Incorporating social objectives in evaluating sustainable fisheries harvest strategy
Fisheries management must take account of environmental sustainability, economic profitability, and social benefits generated by the public resources. The traditional approach of maximum economic yield (MEY), however, is yet to consider social objectives in deriving quantitative quotes. Current MEY evaluation framework would be appropriate if the economic rent was distributed back to the public. If public resources are privatized as corporations, the rent largely flows to the owners of large capital in the fishing industry. This is in stark contrast to the aims of benefiting the community as a whole. In this short paper, we promote a socially responsible framework in decision-making of fisheries management. This approach is beyond the fleet-based MEY approach, for it incorporates fleet profitability, chain profitability, employment, environmental concerns, and broad social benefits, in strict accordance with stock sustainability. Recognizing the needs of fishers, as well as the interests of chain sectors and the broader community, is a vital part of ensuring responsible fishery management and a viable future for Australian fisheries. The established framework will provide open view scenarios and enrich the MEY approaches in fisheries management

The impact of grandparenting on mental health among rural middle-aged and older adults in China: exploring the role of children’s support
ObjectivesIn the rural regions of China, characterized by a pronounced aging demographic and limited resources, a substantial proportion of middle-aged and older adults engage in grandparenting roles. Yet, the literature lacks consistent evidence regarding the effects of grandparenting on the mental health of this cohort. Accordingly, this study aimed to explore the impact of grandparenting on the mental health of rural middle-aged and older adults, as well as the underlying mechanisms.MethodsThis analysis encompassed 10,881 middle-aged and older adults, utilizing data from the 2018 Harmonized China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The mental health of participants was assessed using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression-10 (CESD-10) scale, while support from children was categorized into financial and emotional types. The study employed logistic and OLS regression models to identify the mediating role of child support and utilized the Karlson-Holm-Breen (KHB) method for decomposing this mediating effect.ResultsThe findings demonstrated that grandparenting had a significant negative impact on depression among rural middle-aged and older adults. Furthermore, children’s support played a vital role in mediating this relationship, accounting for approximately one-third of the overall influence. Moreover, the decomposition analysis revealed that both emotional and economic support from adult children equally contributed to the declination of depression among rural middle-aged and older adults.ConclusionGrandparenting significantly enhances mental well-being in rural middle-aged and older adults, with the support from adult children serving as a vital pathway for this positive impact. Both economic and emotional assistance from children hold equal importance in this dynamic. It underscores the necessity of fortifying the family support system to amplify the support provided by children, which in turn could significantly enhance the mental health of rural middle-aged and older adults
(Anthracen-9-yl)(piperidin-1-yl)methanone
The title compound, C20H19NO, is a substructure of CP-640186, a potent inhibitor of mammalian acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylases. In the crystal structure, the amide group forms a dihedral angle of 87.0 (1)° with the plane of the anthracene unit and the piperidine ring adopts a chair conformation. Molecules are arranged into layers parallel to (100) and adjacent anthracene units within layers form dihedral angles of 13.2 (1)°. C—H⋯O interactions from the piperidine rings to the C=O group of the amide are observed between layers
Research Progress on Reference Genes of Insect for Quantitative Real-time Reverse Transcription PCR (RT-qPCR)
Abstract Quantitative real-time reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) has become the most important method for the quantification of mRNA transcription levels owing to its, specificity, sensitivity, reproducibility, and efficiency. In order to avoid sample-to-sample and run-to-run variations particularly in RNA extraction, RNA quality and cDNA reverse transcription level ,etc. it is necessary to use housekeeping gene which stably expressing as reference gene. Ideally, the housekeeping gene should not be regulated or influenced by the experimental procedure or co-regulated with the target gene. Studies insect models have shown that the expression levels of commonly used reference genes can differ among different tissue, organ types or physiological conditions. However, improper selection of reference genes will result in inaccurate calculation results and consequently obscure actual biological differences among samples, even opposite conclusion. Therefore, reference genes which specific stably expression in each experimental system should be selected in different insects and different experiments. This review aims to provide research achievements of domestic and foreign scholars on insect reference genes, which provide great promise for the future
A preliminary analysis of the effect of the new rural cooperative medical scheme on inpatient care at a county hospital
BACKGROUND: China in 2009 committed to reach universal health coverage by promoting three forms of health insurance; NCMS for the rural population, UEBMI for formally employed urban residents and URBMI for other urban residents. NCMS has expanded to near universal coverage in rural China since launching in 2003. The objective of this study aimed to assess the effect of NCMS on inpatient care utilization from 2003 to 2012 at Longyou county hospital, Zhejiang province. METHODS: The research was conducted at Longyou county, Zhejiang province. All registered inpatient admissions from January 1, 2003, to June 30, 2012, were included in the study. The PLSQL Developer software was used to select the interesting variables in the hospital information database and saved in an Excel 2003 file. The interesting variables included the patients’ general information (name, gender, age, payment method), discharge diagnosis, length of hospital stay, and expenditure (total expenditure and out-of-pocket payment). Two common diseases (coronary arteriosclerotic disease and pneumonia) were selected as tracer conditions. RESULTS: 292,400 rural residents were enrolled in the Longyou county NCMS by 2011, 95.4% of the eligible population. A total of 145,744 inpatient admissions were registered from 1 January 2003 to 30 June 2012. The proportion of inpatients covered by NCMS increased from 30.3% in 2004 to 54.2% in 2012 while the proportion of inpatients covered by UEBMI increased from 7.7% in 2003 to 14.7% in 2012. The average expenditure for UEBMI insured inpatients was higher than the average for NCMS insured inpatients, although the gap was narrowing. The average length of hospital stay increased every year for all inpatients, but was higher for UEBMI inpatients than for NCMS insured inpatients. For both tracer conditions the results were similar to the above findings. CONCLUSIONS: NCMS has improved coverage height for its enrollees and resulted in increased cost of care per inpatient admission at the county hospital. However, wide differences persist between the two insurance systems in coverage height. Both systems are associated with increasing lengths of stay and rising cost per inpatient admission. We found that around 30% of inpatients were not covered by any of the two public health insurance systems, which calls for further studies
