Extracting double-quantum coherence in two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy under pump-probe geometry
Two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) can be implemented with
different geometries, e.g., BOXCARS, collinear and pump-probe geometries. The
pump-probe geometry has its advantage of overlapping only two beams and
reducing phase cycling steps. However, its applications are typically limited
to observe the dynamics with single-quantum coherence and population, leaving
the challenge to measure the dynamics of the double-quantum (2Q) coherence,
which reflects the many-body interactions. We propose an experimental technique
in 2DES under pump-probe geometry with a designed pulse sequence and the signal
processing method to extract 2Q coherence. In the designed pulse sequence with
the probe pulse arriving earlier than pump pulses, our measured signal includes
the 2Q signal as well as the zero-quantum (0Q) signal. With phase cycling and
the data processing using causality enforcement, we extract the 2Q signal. The
proposal is demonstrated with the rubidium atoms. And we observe the collective
resonances of two-body dipole-dipole interactions of both and

Analysis of Terpenes and Cannabinoids in Hemp Oil by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry and Ultra-high Performance Liquid Chromatography
Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) were used to analyzed terpenes, fatty acids and cannabinoids in hemp oil, and the obtained data were analyzed by means of principal component analysis (PCA). The results showed that hemp oil produced in Yunnan contained rich characteristic flavor terpenes including β-caryophyllene, β-myrcene, and limonene. Also, it was rich in fatty acids; particularly the ratio of linolenic acid and linoleic acid was close to the golden ratio, indicating high nutritional value. Trace amounts of multiple cannabinoids were detected in hemp oil irrespective of cultivar or processing method. The content of cannabinoids in hemp oil was significantly reduced by dehulling, and cold pressing was more suitable for hemp oil processing. Moreover, this study discussed the safety of hemp oil for consumption in China and put forward some suggestions. Finally, four hemp oil samples were perfectly distinguished and identified by PCA
Genistein Exposure Interferes with Pharmacokinetics of Celecoxib in SD Male Rats by UPLC-MS/MS
Objective. To discuss the effects of genistein on the metabolism of celecoxib in vitro and in vivo. Method. In vitro, the effects of genistein on the metabolism of celecoxib were studied using rat and human liver microsomes. In vivo, pharmacokinetics of celecoxib was evaluated in rats with or without genistein. Fifteen Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomized into three groups: celecoxib (A group), celecoxib and 50 mg/kg genistein (B group), and celecoxib and 100 mg/kg genistein (C group). Single dose of 33.3 mg/kg celecoxib was orally administered 30 min after genistein ig. At 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 24 h after celecoxib administration, 300–400 µl blood samples were collected and the concentration of celecoxib was analyzed by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry system. Result. Genistein showed notable inhibitory effects on three microsomes. It affected pharmacokinetics of celecoxib in vivo experiments. Genistein had dramatically ability to suppress CYP2C9∗1 and ∗3. After pretreatment with genistein, AUC and Cmax of the C group were higher than B group. CLz/F of C group was lower than the B group. Conclusion. Genistein inhibits the conversion of celecoxib in vitro and in vivo. So, the dosage of celecoxib should be adjusted if it was used associated with genistein
Gender-specific association of body fat mass with muscle meat-vegetable intake ratio in Shaanxi, China
The effects of muscle meat and vegetable intake on body fat mass remain unclear in the general population. This study aimed to investigate the association of body fat mass and fat dis-tribution with a muscle meat-vegetable intake (MMV) ratio. In total, 29,271 par-ticipants aged 18-80 years were recruited from the Shaanxi cohort of the Regional Ethnic Cohort Study in Northwest China. The associations of muscle meat, vegetable and MMV ratio, as the independent variable, with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, total body fat percentage (TBF) and visceral fat (VF), as dependent variables were evaluated by gender-specific linear regression models. There was 47.9% of men whose MMV ratio was greater than or equal to 1 and this figure was about 35.7% for women. For men, higher muscle meat intake was associated with higher TBF (standardized coefficient [ß], 0.508; 95% CI, 0.187-0.829), higher vegetable intake was associated with lower VF (ß, -0.109; 95% CI, -0.206 - -0.011), and higher MMV ratio was associated with higher BMI (ß, 0.195; 95% CI, 0.039-0.350) and VF (ß, 0.523; 95% CI, 0.209-0.838). For women, both higher muscle meat consumption and MMV ratio were associated with all fat mass markers, but vegetable intake was not correlated with body fat mass markers. The positive association of MMV on body fat mass was more pronounced in higher MMV ratio group, with both men and women. The intake of pork, mutton and beef was associated positively with fat mass markers but no such as-sociation was observed for poultry or seafood. An increased intake of muscle meat or a higher MMV ratio was associated with increased body fat, especially among women, and such impact may mainly be attributed to increasing intake of pork, beef and mutton. The dietary MMV ratio could be thus a useful parameter for nutritional intervention
