Effects of Scratching Parameters on Fabrication of Polymer Nanostructures in Atomic Force Microscope Tapping Mode
AbstractThe nano scratching with an oscillating Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) tip in tapping mode is called as the dynamic ploughing. The tip is vibrated in a high frequency and scratches the surface which is similar to the conventional vibration-assistant machining process. In the present study, the dynamic ploughing technique is utilized to scratch PolymethylMethacrylate (PMMA) polymer surfaces forming nanostructures with a commercial AFM system and two kinds of cantilevers. Effects of scratching parameters of the dynamic ploughing including scratching velocity, driving amplitude, pitch and the cantilever's elastic constant on the machined results are studied in detail. Finally nano ring structures with different radius are achieved successfully.Video abstrac
An explorative study of interface support for image searching
In this paper we study interfaces for image retrieval systems. Current image retrieval interfaces are limited to providing query facilities and result presentation. The user can inspect the results and possibly provide feedback on their relevance for the current query. Our approach, in contrast, encourages the user to group and organise their search results and thus provide more fine-grained feedback for the system. It combines the search and management process, which - according to our hypothesis - helps the user to onceptualise their search tasks and to overcome the query formulation problem. An evaluation, involving young design-professionals and di®erent types of information seeking scenarios, shows that the proposed approach succeeds in encouraging the user to conceptualise their tasks and that it leads to increased user satisfaction. However, it could not be shown to increase performance. We identify the problems in the current setup, which when eliminated should lead to more effective searching overall
Monte Carlo Renormalization Group Analysis of Lattice Model in
We present a simple, sophisticated method to capture renormalization group
flow in Monte Carlo simulation, which provides important information of
critical phenomena. We applied the method to lattice model and
obtained renormalization flow diagram which well reproduces theoretically
predicted behavior of continuum model. We also show that the method
can be easily applied to much more complicated models, such as frustrated spin

Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first

Energy levels and far-infrared spectroscopy for two electrons in a semiconductor nanoring
The effects of electron-electron interaction of a two-electron nanoring on
the energy levels and far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopy have been investigated
based on a model calculation which is performed within the exactly numerical
diagonalization. It is found that the interaction changes the energy spectra
dramatically, and also shows significant influence on the FIR spectroscopy. The
crossings between the lowest spin-singlet and triplet states induced by the
coulomb interaction are clearly revealed. Our results are related to the
experiment recently carried out by A. Lorke et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2223

Vortex Dynamics and Defects in Simulated Flux Flow
We present the results of molecular dynamic simulations of a two-dimensional
vortex array driven by a uniform current through random pinning centers at zero
temperature. We identify two types of flow of the driven array near the
depinning threshold. For weak disorder the flux array contains few dislocation
and moves via correlated displacements of patches of vortices in a {\it
crinkle} motion. As the disorder strength increases, we observe a crossover to
a spatially inhomogeneous regime of {\it plastic} flow, with a very defective
vortex array and a channel-like structure of the flowing regions. The two
regimes are characterized by qualitatively different spatial distribution of
vortex velocities. In the crinkle regime the distribution of vortex velocities
near threshold has a single maximum that shifts to larger velocities as the
driving force is increased. In the plastic regime the distribution of vortex
velocities near threshold has a clear bimodal structure that persists upon
time-averaging the individual velocities. The bimodal structure of the velocity
distribution reflects the coexistence of pinned and flowing regions and is
proposed as a quantitative signature of plastic flow.Comment: 12 pages, 13 embedded PostScript figure

Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadron production in e^+e^- annihilation at \sqrt{s}= 3.773 and 3.650 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3 pb taken at GeV
and 6.5 pb taken at GeV with the BESII detector at the
BEPC collider, we have measured the observed cross sections for 12 exclusive
light hadron final states produced in annihilation at the two energy
points. We have also set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and
the branching fractions for decay to these final states at 90%
