The Ministry of Public Instruction in Quebec, 1867-1875.

Quebec was the first province in Canada to establish a ministry of education. It did so in 1867. The experiment was short-lived. The present study is an attempt to account for that experiment in government and administration, to describe its scope and function, and finally to understand how and why it was terminated in 1875.
