3D Human Pose Estimation via Intuitive Physics

    Get PDF
Estimating 3D humans from images often produces implausible bodies that lean, float, or penetrate the floor. Such methods ignore the fact that bodies are typically supported by the scene. A physics engine can be used to enforce physical plausibility, but these are not differentiable, rely on unrealistic proxy bodies, and are difficult to integrate into existing optimization and learning frameworks. In contrast, we exploit novel intuitive-physics (IP) terms that can be inferred from a 3D SMPL body interacting with the scene. Inspired by biomechanics, we infer the pressure heatmap on the body, the Center of Pressure (CoP) from the heatmap, and the SMPL body's Center of Mass (CoM). With these, we develop IPMAN, to estimate a 3D body from a color image in a "stable" configuration by encouraging plausible floor contact and overlapping CoP and CoM. Our IP terms are intuitive, easy to implement, fast to compute, differentiable, and can be integrated into existing optimization and regression methods. We evaluate IPMAN on standard datasets and MoYo, a new dataset with synchronized multi-view images, ground-truth 3D bodies with complex poses, body-floor contact, CoM and pressure. IPMAN produces more plausible results than the state of the art, improving accuracy for static poses, while not hurting dynamic ones. Universal flow diagram for the magnetoconductance in disordered GaAs layers

The temperature driven flow lines of the diagonal and Hall magnetoconductance data (G_{xx},G_{xy}) are studied in heavily Si-doped, disordered GaAs layers with different thicknesses. The flow lines are quantitatively well described by a recent universal scaling theory developed for the case of duality symmetry. The separatrix G_{xy}=1 (in units e^2/h) separates an insulating state from a spin-degenerate quantum Hall effect (QHE) state. The merging into the insulator or the QHE state at low temperatures happens along a semicircle separatrix G_{xx}^2+(G_{xy}-1)^2=1 which is divided by an unstable fixed point at (G_{xx},G_{xy})=(1,1).Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Higgs-mediated leptonic decays of B_s and B_d mesons as probes of supersymmetry

    Get PDF
If tan(beta) is large, down-type quark mass matrices and Yukawa couplings cannot be simultaneously diagonalized, and flavour violating couplings of the neutral Higgs bosons are induced at the 1-loop level. These couplings lead to Higgs-mediated contributions to the decays B_s -> mu+ mu- and B_d -> tau+ tau-, at a level that might be of interest for the current Tevatron run, or possibly, at B-factories. We evaluate the branching ratios for these decays within the framework of minimal gravity-, gauge- and anomaly-mediated SUSY breaking models, and also in SU(5) supergravity models with non-universal gaugino mass parameters at the GUT scale. We find that the contribution from gluino loops, which seems to have been left out in recent phenomenological analyses, is significant. We explore how the branching fraction varies in these models, emphasizing parameter regions consistent with other observations.Comment: Revised to accommodate minor changes in original text and update reference

Born-Infeld Type Phantom Model in the ωω\omega-\omega' Plane

In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of Born-Infeld(B-I) phantom model in the ωω\omega-\omega' plane, which is defined by the equation of state parameter for the dark energy and its derivative with respect to NN(the logarithm of the scale factor aa). We find the scalar field equation of motion in ωω\omega-\omega' plane, and show mathematically the property of attractor solutions which correspond to ωϕ1\omega_\phi\sim-1, Ωϕ=1\Omega_\phi=1, which avoid the "Big rip" problem and meets the current observations well.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, some references adde

SU(5) Unified Theories from Intersecting Branes

We discuss the first string theory examples of three generation non-supersymmetric SU(5) and {\em flipped} SU(5) GUTS, which break to the Standard model at low energy, without extra matter and/or gauge group factors. Our GUT examples are based on IIA Z3Z_3 orientifolds with D6-branes intersecting at non-trivial angles. These theories necessarily satisfy RR tadpoles and are free of NSNS tadpoles as the complex structure moduli are frozen (even though a dilaton tadpole remains) to discrete values. We identify appropriately the bifundamental Higgses responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. In this way, the neutrino see-saw mechanism get nicely realized in these constructions. Moreover, as baryon number is not a gauged symmetry gauge mediated dimension six operators do contribute to proton decay; however proton lifetime may be safely enhanced by appropriately choosing a high GUT scale. An accompanying natural doublet-triplet splitting guarantees the suppression of scalar mediated proton decay modes and the stability of triplet scalar masses against higher dimensional non-renormalizable operators.Comment: 26 pages, 5 figures; no changes, one comment added in the introductio

