Resource Sharing Among Engineering College Libraries Affiliated To Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala: A Proposed Model
There are around 150 engineering colleges (ECs) in Kerala
under the government, aided and self financing (S.F.) sectors. While
the college libraries in the government and aided sectors receive
several grants, the libraries of S.F. colleges are solely run by their
own funds. The rising costs of scholarly publications and strict
AICTE stipulations regarding libraries and their collection, pose
great difficulties to the libraries in all sectors in finding adequate
budgets to provide quality services. Library cooperation/resource
sharing helps to overcome this problem to a considerable extent.
The present study analysed the facilities and services of the
ECs affiliated to M.G.University, Kerala to identify whether there is
a need for resource sharing (RS) among these libraries. The
satisfaction of the users with their library resources and services
were also ascertained. The study put forward a model for RS and the
opinion of the librarians and users regarding the same were
collected. Structured questionnaires were used to collect the required
data.
The study revealed that a wide gap exist between the libraries
with respect to their facilities and services and many of the S.F.
libraries have better infrastructure when compared to the
government and aided college libraries. Majority of the respondents
opined that RS is necessary to satisfy their information needs. The
model of RS proposed by the study was widely accepted by the
librarians and users. Based on the opinions and suggestions of the
respondents, the study developed the potential model for resource
sharing- the Virtual Resource Sharing Centre (VRSC).Cochin University of Science & Technolog
Analytical Study of Typographical Errors in OPACS and Corrective Measures
The present study is an attempt to highlight the problem of typographical errors in OPACS. The
errors made while typing catalogue entries as well as importing bibliographical records from other
libraries exist unnoticed by librarians resulting the non-retrieval of available records and affecting
the quality of OPACs. This paper follows previous research on the topic mainly by Jeffrey Beall and
Terry Ballard. The word “management” was chosen from the list of likely to be misspelled words
identified by previous research. It was found that the word is wrongly entered in several forms in
local, national and international OPACs justifying the observations of Ballard that typos occur in
almost everywhere. Though there are lots of corrective measures proposed and are in use, the study
asserts the fact that human effort is needed to get rid of the problem. The paper is also an invitation
to the library professionals and system designers to construct a strategy to solve the issueCUSAT9th International CALIBER - 2013, INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, March 21-23, 201

Antagonistic potential of bacterial isolates associated with entomopathogenic nematodes against tomato wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp., Lycopersici under greenhouse conditions
Three concentrations of Xenorhabdus nematophila and Xenorhabdus spp., (4x10(5,) 4x10(6,) 4x10(7) cells/ml) were evaluated in the laboratory and in pot experiments to test their antagonistic effects on Fusarium oxysporum f.sp., lycopersici. All concentrations effectively inhibited its growth on agar plates. In soil under greenhouse conditions treatments with each bacterium at 4x10(7) cells/ml reduced the disease incidence of tomato by up to 40.38 and 47.54% respectively and there were significant increases of plant biomass by 198 and 211% respectively. The rhizosphere population of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp., lycopersici was reduced by 97%. The Xenorhabdus spp., was comparatively more effective than X. nematophila
