Adaptive identification of supply chain disruptions through reinforcement learning
Proactive identification and the management of disruption risks play a crucial role in the achievement of a global supply chain's aims. Given the velocity and volume by which such disruption events occur, it is impractical to expect supply chain managers to determine the occurrence of such events manually. Given the pressures facing global supply chains due to the COVID-19 crisis, it is important for supply chain managers to proactively identify disruption risks to their supply chains and manage them to either achieve the outcomes or develop plans by which resilience against them can be built. In this paper, we demonstrate how the integration of natural language processing and reinforcement learning, which are fundamental artificial intelligence methods, can be used to assist supply chain risk managers in the timely identification of such disruption events. We explain in detail our proposed approach, namely RL-SCRI and show its superiority over the current models in achieving its aim
E-Learning Readiness of Jordanian Universities
E-learning became very important to the universities success and it considered as one of the key success factors, in which it’s enhanced the competitive advantage and help in competing strongly in the market. Using Information technologies and sharing tools will add value to the educational process and by using these tools; the universities will have the power of innovation and creativity. E-learning helps in developing, managing and maintaining the students knowledge, on the other hand, it enhances the performance and learning capacity to remain innovation and competitive. This paper is measuring the readiness of the Jordanian universities for e-learning. It presents the main findings of a survey conducted to evaluate the e-learning readiness. The survey helped in analyzing three levels used for the measurement: ICT infrastructure, universities lecturers and students’ readiness, and the maturity of the external environment. Keywords: E-learning, IT infrastructure, Demand, External Environment, and HR readiness
Two Moving-Angled 1-Branes with Electric Fields in a Partially Compact Spacetime
In this article we consider two -branes at angle in the presence of the
background electric fields, in a partially compact spacetime. The branes have
motions along a common direction that is perpendicular to both of them. Using
the boundary state formalism, we calculate their interaction amplitude. Some
special cases of this interaction will be studied in detail.Comment: 10 pages, no figure, Late
The environmental benefits of investment in agricultural science and technology: an application of global spatial benefit transfer
Food security is a major current and future policy concern. The world population is projected to reach 9 billion by 2050 and continuing growth in economic output and incomes is expected to result in changing food consumption patterns. In particular the wider adoption of ‘Western’ diets will result in both higher calorie intake and greater meat consumption. Continuing climate change is expected to add further pressures to agricultural production. This paper presents the results of a global analysis funded by the TEEB study on the environmental benefits of investment in agricultural knowledge, science and technology, specifically in terms of closing the gaps between developing and developed country agricultural productivity. The results show that by easing pressures on land use change on terrestrial biomes (forests and grasslands), and the ecosystem services they provide, investment in agricultural science and technology provides environmental benefits of US2,964bn in addition to US5,68bnResearch and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,
Involvement of beta-3-Adrenergic Gene Polymorphism in Insulin Resistance in Iraqi Type 2 Diabetic Patients
A tryptophan to arginine substitution (TGG?CGG) in codon 64 (Trp 64 Arg) of ?3-adrenergic receptor is thought to be important for binding of noradrenaline and G proteins with ?3-adrenergic receptor in adipose cells. ?3-adrenergic receptor polymorphism may lead to a decrease in thermogenesis and lipolysis in adipose tissue. Therefore, an impairment of ?3-adrenergic receptor function may lead to obesity and insulin resistance. The present study was designed to estimate prevalence and association of ?3-adrenergic receptor gene T?C (Trp 64 Arg) SNP in insulin resistance type 2 diabetic patients in Iraq. To achieve this aim, 103 of type 2 diabetic patients and 57 apparently healthy control group were subjected to the study. The results of present study show that the heterozygous genotype (TC) of ?3-adrenergic receptor gene T?C (Trp 64 Arg) SNP was significantly increased (OR=4.12, CI 95% 1.14-15.86, P < 0.05) the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus four folds with respect to those of the wild genotype (TT). Also, the results revealed that significant increase (P < 0.05) in fasting insulin, HOMA, BMI and significant decrease (P < 0.05) in HDL-cholesterol of heterozygous genotype (TC) when compared with wild genotype (TT). Also, there are no significant differences in other clinical characteristics between wild genotype (TT) and heterozygous genotype (TC). The study concluded that ?3-adrenergic receptor gene T?C (Trp 64 Arg) SNP are associated and involved in the pathogenesis of insulin resistant type 2 diabetes mellitus. Association of Insulin Receptor Substrate-1 Gene Polymorphism with Insulin Resistance in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Iraqi Population
A glycine to arginine substitution (GGG?AGG substitutions) in codon 972 (Gly 972 Arg) is the common polymorphism of the IRS-1 gene. This polymorphism interfere with the interaction between IRS-1 and PI3-kinase. It participate in the development of insulin resistance and diabetes by impairing the ability of insulin to activate the IRS-1/PI3-kinase/Akt signaling pathway. The present study was designed to evaluate the association of insulin receptor substrate-1 gene G?A (Gly 972 Arg) polymorphism with insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus in Iraqi population. To achieve this aim, 103 of type 2 diabetic patients and 57 apparently healthy control group were subjected to the study. The results of present study show that the heterozygous genotype (GA) of insulin receptor substrate-1 gene G?A (Gly 972 Arg) SNP was significantly increased (OR=9.14, CI 95% 1.13-75.53, P < 0.05) the risk of type 2 DM by nine folds with respect to those of wild genotype (GG). The allele frequencies of G and A were 92.93% and 7.07% for the insulin resistant type 2 diabetic patients group and 99.04% and 0.96% for the control group respectively. Also, the results revealed that no significant differences in clinical characteristics between wild genotype (GG) and heterozygous genotype (GA). The study concluded that insulin receptor substrate-1 gene G?A (Gly 972 Arg) SNP are associated and involved in the pathogenesis of insulin resistant type 2 diabetes mellitus. ARPES studies of cuprate Fermiology: superconductivity, pseudogap, and quasiparticle dynamics
We present angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) studies of the
cuprate high-temperature superconductors which elucidate the relation between
superconductivity and the pseudogap and highlight low-energy quasiparticle
dynamics in the superconducting state. Our experiments suggest that the
pseudogap and superconducting gap represent distinct states, which coexist
below T. Studies on Bi-2212 demonstrate that the near-nodal and
near-antinodal regions behave differently as a function of temperature and
doping, implying that different orders dominate in different momentum-space
regions. However, the ubiquity of sharp quasiparticles all around the Fermi
surface in Bi-2212 indicates that superconductivity extends into the
momentum-space region dominated by the pseudogap, revealing subtlety in this
dichotomy. In Bi-2201, the temperature dependence of antinodal spectra reveals
particle-hole asymmetry and anomalous spectral broadening, which may constrain
the explanation for the pseudogap. Recognizing that electron-boson coupling is
an important aspect of cuprate physics, we close with a discussion of the
multiple 'kinks' in the nodal dispersion. Understanding these may be important
to establishing which excitations are important to superconductivity.Comment: To appear in a focus issue on 'Fermiology of Cuprates' in New Journal