b-physics signals of the lightest CP-odd Higgs in the NMSSM at large tan beta

We investigate the low energy phenomenology of the lighter pseudoscalar A10A_1^0 in the NMSSM. The A10A_1^0 mass can naturally be small due to a global U(1)RU(1)_R symmetry of the Higgs potential, which is only broken by trilinear soft terms. The A10A_1^0 mass is further protected from renormalization group effects in the large tanβ\tan \beta limit. We calculate the bsA10b \to s A_1^0 amplitude at leading order in tanβ\tan \beta and work out the contributions to rare KK, BB and radiative Υ\Upsilon-decays and BBˉB -\bar B mixing. We obtain constraints on the A10A_1^0 mass and couplings and show that masses down to O(10){\cal{O}}(10) MeV are allowed. The bb-physics phenomenology of the NMSSM differs from the MSSM in the appearance of sizeable renormalization effects from neutral Higgses to the photon and gluon dipole operators and the breakdown of the MSSM correlation between the Bsμ+μB_s \to \mu^+ \mu^- branching ratio and BsBˉsB_s - \bar B_s mixing. For A10A_1^0 masses above the tau threshold the A10A_1^0 can be searched for in bsτ+τb \to s \tau^+ \tau^- processes with branching ratios \lsim 10^{-3}.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures; references adde

    Lepton polarization correlations in BKττ+B \to K^* \tau^- \tau^+

    Get PDF
In this work we will study the polarizations of both leptons (τ\tau) in the decay channel BKττ+B\to K^* \tau^- \tau^+. In the case of the dileptonic inclusive decay BK+B\to K^* \ell^- \ell^+, where apart from the polarization asymmetries of single lepton \ell, one can also observe the polarization asymmetries of both leptons simultaneously. If this sort of measurement is possible then we can have, apart from decay rate, FB asymmetry and the six single lepton polarization asymmetries (three each for \ell^- and +\ell^+), nine more double polarization asymmetries. This will give us a very useful tool in more strict testing of SM and the physics beyond. We discuss the double polarization asymmetries of τ\tau leptons in the decay mode BKττ+B\to K^* \tau^- \tau^+ within the SM and the Minimal Supersymmetric extensions of it.Comment: 21 pages, 21 figures; version to match paper to appear in PR

An attempt to understand exclusive pi+ electroproduction

Hard exclusive pi+ electroproduction is investigated within the handbag approach. The prominent role of the pion-pole contribution is demonstrated. It is also shown that the experimental data require a twist-3 effect which ensues from the helicity-flip generalized parton distribution H_T and the twist-3 pion wave function. The results calculated from this handbag approach are compared in detail with the experimental data on cross sections and spin asymmetries measured with a polarized target. It is also commented on consequences of this approach for exclusive \pi^0 and vector-meson electroproduction.Comment: 35 pages, 12 figures, using Latex, a number of additional comments have been included in the text, e.g. in paragraph above (3) or at end of sect.

Pseudoscalar Higgs boson production associated with a single bottom quark at hadron colliders

We compute the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) SUSY-QCD corrections for the associated production of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson with a bottom quark via bottom-gluon fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Fermilab Tevatron. We find that the NLO QCD correction in the MSSM reaches 4040%\sim50% at the LHC and 4545%\sim80% at the Tevatron in our chosen parameter space

    From QFT to DCC

A quantum field theoretical model for the dynamics of the disoriented chiral condensate is presented. A unified approach to relate the quantum field theory directly to the formation, decay and signals of the DCC and its evolution is taken. We use a background field analysis of the O(4) sigma model keeping one-loop quantum corrections (quadratic order in the fluctuations). An evolution of the quantum fluctuations in an external, expanding metric which simulates the expansion of the plasma, is carried out. We examine, in detail, the amplification of the low momentum pion modes with two competing effects, the expansion rate of the plasma and the transition rate of the vacuum configuration from a metastable state into a stable state. We show the effect of DCC formation on the multiplicity distributions and the Bose-Einstein correlations.Comment: 34 pages, 10 figure
