    A sulfur/graphene oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotube (S/GO/MWNT) composite was synthesized via a simple ultrasonic mixing method followed by heat treatment. By taking advantage of this solution-based self-assembly synthesis route, poisonous and noxious reagents and complicated fabrication processes are rendered unnecessary, thereby simplifying its manufacturing and decreasing the cost of the final product.     Single-port laparoscopic sacrospinous ligament suspension via the natural vaginal cavity (SvNOTES) for pelvic prolapse: The first feasibility study

    ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the feasibility and short-term efficacy of single-port laparoscopic-assisted transvaginal natural cavity endoscopic sacrospinous ligament suspensions (SvNOTES).MethodsA total of 30 patients diagnosed with anterior or/and middle pelvic organ prolapse Stages III and IV underwent natural vaginal cavity (SvNOTES), and 30 patients who underwent conventional sacrospinous ligament (SSLF) were used as a control group. The operation time, blood loss, postoperative POP-Q score, length of hospital stay, and complications were compared between the two groups.ResultsThe operation time for SvNOTE was (60 ± 13) min, which was longer than (30 ± 15) min for SSLF (P = 0.04). However, the bleeding amount in SvNOTE was 29.44 ± 2.56, significantly lower than that in the SSLF group (80 ± 10; P = 0.02), and the postoperative hospital stay in the SvNOTE group was (4 ± 2) days, longer than (3 ± 1) days in SSLF (P = 0.02). However, there were no intraoperative complications in the SvNOTE group, whereas one ureteral injury occurred in the SSLF group; in addition, the postoperative POP-Q score was significantly better in the SvNOTE group than that in the SSLF group with increasing time (P < 0.001).ConclusionCompared with SSLF, single-port laparoscopic sacrospinous ligament suspension via the natural vaginal cavity is visualized, greatly improving the success rate of sacrospinous ligament fixation, with less blood loss and fewer complications, arguably a safer and minimally invasive surgical approach

    The impact of Chinese COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of peripheral facial nerve paralysis after optimizing policies

    ObjectiveTo evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the occurrence of Peripheral Facial Nerve Paralysis (PFNP) in Chinese patients, identify contributing factors, and explore the relationship between COVID-19 and PFNP.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective study covering the years 2020 to 2023, categorizing patients into three groups based on their visit dates: Group 1 (December 8, 2020 to February 28, 2021), Group 2 (December 8, 2021 to February 28, 2022), and Group 3 (December 8, 2022 to February 28, 2023). We collected and compared data on disease onset and patient characteristics among these groups.ResultsIn Group 3, following the widespread COVID-19 outbreak, there was a significant increase of 22.4 and 12.1% in PFNP cases compared to the same periods in the preceding 2 years (p < 0.001). Group 3 patients were more likely to be aged between 30 and 60 years, experience onset within 7 days, present with Hunter syndrome, and have a higher H-B score of VI compared to the previous 2 years (p < 0.017). Logistic regression analysis revealed a strong association between the COVID-19 pandemic and the incidence of Hunter syndrome in PFNP (OR = 3.30, 95% CI 1.81–6.03, p < 0.001).ConclusionThe incidence of PFNP increased in China after the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in patients with Hunter syndrome, indicating that COVID-19 infection can trigger and worsen PFNP

    Sufentanil for carboprost-induced adverse reactions during cesarean delivery under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia

    Objective: Carboprost plays an important role in managing refractory uterine atony and severe postpartum hemorrhage. However, it is associated with challenging adverse reactions. We aimed to evaluate the clinical effects of low-dose sufentanil on the prevention of adverse events associated with carboprost during cesarean delivery. Study Design: Patients were randomly divided into two groups: a placebo control group (group C, n = 15) that received an intravenous infusion of 1 mL of normal saline 2 min before carboprost and a sufentanil group (group S, n = 15) that received 5 µg of sufentanil. The primary outcome was the incidence of nausea and vomiting following carboprost administration. Results: The incidence of nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal discomfort was significantly lower in group S than in group C (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The prophylactic use of low-dose sufentanil reduces the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects caused by carboprost administration during cesarean section

    Fermentation Products of Paenibacillus bovis sp. nov. BD3526 Alleviates the Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in GK Rats

    Gut microbiota is closely related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The gut microbiota of patients with T2DM is significantly different from that of healthy subjects in terms of bacterial composition and diversity. Here, we used the fermentation products of Paenibacillus bovis sp. nov. BD3526 to study the disease progression of T2DM in Goto-kakisaki (GK) rats. We found that the symptoms in GK rats fed the fermentation products of BD3526 were significantly improved. The 16S rRNA sequencing showed that the fermentation products of BD3526 had strong effects on the gut microbiota by increasing the content of Akkermansia. In addition, the interaction of the genus in the gut of the BD3526 group also significantly changed. Additional cytokine detection revealed that the fermentation products of BD3526 can reduce the inflammatory factors in the intestinal mucus of GK rats and thereby inhibit the inflammatory response and ameliorate the symptoms of T2DM

    Study on Shear Velocity Profile Inversion Using an Improved High Frequency Constrained Algorithm

    The formation shear-wave (S-wave)’s velocity information around a borehole is of great importance in evaluating borehole stability, reflecting fluid invasion, and selecting perforation positions. Dipole acoustic logging is an effective method for determining a formation S-wave’s velocity radial profile around the borehole. Currently, the formation S-wave’s radial-profile inversion methods are mainly based on the impacts of radial velocity changes of formations outside the borehole on the dispersion characteristics of dipole waveforms, without considering the impacts of an acoustic tool on the dispersion curves in the inversion methods. Accordingly, the inversion accuracy is greatly impacted in practical data-processing applications. In this paper, a novel inversion algorithm, which introduces equivalent-tool theory into the shear-velocity radial profile constrained-inversion method, is proposed to obtain the S-wave’s slowness radial profile. Based on the equivalent-tool theory, the acoustic tool can be modeled using two parameters, radius and elastic modulus. The tool’s impact on the dipole waveform’s dispersion is eliminated first by using the equivalent-tool theory. Then, the corrected dispersion curve is used to carry out the constrained inversion processing. The results of this processing on the simulation data and the real logging data show the validity of the proposed algorithm
