the results of the previous five games. ELO rating represents the state of the opponent. Also, the selected qualitative variables are expressed in fuzzy numbers using fuzzy partitions. A fuzzy regression model for the winning rate of the football team can be estimated by using the least squares method and the least absolute method. It is concluded that the stadium environment, ELO rating, team performance, and importance of the match have effects on the winning rate of Korean National Football (KNF) team from the data on 118 matches
Preparation of TiO2 nanotube/nanoparticle composite particles and their applications in dye-sensitized solar cells
Efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells [DSSCs] was enhanced by combining the use of TiO2 nanotubes [TNTs] and nanoparticles. TNTs were fabricated by a sol-gel method, and TiO2 powders were produced through an alkali hydrothermal transformation. DSSCs were constructed using TNTs and TiO2 nanoparticles at various weight percentages. TNTs and TiO2 nanoparticles were coated onto FTO glass by the screen printing method. The DSSCs were fabricated using ruthenium(II) (N-719) and electrolyte (I3/I3-) dyes. The crystalline structure and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction and using a scanning electron microscope. The absorption spectra were measured using an UV-Vis spectrometer. The incident photocurrent conversion efficiency was measured using a solar simulator (100 mW/cm2). The DSSCs based on TNT/TiO2 nanoparticle hybrids showed better photovoltaic performance than cells made purely of TiO2 nanoparticles
EFFECTS OF MO, CR, AND V ADDITIONS ON TENSILE AND CHARPY IMPACT PROPERTIES OF API X80 PIPELINE STEELS
In this study, four API X80 pipeline steels were fabricated by varying Mo, Cr, and V additions, and their microstructures and crystallographic orientations were analyzed to investigate the effects of their alloying compositions on tensile properties and Charpy impact properties. Because additions of Mo and V promoted the formation of fine acicular ferrite (AF) and granular bainite (GB) while prohibiting the formation of coarse GB, they increased the strength and upper-shelf energy (USE) and decreased the energy transition temperature (ETT). The addition of Cr promoted the formation of coarse GB and hard secondary phases, thereby leading to an increased effective grain size, ETT, and strength, and a decreased USE. The addition of V resulted in a higher strength, a higher USE, a smaller effective grain size, and a lower ETT, because it promoted the formation of fine and homogeneous of AF and GB. The steel that contains 0.3 wt pct Mo and 0.06 wt pct V without Cr had the highest USE and the lowest ETT, because its microstructure was composed of fine AF and GB while its maintained excellent tensile properties.X1126sciescopu
User Equilibrium-Based Location Model of Rapid Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles with Batteries That Have Different States of Charge
A model was developed for the location of rapid charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) in urban areas, taking into account the batteries' state of charge and users' charging and traveling behaviors. EVs are one means of preparing for the energy crisis and of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To help relieve range anxiety, an adequate number of EV charging stations must be constructed. Rapid charging stations are needed in urban areas because there is inadequate space for slow-charging equipment. The objective function of the model is to minimize EVs' travel fail distance and the total travel time of the entire network when the link flow is determined by a user equilibrium assignment. The remaining fuel range (RFR) at the origin node is assumed to follow a probabilistic distribution to reflect users' charging behavior or technical development. The results indicate that the model described in this paper can identify locations for charging stations by using a probabilistic distribution function for the RFR. The location model, which was developed on the basis of user equilibrium assigmnent, is likely to consider the congested traffic conditions of urban areas, to avoid locating charging stations where they could cause additional traffic congestion. COMPARISON STUDY OF EXPERIMENTS AND PREDICTIONS OF WAVE KINEMATICS FOR ROGUE WAVE
To investigate the wave kinematics under the rogue wave crest, a series of experiments were performed in 2-D wave tank with the application of PIV technique to measure the velocities under the free surface. Three different prediction methods of linear extrapolation, Wheeler stretching, and modified stretching were applied to estimate water wave kinematics and compared with PIV experimental results under the highest wave crest of irregular wave trains satisfying with rogue wave criteria. Also, the cut-off frequency dependence for three prediction methods was investigated with varying spectral peak frequencies to estimate wave kinematics including velocities and accelerations in horizontal and vertical directions. It was suggested that the cut-off frequency for the reasonable prediction of the wave kinematics under the rogue wave crest could be chosen three times of spectral peak wave frequency for the linear extrapolation and higher frequency than four times of spectral peak wave frequency for Wheeler stretching and modified stretching method
A Toxicological Study of HangAmDan-B in Mice
AbstractThe aim of the study was to define the toxicity of HangAmDan-B (HAD-B) in mice over the short and long term. HAD-B was studied in 1-week single and 5-week repeated oral dose toxicity tests on male Imprinting Control Region mice. Doses used in 1 week single oral dose toxicity tests were 0, 0.2, 1, 5, and 25 g/kg/day and those of repeated toxicity test were 0, 0.04, 0.2, 1, and 2 g/kg/day. Blood and urine samples were assayed and their morphology observed. Numerical data were compared using Mann-Whitney U test and analysis of variance. Significantly decreased red blood cell levels in mice from S2-HAD-B, S3-HAD-B, S4-HAD-B, and S5-HAD-B groups were observed in single oral dose toxicity tests. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, and mean cell hemoglobin values in mice from the S4-HAD-B and S5-HAD-B groups were also significantly decreased. No mortalities or significant differences in all factors were observed during the dosing period of the repeated dose toxicity test. Administering 2 g/kg/day of HAD-B in mice over a 5-week period showed no significant hematological changes. However, risk of anemia with more than 5 g/kg/ day administration of HAD-B was found. In general, HAD-B appears to be safe and nontoxic, and a no observed adverse effect level in mice was established at 2 g/kg/ day. This data serves as satisfactory preclinical evidence for the safety of HAD-B should a future clinical trial for HAD-B be launched. Further studies are required to confirm these safety results and to carry out a safety trial in humans
Cigarette smoke exacerbates mouse allergic asthma through Smad proteins expressed in mast cells
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Many studies have found that smoking reduces lung function, but the relationship between cigarette smoke and allergic asthma has not been clearly elucidated, particularly the role of mast cells. This study aimed to investigate the effects of smoke exposure on allergic asthma and its association with mast cells.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>BALB/c mice were sensitized and challenged by OVA to induce asthma, and bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMCs) were stimulated with antigen/antibody reaction. Mice or BMMCs were exposed to cigarette smoke or CSE solution for 1 mo or 6 h, respectively. The recruitment of inflammatory cells into BAL fluid or lung tissues was determined by Diff-Quik or H&E staining, collagen deposition by Sircol assay, penh values by a whole-body plethysmography, co-localization of tryptase and Smad3 by immunohistochemistry, IgE and TGF-β level by ELISA, expressions of Smads proteins, activities of signaling molecules, or TGF-β mRNA by immunoblotting and RT-PCR.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Cigarette smoke enhanced OVA-specific IgE levels, penh values, recruitment of inflammatory cells including mast cells, expressions of smad family, TGF-β mRNA and proteins, and cytokines, phosphorylations of Smad2 and 3, and MAP kinases, co-localization of tryptase and Smad3, and collagen deposition more than those of BAL cells and lung tissues of OVA-induced allergic mice. CSE solution pretreatment enhanced expressions of TGF-β, Smad3, activities of MAP kinases, NF-κB/AP-1 or PAI-1 more than those of activated-BMMCs.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The data suggest that smoke exposure enhances antigen-induced mast cell activation via TGF-β/Smad signaling pathways in mouse allergic asthma, and that it exacerbates airway inflammation and remodeling.</p