Expression Patterns and Functions of Cardiac Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor During Cardiac Development
Objective: This study describes the expression profiles and roles of cardiac pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) during cardiac development. Methods: Gene datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were used to analyze the correlation between cardiac PEDF expression and heart disease. Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, histological staining and echocardiography were used to assess the expression patterns and functions of PEDF during cardiac development. Results: Analysis of GEO data sets indicated that the expression of cardiac PEDF correlated with the occurrence and development of various heart diseases. Western blotting of various tissues in mice at 30 postnatal days of age indicated higher PEDF expression in the heart and aorta than the liver. Immunohistochemical results demonstrated that the expression of cardiac PEDF significantly decreased after birth, mainly because of a significant decrease in PEDF expression in the cytoplasm. Histological staining and echocardiography indicated that PEDF deficiency had no significant effects on cardiac structure, cardiac function and vascular hemodynamics in 8-week-old mice. Conclusion: Cardiac PEDF shows high expression and dynamic changes during cardiac development, but has no effects on cardiac structure, function and vascular hemodynamics

Is Increasing Diet Diversity of Animal-Source Foods Related to Better Health-Related Quality of Life among Chinese Men and Women?
Diet plays a crucial role in regulating individuals’ lifestyles and is closely related to health. The intake of animal-sourced foods (ASF) provides the human body with high-quality protein and various micronutrients. This study aimed to investigate whether the diversity of animal foods has a positive impact on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among residents. The data came from the Shaanxi baseline survey of the Northwest Chinese Regional Ethnic Cohort Study, which recruited more than 100 thousand participants aged 35 to 74 from five provinces between June 2018 and May 2019. A total of 39,997 participants in Shaanxi (mean age: 50 years; 64% women) were finally included in this current study. The animal source food diet diversity score (ASFDDS) was established based on the frequency of consuming pork, mutton, beef, poultry, seafood, eggs, pure milk, and yogurt. The physical component score (PCS) and mental component score (MCS), ranging from 0 to 100 on the 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12), were used to assess participants’ HRQoL. Better PCS/MCS was defined as scores higher than the 90th percentile. The results showed that men had a higher intake of ASF and ASFDDS than women. After adjusting for potential confounders, compared with those who never or rarely consumed animal foods, the likelihood of having better PCS and MCS increased by 16% (OR = 1.16, 95%CI: 1.01–1.34) and 24% (OR = 1.24, 95%CI: 1.03–1.448), respectively, in men with an ASFDDS ≥ 2. In women, a 34% increase (OR = l.34, 95%CI: 116–l.54) likelihood for better PCS was observed for an ASFDDS ≥ 2, but no association was observed for MCS. Increasing each specific animal source’s food intake was associated with better PCS after adjusting for all covariates. However, for MCS, positive associations were only observed in seafood consumption among men and eggs among women. Restricted cubic splines showed a substantial dose-response association between intake frequency of animal-source foods and PCS, both in men and women. The study suggests that a diverse intake of animal-sourced foods can potentially improve the HRQoL of Chinese adults
Molecular subtypes predict the preferential site of distant metastasis in advanced breast cancer: a nationwide retrospective study
ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore possible associations between molecular subtypes and site of distant metastasis in advanced breast cancer (ABC).Methods3577 ABC patients were selected from 21 hospitals of seven geographic regions in China from 2012-2014. A questionnaire was designed to collect medical information regarding demographic characteristics, risk factors, molecular subtype, recurrence/metastasis information, and disease-free survival (DFS). The cancers were classified into Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and Triple Negative subtypes. Chi-square test and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were performed to explore the associations between molecular subtypes and distant metastasis sites.ResultsA total of 2393 cases with molecular subtypes information were finally examined. Patients with Luminal A (51.1%) and Luminal B (44.7%) were most prone to bone metastasis, whereas liver metastasis was more frequently observed in HER2-enriched ABC patients (29.1%).The cumulative recurrence and metastasis rates of ABC patients at 36 months of DFS were the most significant within molecular types, of which Triple Negative was the highest (82.7%), while that of Luminal A was the lowest (58.4%). In the adjusted Cox regression analysis, Luminal B, HER2-enriched and Triple Negative subtypes increased the risk of visceral metastasis by 23%, 46% and 87% respectively. In addition, Triple Negative patients had a higher probability of brain metastasis (HR 3.07, 95% CI: 1.04-9.07).ConclusionMolecular subtypes can predict the preferential sites of distant metastasis, emphasizing that these associations were of great help in choices for surveillance, developing appropriate screening and cancer management strategies for follow-up and personalized therapy in ABC patients
Characterizing Acupuncture Stimuli Using Brain Imaging with fMRI - A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Literature
Background The mechanisms of action underlying acupuncture, including acupuncture point specificity, are not well understood. In the previous decade, an increasing number of studies have applied fMRI to investigate brain response to acupuncture stimulation. Our aim was to provide a systematic overview of acupuncture fMRI research considering the following aspects: 1) differences between verum and sham acupuncture, 2) differences due to various methods of acupuncture manipulation, 3) differences between patients and healthy volunteers, 4) differences between different acupuncture points. Methodology/Principal Findings We systematically searched English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese databases for literature published from the earliest available up until September 2009, without any language restrictions. We included all studies using fMRI to investigate the effect of acupuncture on the human brain (at least one group that received needle-based acupuncture). 779 papers were identified, 149 met the inclusion criteria for the descriptive analysis, and 34 were eligible for the meta-analyses. From a descriptive perspective, multiple studies reported that acupuncture modulates activity within specific brain areas, including somatosensory cortices, limbic system, basal ganglia, brain stem, and cerebellum. Meta-analyses for verum acupuncture stimuli confirmed brain activity within many of the regions mentioned above. Differences between verum and sham acupuncture were noted in brain response in middle cingulate, while some heterogeneity was noted for other regions depending on how such meta-analyses were performed, such as sensorimotor cortices, limbic regions, and cerebellum. Conclusions Brain response to acupuncture stimuli encompasses a broad network of regions consistent with not just somatosensory, but also affective and cognitive processing. While the results were heterogeneous, from a descriptive perspective most studies suggest that acupuncture can modulate the activity within specific brain areas, and the evidence based on meta-analyses confirmed some of these results. More high quality studies with more transparent methodology are needed to improve the consistency amongst different studies
Real-time Monitoring for the Next Core-Collapse Supernova in JUNO
Core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is one of the most energetic astrophysical
events in the Universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before
(pre-SN) and during the SN burst is a unique opportunity to realize the
multi-messenger observation of the CCSN events. In this work, we describe the
monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to the pre-SN and
SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), which is
a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector under construction in South China. The
real-time monitoring system is designed with both the prompt monitors on the
electronic board and online monitors at the data acquisition stage, in order to
ensure both the alert speed and alert coverage of progenitor stars. By assuming
a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system can be sensitive to
the pre-SN neutrinos up to the distance of about 1.6 (0.9) kpc and SN neutrinos
up to about 370 (360) kpc for a progenitor mass of 30 for the case
of normal (inverted) mass ordering. The pointing ability of the CCSN is
evaluated by using the accumulated event anisotropy of the inverse beta decay
interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos, which, along with the early alert,
can play important roles for the followup multi-messenger observations of the
next Galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figure
